Left 4 Dead, when I finally survived the No Mercy campaign, seeing the horde swarming over my fallen mate as the chopper took of was a very bittersweet moment.

In Kingdom Hearts 2, I fell in love with it when Sora and Kairi reunited in The World That Never Was. A hug. That was all it took for me to become the hopeless romantic I've become today.
Ha. Oh, you must be talking about when Sora reunited with Riku and fell sobbing at his feet while totally ignoring Kairi.

OT, It's usually how well the final boss battle is done that seals the deal for me. Is this last, most desperate feat the culmination of all I've struggled for? The atmosphere of the last colossus in SotC--darkness, lightning, rain, all while the main character goes almost robotically through the motions of this ritual that's turning him into a devil--really sunk its teeth into me before the smacktacular ending cutscene.

Also with Odin Sphere, one of my favorite games--the fact that you have the ability to fuck up the ending by not confronting the end bosses with the correct character, and the fact that the dialogue is different and tailored to each possibility, was so awesome, totally immersive. Fantastic story. While the maps could be a bit dull sometimes, the boss fights were some of the most colorful and tricksy I recall in a JRPG. Definitely manage your potions...

Maybe I just like to struggle through games in general, because any more that I could add to this list (Digital Devil Saga, Ninja Gaiden for the Xbox) are always ones in which I storm away from the controller cursing after a couple of tries. I play them on Hard, though, so I guess I do it to myself...

Mass Effect 2, the second the title screen popped up after the epic opening. I had to change my pants afterword.

Halo 2, when Master Chief "brings the Covenant back their bomb"

Katamari Damacy-When the King of the freaking Universe basically goes on a bender, breaks the sky, and tell you(the Prince) "Oh by the way, you are going to have to clean all this shitte up. Why? Cause I said so". I hadn't even seen any gameplay yet and I was in love.

Okami-Honestly,I was in awe the moment I turned it on. I fell in love at first sight, and kept falling deeper the more I played.

Kingdom Hearts II- It was a done deal after the epic 1000 enemy vs just you battle. I was so friggin pumped at that, I even forgave KH2 for its water level.

Monster Hunter partly on my first hunt I was so involved with everything around me I was even like "Wow its a big ol' dinosaur" etc, and what really did it for me was the real hunts with the Dragons. I never felt so excited in a game where I had to think of a way how to hurt it using some traps and bombs etc, and the sense of accomplishment you get when you win and you carve it for materials.

Syphon Filter. When I realized no game I'd ever played had topped it.

Halo: CE: on the Beach assault on the Silent Cartographer.

Mass Effect: on the first time I was on the Citadel and went in depth with the characters.

Crackdown/Prototype/Saints Row: Just jumping around in the air and stealing crap...

When I first ventured into the underground areas of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. I just found that so amazing and atmospheric. Or for my other fav, Half life 2, it was just the story developing around them, there was no one defining moment in HL2, the whole game was amazing.

Chamber 9 is what made me love Portal;

"The Enrichment Center regrets to inform you that this next test is impossible. Make no attempt to solve it."
"The Enrichment Center apologizes for this clearly broken test chamber."
"Once again, the Enrichment Center offers it's most sincere apologies on the occasion of this unsolvable test environment."
"Frankly, this chamber was a mistake. If we were you, we would quit now."
"No one will blame you for giving up. In fact, quitting at this point is a perfectly reasonable response."
"Quit now and cake will be served immediately."

When you solve the puzzle;

"Fantastic. You remained resolute and resourceful in an atmosphere of extreme pessimism."

I guess the closest thing I have to a favorite game is Chrono Trigger. I was certainly loving it for the first couple of hours, but once the actual story kicked in I refused to put the controller down.

I really don't have a favorite game, but I have logged several hundred hours into Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced. I used to play that ALL the time, and I do believe I'd still been playing it when A2 came out. The games was just so amazing, and was probably the closest thing to an addiction I've had, excluding WoW.
