Highlander should have ended after the first film.

Same goes for Alien to a lesser extent and Terminator.
I agree with Highlander, not sure about Alien, but Terminator 2 I actually think is better than Terminator 1.

I don't know, I thought Aliens was pretty good. -snip-

As for Highlander, I'm absolutely with you there. And Terminator really could have ended on the first or second, I liked both.
Aliens was a good movie, as was Terminator 2. But they could have been movies in their own franchise, Aliens especially while good on it's own weakened the first movie and would have done fine without it.

The films after those in both series were utterly worthless though.

That's a good point, Aliens certainly had a different feel to it than Alien did. More of a science fiction military horror feel than the simple "Oh god, we're trapped on a space ship with an alien and it's killing everyone, what the hell do we do?" sort of feel that the first one portrayed so well.

When it loses all artistic merit and just rehashes old ideas, or just pulls new ones out of nowhere.
Bleach has gotten so ridiculous at this point that I've stopped paying attention to it altogether.

Even though I am a huge fan of Stargate, I think SG1 should have ended before the Ori story arc in seasons 9 and 10. There are way to many similarities between them and the goa'uld.

But in general when the series starts repeating the same story/motions and is living off of fanboys and the rose colored glasses.

I'm half and half on my own issue. Personally I think The Wire should have stopped after series 4, though I will admit that series 5 is good and has some of the best moments on the show. The problem is that it seemed to abandon the realism of the show with the whole serial killer twist, however saying that i do think there was no way the show could have gone any way other than 5 series for the other storylines.

Any anime adaption of a Shonen manga. They all go on entirely too long, and most are annoying to begin with anyway.

The Matrix should have been a stand-alone movie, as it is the first movie is exceptional; the second is crap, and the third is crap-on-a-stick. Not trolling, just personal opinion.
Bioshock probably didn't need a rapture-based sequel; Most franchise games need to develop each release properly, instead of a bi-annual money-tree shakedown - I'm looking at you, Activision.
Why is there a sequel to Dead To Rights, and not Kill.switch (both Namco Hometek) where the former is just *shit*, and the latter, pre-Gears of War, nailed the cover fire system? Yeah, it was after Project:Winback, but P:W's controls were clunky, to say the least.
I want sequels and updates to GOOD games, not just over marketed shite that sold well for a week before everyone realised it was Satan's fermented scrotal sweat pressed into a disc.

When the original creator(s) drop out.

This. It either means they've told all the story they have to tell, or they just don't want to work on it anymore. And when the person who made it doesn't want any more to do with it, it's never a good sign... there are exceptions, but they are few and far between.

Scrubs should have ended after season 8 season 9 was a complete joke and rip off.

Same goes for that 70s show the moment Ashton Kutcher and Topher Grace left it became ridonkulous and an insult to the original show.
I think Scrubs should've ended after season four it was just weak after that
