...and then they'll just add it all back in when the Pirates go from "Pirating because of DRM." to "Pirating because I don't want to pay."

Awww... Close, Ubisoft, but no cigar. I've not played any of those games since the first out of principle.

Holy applesauce it looks like Ubisoft is getting the message after all.
I see no apology or removal of this DRM from all of the games that use it, I don't think they've got the message.

Supported Video Cards at Time of Release:
ATI RADEON X1950, HD 2000/3000/4000/5000 series
ATI HD 6000 series not initially supported? Well that sucks balls. Or are they somehow lumped in with 5000 as it was the same chip and what not?

Also, still requires a log in? Awesome. So when you're stuck in the middle of nowhere or if your internet dies and you wanna play, you can't log in and play your single player game. Super awesome.

It's not the complete removal of DRM, it's the relaxing of the DRM to a more reasonable degree. At least Ubisoft has done something about the DRM instead of not changing it or even making it worse.

A one-time log-in is fairly lenient if you think about it, just log in at home, and you're set.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood Finally Coming to PC, Without Online DRM

After many delays, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood is at long last getting a PC release and without that pesky online DRM crap from Ubisoft.
...
"The PC version of Assassin's Creed Brotherhood after an initial login, will be playable offline in single player mode," a representative from Ubisoft confirmed today.
Do you actually read what you are copy-pasting, Greg?

Wait... does this mean that you only log in once ever then you can play offline, or does it work like AC2 does now where you have to be online everytime you start the game up? The wording is not clear.

The thing with Steam is that the DRM is just an afterthought.
Really? Is that why using it is mandatory in order to play games that utilise Steam even when you purchase a retail copy?

(How can you not like the idea of an in-game web browser?)
I have Chrome for my web browsing needs, so I would much rather see games come without any form of DRM....including Steam.

On topic, this isn't the best case scenario, since the game still has DRM. Nevertheless, this is still a major improvement. Hopefully, Ubisoft will decide not to stop there (yeah, right....might as well wish for a chicken and a big mug of Coke) and will also decide to remove the DRM from Assassin's Creed 2 and other games as well.

Sounds like it still has a phone home login check every time you want to play it. So, an Ubisoft server being down will still keep you from playing. While marginally better than what they were doing, it's still not nearly good enough. It's primarily a single player game, it shouldn't have a need for an internet connection just to play it. A one time activation, a CD check, or a serial number, those are fine. Not wonderful, but acceptable. A regular phone home wasn't acceptable when EA proposed it for Mass Effect, it's not acceptable now.

[HEADING=1]UNCONFIRMED![/HEADING]

The post in question [http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/5251069024/m/8501077119?r=8361087119#8361087119] doesn't specify if it's a log-in-every-time deal (see: current DRM for AssCreed 2, still unacceptable in my eyes) or if it's genuinely a one-time-activation deal, or if it's anywhere in between. The fact that he failed to clarify [http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/5251069024/m/8501077119?r=9681087119#9681087119] means I'm treating this as unconfirmed rumour.

Hmm...

...alright, I'll definitely think about buying it! I usually wait for sales on Steam or at the local store, but I'll forgive Ubisoft for now. Assassin's Creed II was an ill-fated mistake, but if they're removing one of the sources of that historical moment of note, then that shows they're willing to change in a way that removes restrictions from the PC gamers, and instills a trustful bond between them. "We are removing DRM. We no longer want to stifle the honorable PC gamer in order to combat an enemy that defeating is virtually impossible. We shall remove DRM and fight pirates in less interfering ways!"

If that's what they're thinking, then it's $40 well spent in my opinion. Note I say $40. I'm forgiving them for a silly error in judgment, but blood must be repaid! OFF WITH ONE OF THEIR HANDS, AND LET THEM WALK FREE ONCE MORE.

Seriously though, this is rather nice to hear. I look forward to making Ezio jump off buildings and splat in the middle of huge crowds once more!

...assuming it's all true, of course.

Now how about getting rid of the DRM on Assassin's Creed 2 and The Settlers 7? I'd happily try both of those games, but I'm not going to buy anything that requires me to be connected to someone's random server the entire time.

A login every time I want to play? Because that's not going to fly. Even just one login would be a stretch.

What is so bad about Steamworks, Ubisoft?
