Today I received the VGA cable I ordered so that I could connect my PC to my TV, which would allow me to watch movies, videos, etc. from the comfort of my bed.

However, there have been some problems: when the TV first auto-adjusted after I plugged in the VGA cable and selected the PC input setting, the image was moved to the top-right corner of the screen, I auto-adjusted again, and it seemed fine.

However, later on, the TV auto-adjusted and a black bar on the left hand side was present.

I turned the TV off and on again, yet it was still there once the TV finished auto-adjusting, suffice to say, the bar is annoying as hell, I managed to adjust the screen settings(I adjusted the horizontal-something slider to 80, which moved the image to the left) so that there were two black bars on either side of the screen, so it looked less annoying.

(TL;DR, sort of) However, the TV (some time later) switched back to the TV input setting, when I switched it back, the black bar was there again, and I had to adjust the settings again to get rid of it.

That last bit keeps on happening and it is incredibly annoying, so I am interested if there is a solution to this problem. I have tried; turning both the TV and the PC off and on again, plugging and unplugging the VGA cable in both states, with tightened and untightened VGA screws, and nothing has changed.

The TV is Technosonic(I have no idea as to what model, we bought it a long time ago) and it has a resolution of(according to windows) 1440x900.

The VGA cable is gold-plated, male to male.

If your TV doesn't remember your screen size and position settings then afaik there isn't really any possible solution other than trying different resolutions that the TV might properly adjust to or using a HDMI/DVI cable instead if both the TV and computer have the appropriate port.

I usually just set my tv as my secondary monitor on my computer, and choose duplicate displays. takes only a few mouse clicks, and saves me the trouble of dealing with setup menus on the tv.

Can you reset your tv settings to default?

Also, a friend of mine decided that 22" was for suckers, and hooked his 42" screen up as his primary monitor.
Now it had huge dark spots covering 1/4 of his screen, making it seem like a shadow on the screen.
I don't know excactly why it happened, but he told me his tv wasn't build for prolounged use as a gameing monitor or something.
Not really related, just thought i'd throw it out there and maybe someone can elaborate, and tell you how to avoid that, if it's a risc.
