Why do you prefer forums to social networks? I'm very curious to read your responses, I thank you for your time.
Forum, you post just so you can post. On social networking websites, the objective seems to be to get as many people on your friends list as possible. I recall someone recently laughing at how pathetic someone was because they had something like thirty friends. I was absolutely speechless, there was nothing I could think of to say in response.

I have both a Facebook and a Twitter and use them both on a regualar basis. It allows me to chat with friends that have moved to go to their colleges and other such things as that. Its also easier to get a group of friends to come to the bar as you don't have to text each one, just pop it up on your status with details and people will come, its nice to not have to worry about offending someone you didn't want to offend and even more fun to use your status to poke fun at others who fit the stereotypes that some people see in Facebook, such as those who say they love someone in each status, or song lyrics or spell "you" like "yhu"

I've never used facebook, so I'm not really qualified to comment on it. My colleagues are obsessed with it though, to the point where they have drama's over comments made on it, or not made...2 of 'em fell out because one failed to reply to something the other said...they still don't talk.

It's not for me...

Because here I don't have to get a notification every time someone breaks wind. The only reason I have a fucking facebook is because nobody checks their email anymore.

I have a facebook, and it's no big deal. I can choose whether I want to add someone as a friend or not if someone wants to be friends with me I can either accept the request or can pass on it.

but overall I'm on this site a lot more.

I like to comment sarcastically on the stupid stuff people say on facebook, or have legitimate discussions with people when I might not often have the opportunity at school.

With Facebook and Myspace, it's filled to the brim with stupid pictures and idiots trying to 'hook up' as well as people 'friend whoring.' There's also the 'clever status updates' things which is why I hate Twitter even more.

Here, no pictures unless you really want to, and you can have more conversations, intellectual or not, especially within the Usergroups. In either case, this is the lesser of the evils when it comes to social networking.
Basically this.

Also, harp on about privacy settings all you like, but at the end of the day, you're putting your entire life (and the lives of everyone you know) on the internet and in the hands of a company that wants to make money.

I'm a teenager. Most people I know are teenagers. The most intelligent thing they say on a regular basis is "I'm hungry."

I get what everyone says when they say they'd rather use the phone, but I can't stand using the phone, I think faster than I talk and trip over my words more often than not, but type just as fast as I think, thus, I prefer social network sites for talking to my friends (Same with texting, my friends all get my weirdnessess).
But formus are more of, like people have said, places to talk about mutual interests that your friends might not have with you, so more often than not I end up with facebook in one tab, and this and another forum open in another tab.

Text based communication is just superior to me, so it doesn't mater what I'm using.

My input is that you can't learn much about the world if you only hear stuff from people you know.
