It's going to stay in the present because that's where they have to be to actually do anything productive. You can't relive your past and expect to stop the sun from exploding (or whatever).
No matter where it goes it'll still have its head stuck in a looney bucket... That's what makes AC's story so awesome after all...

I'm hoping it will take place in the present, since at this point I'm sure Blandy Future Desmond has learned enough about assassination skills unless someone wants to hand him a sniper rifle.
Not looking forward to playing more of the game as Desmond.. which seems inevitable. I go along with it but I still think the series would have been better if they dropped the whole Animus and sci-fi framing device for it all.
Personally, I'd like to see something in Eastern Europe or in the Far East like Imperial China during the later Qing dynasty etc. They've built so much intrigue through the fully-realized recreations of historical time periods- so they would never drop that for a bland Present Day/2012 Borefest of a setting.

The game to-date will be revealed to be a past-lives experience of a future descendent of Desmond, in order to learn how he got to be such a badass. So the bulk of gameplay will be in the "present day" but it will be offset with sequences in the future.
Note: I haven't played Brotherhood, so I don't know if this does or doesn't fit with the plot details revealed there.

That is true. I think if it wasn't set in-and-around the present day and in the far flung future then it would be more exotic and exciting than now.Caligulove said:

I doubt we'll be going to Asia anytime soon, aren't the different assassins supposed to be Desmond's ancestors? And he's just about the whitest protagonists in history.
I suppose it could work if you had some white guy travel to China or whatever, but that seems borderline racist. Personally I'd like to see one that takes place in colonial America, that'd be pretty cool.

I love some of the theories on this, one was that in the next game you have to find Eve(?) and have a kid with her and then that kid will save the WORLD! as a foetus. Some people think its going to be set in France because of the thing the British guy says at the end. I reckon you'll just play as Desmond though.
