No, definitely not Masyaf. Masyaf is in the mountains of Syria (or at least this fictional version, in real life Masyaf is nothing like what it is in the game although it is still in Syria. The real assassin fortress was actually in Alamut which is in Iran), this is likely somewhere in Jordan.

OT: Very excited for this game, as usual it looks great. This series has yet to disappoint me so it's at the top of my list.
Well, doesn't mean he can't travel to Syria from Istanbul? Certainly a large part of that trailer implied him traveling great distances, across mountains and deserts? I say that becuase it definitely LOOKS like Masyaf from the first game, what with the court yard, and the tower with the twin Leap of Faith planks?

The trailer that OP posted is definitely Masyaf, but the gameplay video you posted was in Istanbul and that was what I was responding to. I got mixed up though thinking that you were implying that the gameplay footage was in Masyaf, so it's my bad. I thought it was Jordan though, because it looked a lot like it (I've been there).

Oh yeah, my wording was a bit confusing (sigh, E3 week), sorry bout that. Yeah the city in the gameplay vid is definitely Istanbul (can't wait to scale the minarets of the Hagia Sophia).

Just in case you haven't seen it yet:

OT: It's NOT just me who thought he looked NOTHING like Ezio Auditore? Thank god. Also, yeah what's up with that? Also, do you guys think that that's Masyaf?

You're knowledge amazes me

The attacks look recycled... again. The story just seemed really dumb to me after the angels or super-race people showed. However, since brotherhood had such a good multiplayer then I will buy this game if it has good multiplayer.

It's revelations ... meaning, this is probably how Ezio actually looks.
(as in, both Altair and Ezio looked a lot like Desmond for a reason - they were animus generated impressions through Desmond)

Heck, people complained before that statues of Altair don't look like Altair ...

It's highly unrealistic that a 53 year old man could be this agile and the fact that he actually managed to employ feats of agility like the ones in the trailer after sustaining an arrow wound to the shoulder proves how little faith Ubisoft had in the character to begin with. They obviously want to milk him for what its worth, extending his story as much as possible. Look, I enjoyed what you did with the first game. Visiting locations most games never even give a chance was a welcomed change. However, you're no longer even trying to make the world unique. AC2 addressed a lot of the problems AC1 had but as it stands, you're no longer attempting to refine the formula. You're milking it.
A 53 year old man with a lifetime of training and exercise is capable of much more than you seem to think, I can't think of any specific examples off the top of my head but they are out there being generally very impressive. How he fights and moves is unrealistic for any age, not sure it counts anymore now than it did originally.

Also from watching the trailer a few more times it actually looks more like the arrow is almost entirely stopped by his armour, it rocks him back about half a step but he doesn't seem to show real pain and there's no blood I can see either. Yes he might just be a badass but it's something to think about.

Do agree that it's getting a bit worn out and Ezio was never that interesting to start with but AC always adds enough to the story and gameplay that they're still fun.

to be fair on the "Ezio looks different" thing, this is the first cinematic that we actually see Ezio take his hood off, most of his head was hidden in the other 2...i am amazed how beautiful they made those scenes with the canyons and mountains thou.

i heard a couple extra things from E3 in case you guys don't know, Constantinople is suppose to be around the size of Rome, HOWEVER there are few if any open spaces this time, there will be a lot of dense building placement and such. the city is also on a slope i believe which gives the excuse for zip-lines which in turn gives me the excuse to go WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE when i play the game =p

also its hard to tell from the gameplay but one o Ezio's blades will be a hook blade which explain the new fight moves. its suppose to give you a running speed bonus and what you use to travel zip-lines.

the game looks good an i understand and agree with the Ezio milking despite how much i like the character. although i am letting it go and giving Ubisoft the benefit of the doubt since they are selling this as the conclusion to Ezio's story.

edit:

your really going to bring up the lack of "realism" in a franchise that has a working Devinci flying machine, one with a CANNON on it later on, and the super intelligent god/alien/previous dominant species guys that created us and have magic pieces of Eden? come on dude lol.

it is Masyaf, quote from gameinformer:
"?He goes back to Masyaf in search of answers,? says creative director Alexandre Amancio. ?He wants to find the library there to learn more about the Order. He follows the footsteps of Altair to Masyaf. What begins as a pilgrimage turns into a race against time.?

