Assassin's Creed was the hype at my high school the day it was released. It was like the Orange Box had just been given a hard kick in the butt. I on the other hand was not impressed and therefore refused to buy the game. Nobody seemed to notice as I sat at lunch listening to their conversations about who was better: Altair or Mr. Freeman? I smirked at the thought of anybody being a better character than Gordan. But, by the middle of the year, as people still talked about the mysterious game and I got curious. So, I got my mum to buy me the game, and I realized I loved it - at the beginning. The game showed a new challenge. The assassins weren't "quests" they were goals. You could choose to chug forward to the assassinations, or you could kill random people - resulting in a high speed chase. The soldiers blocking off exits and climbing up buildings! When I realized that all the chases were about the same, I decide to move forward in the storyline. After being given a task, that I thought would surly be for thirty minutes, to "kill 9 men". I was sure that would suceed and come back for more, but instead I was given the task that drags out the whole entire game. The assassination took more time to plan than to actually do and the people talked for HOURS after being stabbed. This annoyed me. To the point that I could not finish the game! The graphics were the true pride of this game. As is with Oblivion. The game, not nearly as good as others stated, was jugded by it's apperance. The horses, though, very realistic galloped at a slow pace, making it difficult to get from place to place. The game, however, took care of this by adding in the feature of fast traveling after the acomplishment of the first assassination. The people looked as if the had been copied and pasted everywhere and Altair had an American accent - throwing off the reality of the game. The combat seemed somewhat advanced - though being hit, full force intended, with a sword was less effective than beening sliced with a hidden blade. The problems made the game unbearable. In the beginning, the game sucked me in, but the constant talking and the long planning periods pushed me out.

Overall game: C+

You brought up a few decent points, and used proper grammar, so I'll give you props for that. You just didn't have give enough detail about anything in the game. How were the graphics? What about the sound? You vaguely brought up the story and gameplay, but didn't go in depth nearly as much as you needed to. From this review I would have no idea what to expect from the game.

the weird part about the game was that the combat system was actually effective, meaning that there was no real penalty for blowing a stealth kill. i was more than capable of dispatching entire military encampments just fighting out in the open... the fighting became so easy that i had to force myself to fight only using the wrist blade... since the timing is more difficult to master and the kill animations are so much better.

the AI also seemed awkwardly nimble, with their climbing exploits druing a chase appearing more like glitches than actual well animating climbing. i beat the game and sold it since the bonus mission of getting the flags was impossible without the strategy guide. and i don't pay money to complete a checklist.

Honestly man, or should i say boy... The fact that your mom bought the game for you tells me a few things, you are young, and two since you are young therefore more than likely you have ADD and cannot concentrate on a single story or event or thought for too long. The story was superb and the presentation of the story was top notch. Graphics were amazing, and the battle system was entertaining. However the game does get repetitive and tedious but the storytelling more than made up for its faults. Also at the end of assassinations he does not run a knife along their neck but a feather. Enjoy the story, its top notch.

Overall the game: A-

So... basically you are calling him a stupid ADHD kid because he disagrees with you? Go back under the bridge, troll. You aren't welcome here.

His experiences matched up with my own for the most part, and the only problem I had with the review is the ever present Wall o' Text you see everywhere on the internet (seriously, paragraphs are your friend). Its well reasoned with no glaring spelling or punctuation errors. This is a solid first effort.

this kid could be 12-13, if we all acted like this every time a young person writes a review where would the next generation of journalists come from? Everyone has to start somwhere, and you cant expect people to dazzle from a young age. Its a brief review - yes, and could do with some paragraphing, but its not a rant, it tries to make point, therefor it should be applauded and not condemned.

:edit: beat me to it neep reep ;O

Ummm no. The battle system was tedious, it didn't GET repetitive it already was. The story certainly wasn't superb, it was an unholy marriage of Dan Brown and psuedoscientific babble, and amazing graphics does not = good game.

I will grant you that the story was well presented, and were it not for the aforementioned tedious and repetitive battle system and the part you declined to mention; the fuck-off long side quests with about 3 variables, then i'd have enjoyed the game and recommended it. As it is, I would agree with his opinion on the game, other than the score since I don't believe in them.

