At some level, you must understand that this is wrong.

Do you ever hear someone express views that you think that at some level they should understand don't make any sense? Like when my grandmother didn't agree with me that Michael Jackson had been framed for pederasty crimes by people who wanted to get a big bunch of dollars from him, because to wuote her, "Do you really think people would do that kind of thing for money?" Leaving aside the issue of whether Michael was guilty or not, at some level she must have known that people will lie for money.

So... what have you heard people say or believe or think that at some level they must have known was untrue?

Racists, homophobes, and other discriminators. How, in this day and age, does someone hold such views? There is no argument here, no debate. Skin colour means jack shit, and who someone wants to fuck is their business. Simple as.

Pretty much everything most politicians and creationists say. Also pretty much anyone who has wet dreams about the glory days of colonialism and wants to bring it back...there are still a few people out there who think this, which I find surprising.

Erm... they are, in terms of things like life expectancy and science etc. What do you mean exactly?
Also, homsexuals aren't seen as freaks as often, and black people are regarded as human beings. Not to mention that there are more good books and movies to see and read than ever.

Well, of COURSE. That little thing you're talking about is common sense and you'd be surprised how many people really don't have it.

One anticipates a strong overlap between this and whatever the person in question happens to think.

This. It's just people stating their views.

Well, you have yourself an argument good sir.

Skin colour does mean a whole lot, since it is important in diagnostics.
If someone comes into your ER, looking like a boiled lobster who just rolled around in lye, you know, just from seeing the colour of whomever's skin, that there is a medical problem.
Same goes for someone looking like a smurf, which points towards silver poisoning.

After getting this of my chest:
Skin colour really shouldn't matter if medicine isn't involved.

The problem is, some people really believe what they're saying.
Take the whole Mayan calendar thing, or the Nibiru bullshit.
I have no doubt that some people are just trolling other smarter people using them, but some truly feel that the world will end in a matter of weeks.

I love how the person with the avatar of an animated rainbow coloured manatee is debating the medical importance of skin colour.
It's strangely hypnotising too, by the way.

I wonder about people who say they're certain that their religious views are right, especially the more intricate they get. I mean, I can respect people's beliefs, so long as they accept that they can be wrong because, let's face it, they probably are.

There's a difference between views you understand others feeling different about and views you honestly don't understand others feeling different about.

I personally think Morrowind is the best Elder Scrolls game, but I definitely understand how someone else could believe otherwise.

Even on more serious matters. I personally believe the extremely rich should be taxed more heavily, but I understand how one might disagree with that.

But there's a very small number of things of which I simply don't understand how anyone could possibly rationally believe them, such as the Bible being absolute literal truth. I don't understand how someone could rationally look at the world and the Bible, think logically about it and come to the conclusion that this book is the exact literal truth. I consider it an irrational belief.

Most views I understand how someone might believe them to be right, I often disagree but I do understand.
Some views I don't understand how someone can possibly believe them to be right, I can't think of any rational argument leading to that conclusion.

It's not just people stating their views, it's people stating the views they consider irrational. Which I think is pretty interesting to look at.

"Piracy is theft." is always worth a good chuckle. Because at some level I expect the person to be smart enough to differentiate between personal copyright infringement (Civil), professional copyright infringement (Crime), and theft (Crime).
This is why this thread will not end well (not your opinion specifically FelixG but because you're going to get people commenting on "touchy" subjects that others will not agree with). I guarantee that a group of people will drown out the original intent on this thread to argue about a hot-button topic by page 2.

For example: I have to believe that people who pirate KNOW that they are doing something wrong but don't care because their self-gain is more important than the wrongness that they are doing. I believe that piracy is theft but people call it "copyright infringement" because that makes it better somehow in their mind.

See! Pandemonium already! Just wait until someone waltz in with a "All religion is followed by sheeples" comment :)

EDIT: Got to page 2 before someone tried to argue against my opinion, that might be a new record! Granted though, my opinion isn't what this thread is about so if person who quoted me is wondering why I'm not arguing back, that's why...

poor people have only themselves to blame for being poor and rich people are rich because they are just smarter/more dedicated/whatever and thus should not have to part with their absurd wealth.
in a time where we have families that can afford to have a whole generation to be just trust fund idiots and still not go broke while good people starve because banks gamble with their food this makes me want to punch people

And you guys win the thread. Those would be my views, but ninja'd as usual...

OT- People getting angry at other people just because other people have different tastes. Er, hello? Diversity is one of the best things that's on this planet...

The entire debate about how gaming should remain a closed off "nerd" thing, to only appeal to the very nichest of niches. Which sometimes (as in this past week) extends to include the sexism debate too, because by Jove, we can't go having cooties get all over our precious toys. And how we apparently need to crucify people who are 'pretending' to like the same hobby we like, because they're not 'real' gamers as if that's actually a thing that can be quantified.

Or the people who believe that because they could 'suck it up' and 'get through it', that means bullying isn't a problem and nothing should be done about it except for making the kids being bullied have thicker skin. Because that'll solve the issue.

Oh, oh, how about all of the people who essentially say "Good riddance" whenever a thread about suicide pops up? Or "This happens all the time, why should I care?"

Just pray that someone doesn't mention abortion, we'd be dealing with the fallout for days.

Wait....I just said "abortion"...OH SHI-

OT: While I get what you're saying OP, the fact is that lots of people who say/think stupid/weird/misinformed things generally believe what they're saying/thinking
