I would like to see it stricken from the Inaugural Oath, and all government functions, but I don't think this is the right way to do it.

Um... If wiki is trustworthy on this, "So help me god" isn't even part of the speech, as it states in the article.
Taken straight from the website:

The swearing-in of the President of the United States occurs upon the commencement of a new term of a President of the United States. The United States Constitution mandates that the President make the following oath or affirmation before he or she can "enter on the Execution" of the office of the presidency:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

The newly elected or re-elected President traditionally adds "so help me God" to the constitutionally mandated statement.

Either way, the words aren't important, it's the ideas behind them. "Don't screw this up or it will be your ass" don't sound as appropriate, neither does "I super promise to try REALLY hard!" Again, if he wishes to say it, he can. It is his right to say whatever he wants.

Well.. since it's not about Obama or any other person, I can understand that plead. It is rather stupid to have that in a inauguration speech, as the person has to say it. However.. I am an atheist, but forcing him to leave it out? I would like to say it's up to the person, but in a case like this, it can't be. If it was, they would have to change any and all other things according to the person making the speech. A general thing such as this I can agree on though.. but let it be changed after he has made the speech then.

Mm, and guess how super-popular he would be if he didn't. Just imagine!

If they don't like it, screw em. This isn't an Athesist nation and God help us if we ever do elect an Athesist.

Atheists are often upset with others for trying to push their religion on them. Well, they're doing the exact same thing that they hate. It doesn't make sense. I am all for freedom of religion, but if you're atheist, be aware that most people in America have some sort of religion. In fact, the whole country was founded on religious principles. Therefore, I don't think that the atheist protest group should be making such a big deal about it.

Excuse me, i may be wrong here, but doesn't it say something somewhere in the constitution about being a secular state?

I think it depends on who is getting inaugurated. If Obama wants to say it, then he should be allowed to.

it also sates it on the dollar bill right next to the statement "In God, we trust"

Atheists don't belive in God, an afterlife, and most other things that are involved in religion, right? So why should they care if the president has to say something relating to a religion they "know" dosn't mean anything? A scientologist belives that "Xenu" was evil or something like that, but since I belive that it is batshit-crazy I would run into the streets yelling "Hail Xenu!!!!" and wouldn't give a shit.

It's not a Christian nation, either.

That's what pluralism and freedom are all about.

That makes alot of sense, seeing as Religion should NEVER be used in politics, seeing as the rules set by religion was valid thousands of years ago.

If your a religious man, good for you, go pray on your own time, dont bring your own belief into politics that affects alot of people that dont believe in what you do.
