At what point in his career did Peter Molyneux become that guy?

You know what I mean. That guy who spouts hyperbolic nonsense with increasing regularity. Also, how do I get that sort of gig?

Probably when people started buying his games. Also, join a reality tv show. That seems to be their main goal.

Either when he said Black and White would change the gaming paradim forever due to it's good and evil shtick or when he said Fable ( first game ) would be a huge expansive world where every little decsion like bending a blade of grass would change the world around you, what we got was a game where it made flinging villagers fun and one where killing vilages in the 'vast land' was fun.

I think he has always done it. the difference is he became very successful at one point and got control of EA, then decided that was too hands off and started over with a new company, not realizing he no longer had the resources to make fable the way he envisioned he went to his backup plan, selling ideas up.

Well, his aims have always been high (and pretty much the same, incidentally), but something (lack of money, manpower, skill) has held him back after he has spouted that it was great, when people started playing his games.

I guess it is since he stopped doing practical day to day game development things or at least after Dungeon Keeper which was his last non-controversial game. The game industry is a funny thing, from the outside it is hard to see who is actually contributing to making games good and who is just good at making outrageous quotes for the press. With Molyneux, at least we know that he has made some genre defining games in very small teams so he is the real deal.