I can think of one example. Ever heard of Jack LaLanne?
This man lived into his mid-nineties and he was a lifetime exerciser and bodybuilder.
He did 2-hour workouts every day. He even did his workout routine the day before he died (he was 97 and had PNEUMONIA).

So yeah, it's entirely possible that some 53 year old dude can still murder those nasty templars with ease.

Although I've only ever played the first Assassin's Creed game, I gotta admit, that trailer was bloody brilliant. Perfect music, amazing visuals, good pacing, excellent choreography on that fight, and the mystical element with Altair was a nice touch as well.

Might have to finally give the second game a try in anticipation of this one. I've heard good things, just never got around to playing em myself.

I'll also admit I'm a sucker for the Badass Grandpa trope. I dunno why, but they're almost always my favourites.

i've historically been a massive throbbing assassin's creed fan. and i won't lie, i do want this game. but i can feel my entheusiasm slowly draining.
Because it's adding more features than Brotherhood, a greater shift in location, more interesting story, more polish, and answering some of the most important questions about the mysteries of the series?

Wow, that takes SKILL to be less excited.

Looking over all the AC: Revelations posts, I feel like people on The Escapist just listen to Yahtzee and don't actually research games.

The information about all the improvements Revelations is bringing has been on the internet for 2 months.

And sure, you can say that stuff sounds better on paper, but Revelations sounds more improved on paper than Brotherhood did. Meaning that it will at least be better than brotherhood was coming from AC2.

I currently have this song:

playing in an endless loop on my ipod. You tell me if I'm exited for this game.

SIDE NOTE: By TOTAL coincidence, when I looked up this song on youtube, it started playing EXACTLY one verse behind where my ipod was. Seriously, both were singing in perfect unison, just one verse apart. Anyway...This song kicks ass. Surprisingly, so does the video.

Incidentally:

I'm very excited. And I am glad to see Altair again... I sure have missed him.

The only think that irks me is the silly... flamethrower cannon? What the heck? I'm pretty sure they didn't have those in that time period, and I'm pretty sure they never did. Am I the only one that noticed that it was also made out of wood, at least the majority of it? Yes, it's really cool, but it doesn't make any sense.
Actually, the Byzantine Empire did have a napalm like compound that they used hoses to shoot other ships with in naval battles.Linky [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_fire]

OT: Of course I'm excited, I love this series so much. Can't wait for November.

ugh...i try and like these games, but they dont need desmond, they dont need to be this complicated and perplexing, and it doesnt need to be so boring. it will be good if it just had a centuries year old gang of assassins fighting a rival group in a global turf war while one guy acts like a total pimp....oh wait...GTA......yeah it would be fine as a GTA clone.

i dont hate the game, but it REALLY tries it hardest to make me annoyed by it, i was never able to finish a single game.

I understand Ezio is a popular character and I understand Ubisoft never expected him to become the icon that he is today but by this point they're giving us to much time with him. They're not innovating at all and they're reusing the same mechanics they used in AC2 with very minimal changes. The Assassins Creed series, at least to me, was about innovation. As it stands, Ubisoft is not innovating, it's rehashing the same tired old shit.

I'm not saying this game will be bad but once you look at it from a different perspective you're just playing Assassins Creed 2 except now you get to visit a reskinned version of Rome. You also have to pay 60 dollars to do so.

It seems Ubisoft has run out of ideas on how to innovate with the series so they're just stalling now.
I completely agree. The new bomb making mechanic was featured in AC2 and the zipline ability was extremely prevalent in Brotherhood. Not to mention the entirely new gameplay mechanic with Desmond that was barely established at the end of Brotherhood is completely non innovative. Oh and of course the Assassin Den that was featured in Brotherhood that you have to repeatedly defend and/or take from Templars is such obvious milking of a franchise it's disgusting. That and all the plot holes that were filled in by Brotherhood such as who Subject 16 is, what happened to Sean and Rebecca, or what happened to Altair after he killed his original mentor. That and how Constantinople is such an obvious reskinning of Rome since it has Jewish, Gypsy, Ottoman, and Byzantine influence is just lazy on the part of Ubisoft.
