Parents - "You're training my children to be terrorists!"
Patriots - "This game supports terrorism!"
Politicians - "We won't support people supporting terrorists!"

This game, as interesting an idea as it is, would be razed to the ground under a clusterfuck of do-gooder objections. It couldn't work.

That said, I'm near certain it's been done before in different guises.

I think my objection with a game like that would have to be that with uprising's in general there's a lot of cruelty. By and large, coup's are not bloodless. You can't make a game about a coup and supporting this random army without adding the good oul grit and realism we all know and love. If you did make a game omitting those crimes, you're bordering on propaganda.
But you DID SEE the Koreans kill a childs parents in front of his eyes, while he's about 5 years old. Then he runs to the corpses. Who knows what they'll do with the child?
homefront.
.
It has been done.
It can be pulled off with both sides. You start by seeing the atrocities being done to your people, then you join a resistance. In the midway point you capture a fewof the enemy soldiers, and you begin to interrogate.
Then the war crimes roll in.
You're confused - who's the bad guy here? They're trying to impose peace and return it to status quo, even if the place is conquered, while the resistance only causes needless deaths of civilians and soldiers alike.
Then at the end you have a choice to side with either in one big mission, or say 'fuck off' and leave.

Wouldn't be a fun game.

You sit there...planting IEDs...then suddenly a huge explosion and you turn into pink mist.

"What was that!?" you cry. Then the game tells you that a Hellfire missile fired from a Predator/ Reaper drone from a few miles away got you.

The closest thing you're going to get to asymmetrical warfare in an FPS game that I've seen is the resistance movement in Operation Flashpoint: Resistance.
I love Operation Flashpoint: Grand Theft BMP.

You're taking on the Soviets rather than the Americans, but the principle still holds. It's unfortunate that more games like this haven't been tried, but for what it's worth, at least it was tried once.
Yes well, part of that could be because the Russians don't put you on a terrorist watchlist for so much as making a mod where you blow them up as has happened to a few people who've made 'pro-terrorist' game mods.

How about another alternative:

A game set during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan during the Cold War. No Americans and their military supremacy, just the Russians and Afghans. If you reject the stereotypes of both sides, you can craft quite an interesting storyline out of the conflict, setting and time period.

Good idea, but there isn't much of a struggle more than convoys getting stuck in shit mountain roads or guerilla fighters using american missile launchers against flying helicopters.
Not much of a frontal conflict.
It CAN work.

Too much controversy... Unfortunately.

One thing im really itching for is a WW2 shooter.... Where you play on the side of the nazis. Im not saying I want a level where you gas jews and im not saying I want one because I think Hitler is the best guy ever or whatever, but various movies have shown just how good this stuff can be. Its hard to explain really, but anyone whos watched Das Boot should kind of know what im talking about. If you havent watched it yet, I suggest you go get the directors cut now.

Anyhow, like I said, Fox and just almost everyone would jump on it straight away and smother it.
Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad might have you covered, there's two single player campaigns, one where you play Nazis advancing towards, yes, Stalingrad, and another where you play the defending Soviets. Granted, I have no idea if this campaign will be very story driven as the developers are mostly aiming for a stupidly realistic WW2 experience, but it's a start.

And then there's the 50+ player multiplayer, heh.

But bombing brown people is the only thing the U.S. is still good at.

anywyay, dying to "free" your country from the evil americans is completely fucking pointless when you're really just installing another Islamic dictatorship. And that's goddamn depressing.

Death the Kid does not approve of your thread.

On topic, don't expect anything new from COD for at least 2 years. For the moment, what they do sells. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