Agree with you 100% mate. I really wanted to like this game but it just wasn't all that likeable. And I really can't believe this guy seriously defends the combat. It's a one button affair you just press that button to whack someone with your sword and then do the same again. And once you learn the counter attack you can take on a whole city of guards without taking any damage! And who's idea was it to have you being someone's ancestor through a memory reading machine? I booted up this game expecting to take control of a bad-ass assassin and I find myself as some wimpy bartender! Of the £40 I spent on this game I got £15 back. In hindsight it was a good trade.

Even more, the knife Altair used seemed flimsy as he swiped it across his victims neck. This annoyed me.
No the thing he swiped across the victems neck was an eagle feather. That is why you need permission from the bureau leader. After he gave you perrmission you took something off of the counter. This was the eagle feather. And it was also the feather that he would show the Raffik (bureau leader) upon his return to the bureau.

If the hidden blade were to bend that much I doubt he could jump into the air and drive it into a person's neck.

(no offence intended)

Edit:
I enjoyed the combat though I'm not trying to defend it.
But I just thought it was so easy it was fun. I could switch the weapon in the middle of the fight and enjoy the new counter kills I haven't seen in a while. And you could also use combo kills when things were getting boring.

P.S. If you were an Assassin how would you fight. COUNTER KILLS. That way you wouldn't get much damage.

P.P.S. You can be a Badass Assassin if you want to.

Even though this was not directed at me I have a reason you should not be biased.

I am, in fact, fifteen. But I've had a job from age fourteen and buy my own games.
And though I can never pay attention at school (still get A's and B's though) I can probably play a game longer than you without having to stop (I've been a gamer as long as I can remember).

Assassins Creed is an alright game. It has some fun bits, such as the freedom aspect where you can run across the city and make it your playground, but it also has some pretty down bits. For one thing, theres no replay value. Once you've completed the final memory, thats pretty much it. Theres nothing more to do. The combat was eh. The counter kills were handy in a pinch but made most fights a breeze. The only time combat really felt challenging were when you were being swarmed by large numbers of foes.

The assassinations were fun up until you actually sunk the blade in and then things went weird. You were inevitably stabbing your foe in a pretty crowded place but despite this you have five minutes of un-interrupted dialogue. No-one comes at you, no-one tries to pull you off your target or attack you.. This just doesn't make sense to me. Similarly, it didn't make sense to me that a highly trained killer who was capable of great athletic feats should be somehow allergic to water and unable to swim. Admittedly water wasn't commonplace in the game but if you jumped in the river, or the ocean, you apparently melted or something.

Mabey it was all the knives and swords he had.
But somebody who can where that and run up walls and jump huge gaps through the air should be able to swim with it.

P.S. You can win the last battle within five seconds if you didn't know.
Instead of attacking him and letting him teleport all over the place; just select hidden blade, when the battle starts grab him, throw him to the ground, and assassinate him.

Master: MWAHAHAHAHA- *gets thrown to the ground*
Altiar: *stabs the Master*
Master: The student is not supposed to defeat the master.
Altiar: It took five seconds. I hardly call you a "master".

I DID like the game (I gave it a C, didn't I?) and I DON'T have ADD. I am just a game critic...well, I am practicing to be one. The point of being a critic is to point the things you did and didn't like about the game! What was I supposed to say? "Sure, I like the game! It was great!" That is why Escapist Magazine up this thread up here; so people could say what they think.

I would also like to bring up the fact that my age was pulled up into this. Yes, I am a 14 year-old girl. Why does that matter? My opinion counts too. Soon, I too will be choosing the President and driving throught the streets of America. I am a responsible person who pays my cellular phone bill. I have a job at a coffee house and I have straight A's.

I would also like to shoutout to all of you fanboys: TAKE A BREAK! Not everybody is going to agree with you. So stop attacking every review you don't agree with.

Sorry about the feather thing. I could not make out the picture on the screen and I assumed.

Good point.
To quote Yahtzee (sort of, can't remember all the words)

"If you personaly like a game you shouldn't let all of that get to you."

It'll be interesting to read your next review, Scotti13. Just elaborate on everything you mentioned, and you'll be fine. Shoot for around 1,000 words for your next review.
