Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. Good or Bad?

So as some of you might know Ubisoft unveiled the next installment of the Assassin's Creed franchise and by god do I personally think it looks awesome. For those who don't know Black Flag will be set in roughly the same time period, but with you being a pirate. A pirate!!! That just sounds too cool. There will be a new character and will more that likely feature a lot more ship combat(which I think is great because that was the only part I enjoyed out of AC3's singleplayer). Now so me of you might be thinking that Ubisoft is starting to go the route of Call of Duty by making a new AC game each year. I hope it's not the case because as much as I like the AC games they do need to end sometime. Black Flag is being developed by a third party and Ubisoft says that they have been making this game for years. Now what does this game mean when compared to its predecessors. Specifically AC3 since it's in the same time period.

-New Character: No more boring bland Conner (maybe) and hopefully a new charismatic pirate.
-New location: The game will most likely take place in the Caribbean.
-No more Desmond: Desmond's story is done. He won't be in the new one. No more boring Desmond.
-Possible risk of low buildings: One of my more major gripes with AC3 was that the locations all looked the same and the building were too boring to ever want to climb.
-More Naval Combat: Naval combat was extremely fun in AC3 and if they can pull off boarding in Black Flag then I'm completely sold.
-Pirates!!!: Nuff said.

So there's my view on the new Assassin's Creed game titled Black Flag. What are your opinions about it?

It has potential to work. It sounds however that they are going to be relying entirely on the Naval battles they introduced in AC: III

Well it can't be much worse than 3...

If it does turn out to be true, I'd be quite happy to play the latest installment & see whether it's still a fun series. If the next one is anywhere near as boring as the last one I'm giving up on the franchise altogether.

I am geeking out at the thought of this. The seafaring portions of AC3 were by far my favorite parts of the game. I hope that it takes place largely at sea and allows you to pursue and plunder ships choosing to sink or board in an sandbox fashion. Have trade possible between colonial towns and even other country's holdings in the caribbean. The ability to purchase or steal different ships that vary in size and speed and armament. There is so much that could be done with this.

So the first 4 assassin's creed games are set in city locations with loads of buildings next to each other, and they are reasonably popular. The fifth is set in a forest location with less house jumping round and is less popular. Now it's set at sea. I don't go there much but I'm pretty sure there aren't many buildings there.
I don't think it's a good setting. They need somewhere with more buildings. There need to be more pirate games I agree, but AC is not a pirate game, it's an assassination game.

Pirates? Good.
Assassin's Creed? Bad.

I just want a Pirate game, thank you very much.
No more of this Desmond, Apple of Eden, Templar bullshit.

This is what I feel on the subject.

I want the Assassin's Creed III engine to be used for a pirate game, but not in the Assassin's Creed universe. It's not to say that the franchise can never shake things up, I personally liked ACIII because it was set in the woodlands of New England. But a game focused around sailing at sea and everything, with the heavy possibility of the main character being a swashbuckler? It's just not Assassin's Creed.

Personally, I was hoping that the next Assassin's Creed game would follow the Brotherhood and Revelations formula and be set during the French Revolution. It even seemed like they were setting it up with that conversation with the Marquis de Lafayette, in addition to the fact that after the American Revolution, dick all actually happened across the pond.

But I actually liked AC3, so what do I know?

As a fan of both Assassin's Creed and pirates, I must say that I'm stoked. We need something fresh. And lately, Ubisoft seems very eager to deliver freshness.

You see, to me Assassin's Creed is more than a game about free running and stabbing. Sure, you can say that hidden blades, free running and synch points are signature aspects of the series, but I see it more as a game about Assassins vs Templars. I wouldn't care if they made a western themed Assassin's Creed as long as it's good and the conflict between those two factions is there.

I'm pretty fuckin' hyped. AC 3 was a game I really really enjoyed, fuck what everyone else says, and the sailing mechanics, wunderbar. And I absolutely cannot express my joy at the thought of having an open world pirate game. The AC universe seems like a series that could definitely handle that, instead of the frontier we'll have a nice big ocean area to explore, with random events and plundering to be done. Having sailing be a big part of the game could also take us to more unique places, that's how people traveled long distances back in the day, and I'm sure the city exploration will be just as good as it has always been.

In short, I can't wait!

Absolutely cannot wait for this game. I also enjoyed the naval combat, though, I found it rather simple once my ship was upgraded about half-way. I'm interested to see if it will look more like Far Cry 3, with you just running through the jungles of the Caribbean?

While I LOVE Assassin's Creed to death, it just feels... I don't know, early, doesn't it?
Don't get me wrong, I don't find it as a bad thing, just unexpected, you know?

I lost interest for Assassin's Creed after Revelations and i'm not very likely to pick this up after skipping several of the games inbetween

More naval battles?
Yes Please!

(seriously the best bit about ACIII was the time spent on the Aquila)

There is but one response necessary to this news.

Well actually I could say a bit more, I was hoping for the Russian Revolution, as I had some cool ideas for what it could have, but this? This is just awesome, there just ain't enough pirate games these days. YAR HAR HA HAH HA!

With Master and Commander being one of my favorite movies I am more than happy to embrace a new naval game with AAA backing.

Surprised no AAA has tried to plunder (oh ha ha) the pirate market.

So, if they get rid of the Animus, how are they going to go about the historical inaccuracies and mechanical inconsistencies that were always handwaved as "abstractions of the Animus"?

Also... Assassins and pirates? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense... weren't pirates the 'rape and pillage' guys in boats? Seems a bit of a leap from the (albeit dumb) sneaky assassins who we're supposed to believe are the good guys.
Oh, it's simple. The Templars altered the history books, because the Assassins would never do anything bad, ever. So pirates were actually heroic freedom fighters against those eeeeeeevil merchants and civilians. And any slavery they might have indulged in was in the name of freedom for everyone.
