Sorry to force you to go to IGN, but: http://ap.ign.com/assassins-creed-unity/88134/news/assassins-creed-chronicles-trilogy-announced

It's pretty awesome, Assassin's Creed games in China, India, and Russia. Finally, no more boring Americas or Europe! Asides from, you know, the main installment for this year, AC Victory. Which to me, is the problem. You have two Asian protagonists, one of whom is a woman, which in AC is like finding a diamond wrapped in gold in your shit, and a Russian good guy, which is almost as rare as gold wrapped diamonds found in your shit. But you're going to use these settings and characters in a spin off 10 dollar side scroller Ubisoft? Really? I mean, the games do look great and fun, but it seems to me like this really proves that Ubisoft doesn't really want to stretch out of their comfort zone. I would rather play as the Chinese woman or Indian dude or the Russian sniper guy (yeah, they have guns now) in a full Assassin's Creed game than whatever British character they want us play this time in Victory.

I would definitely have to agree with this. I do still consider myself a fan of the main series, but to always be the a European man in a European setting is getting really boring. It's interesting that the game with the most interesting setting and protagonist from a diversity perspective is the first one (even if that also has heavy European influences with the crusades).

A Chinese woman, and an Indian man would be a very welcome change of pace, not to mention China and India as settings. It would give the series a sense of uniqueness it has lacked for quite some time.

Well, they gotta keep appearances up...

Obviously the main protagonist in AC: Victory will be English Ezio (much like how Arno is French Ezio... with an English accent), seeing a bit of diversity would be nice.

I think the best outcome for this is for Victory to be as bad as Unity, and those side games to be great and sell well. It would show that there is enough demand for an Asian character and perhaps put one in the main series.

That being said, I hope these three new characters aren't Russian Ezio, Indian Ezio and FemEzio...

Not really jazzed about it being a side scroller, but it could be fun.

I would like to point out that the Chinese assassin was in Assassin's Creed: Embers. She actually met Ezio and asked for help, so it's not "Female Ezio". Also, the Russian assassin is from one of the comics, and is also not Ezio. I believe he was briefly mentioned in Assassin's Creed III, but I don't really remember because that game sucked. The assassin from India is also from the comics, so I highly doubt they're gonna be "Ezio version 3.0" or whatever.

I'm interested in the settings that the games take place and they could be fun.

As for Victory, who knows? I don't know much about it yet to really have an opinion on it yet.

Ubisoft cynicism aside (valid cynicism I might add because Ubi are.. yeah, not good) I actually think this little trio looks really cool. Solid art direction, a condensed and simple movement and combat system and a focus on 3 quite interesting characters. I think it's particularly awesome that we're finally getting a game based on Nikolai Orelov from The Fall and The Chain, his historical time period is perfectly suited for the more political focus the series started to focus on from AC3.

I get the grumbling that Ubisoft are confining these characters to side games but I guess at least they're being made? Who knows, if there's enough demand for these it might go some way to proving the point that these kind of characters can exist in video games and people can enjoy playing as them.

Yay, let's pretend the european and american settings were all the same and not completely different in time periods, cultures, styles and locales. And also ignore all those games set in the Middle East. Nope, same shit all throughout. Victorian London will be the same as everything else too! No difference in anything but hats.

I jest, but as you can see, I'm a bit peeved when people start saying crap like that because it just isn't true. If you want an asian setting in the main games, just say so, don't try to validate it by making shit up.

Hell they're probably saving a Japanese(or some other east-asian) setting for the next big AC made by Ubi Montreal, the top 3 requested settings circa ACII were Revolutionary France, Victorian England, and any Japanese setting when ninjas were viable. They seem to be going through the most requested ones, what with Unity and Victory being made.

Also, all the protagonists in Chronicles are from the "extended universe"(bleh) of AC and are from comics or in the case of Shao Jun from a short movie. Seems more like a fanservice thing than anything else.

The series has 8 games in it, only 3 are in Europe. How is that always? And that's before you even get to the side games and shit.
Well, you know the series is getting samey when it's possible to interchange the characters of different installments and their fashion style would still fit in.

And Bergathor has a point. Of all the 14 AC games, only 3 have been in the Middle East. The rest have either been in Europe or the Americas, which still count as European settings, as they were European Colonies at the time.

Yeah, Caribbean pirates (dressed like, you know, pirates) wouldn't look out of place in the Bastille, not in the slightest. And those colonial americans would blend right in with the people having a stroll around the Pantheon (with only a 300 year difference in settings). Literally the only way you could come to that conclusion if you weren't looking at the games.

4 were in the Middle East actually (if you count all the handheld shit), though one of them is geographically at the precipice of Europe, culturally it's very much middle eastern. And there are only 12 games released up until now. (unless you want to count iOS and facebook games, I'd say even the handhelds were stretching it though.) And 4 of them are in Europe. And 4 them are in the americas. Whoops.

Also that last sentence is arbitrary bullshit, to the point where saying anything more than you are wrong is pointless.
The first, yes actually. They all look like ruffles, hats, and coats to me. The second, obviously not. If you want me to be specific, ACIII, ACIV, AC Liberation, AC Black Flag, and AC Unity. Hell, add in ACII, there are ruffles there too. Take everything literally if you want, I won't stop you.

I just re-checked the wiki. There are definitely 14 games, counting the mobiles and handhelds. You are right though, there are 4 games in the Middle East. My bad. But there are actually 6 games in Europe, and 4 in the Americas.

I stand by my "arbitrary bullshit". If you find it pointless to say anything, then I guess it is also pointless to reply.

Oh, this is a real thing. Somehow I thought it was an April Fool's thing, "Now there's even MORE Ass Creed games released! And they're sidescrollers!" I mean, come on.

Having said that, maybe they'll end up being an improvement over the tired formula. And not even give me motion sickness like Black Flag did when I tried to play it. Then again, it's pretty weak that they ended up relegating the more interesting settings to what sure look like minor spinoffs.
