According to this:

Bad folks have managed to find a way to send trojans trough the "secure" IW.net.

Might wanna ramp up your security a bit.

OH CHRIST CAN WE PLEASE SHUT UP ABOUT MW2?!
No we can't. This is a genuine threat to people who bought the game(assuming that everybody with the knowledge of cracking the game is also smart enough to run an antivirus) and IW's own forum is down again, presumably to remove all threads that reported this in order to keep up appearances that iwnet is perfect. This is the only way to reach as many of the people at risk as possible.

So....

WE'RE THE LAST, BEST HOPE OF HUMANITY?

Sorry, always wanted to say that.

No, we just took an unusual level of pity on the brainless sheep who bought into iw's lies. As a pirate i'm quite content with my constantly moderated <20 ping server with lean and fov 80 enabled that i have bookmarked on one of my G15's extra buttons.

That made me laugh.

Cheers for the heads up on the virus.

My opinions on getting this game keep changing.
Yesterday after Escapist reviews I was quite hyped and up for getting it, today it has gone right down again. I seriously hope IW actually address this soon and do something soon, but something tells me I shouldn't hold my breath.

To everybody who thinks running an AV means they cant get a virus.

Remember this. 95% of viruses aren't detectable by every major AV.

http://www.virustotal.com/estadisticas.html

The only safe way to prevent viruses is to not DL suspicious files & stay alert & up to date on security patches & practices.

p.s. most viruses now are made by eastern european & russian organized crime; and are designed to steal data, not destroy your computer. they're supposed to run stealth (aka rootkit). If you have one you probably dont even know you do. So it's best to back up your files, do a clean install of windows (format your drive) at least every couple months if you're a heavy internet user.

While I praise you for not being a mindless sheep and buying MW2 because of the CoD brand, you're still an asshole for pirating a game. Unless, of course, you bought the game, then hacked it to get those features in. That, I have no problems with.

And the shitty news for MW2 keeps rolling out. The PC buyers really got butt f*cked this time.

It was actually IWnet that released the virus, it's to punish any PC users without a backbone who bought MW2.

Lets all spam IW forums so they have to either look at all the posts about it or work hard to remove em all and pretend like everything is dandy.

It's a rumor.

All these "reports" originate from people using Avira AV. Either Avira has come the most effective piece of AV software overnight, and all other AV software has missed this "Trojan", or it's simply a false positive.

After various people submitted the file(s) to Avira for further testing it was confirmed by "Avira's Virus Lab" that the file(s) were actually clean and this is indeed a false positive that will be resolved in the next update.

Apparently they are able to hack the server and send virus/trojans to people, in the process they run aimbot in the game, and send a non tagged member to the other team to TK.

quite a story those guys are.

This was the trojan they were trying to send;

TR/Crypt.XPACK.Gen
[Solved] TR/Crypt.XPACK.Gen Trojan- in quarantine- is computer ok?

Hi,
The sample was re-analyzed and it is clean. The detection is already removed, just update.

Why do people go to the trouble of making viruses. What joy can they even get out of it? Sickos.

These days most malicious software is not made for fun, but for profit, either to steal your personal and/or bank information, or to use your computer in botnets.

Back on topic, reports still seem to be a bit conflicted as to whether there is an actual problem or not, but keeping you AV and firewall software up to date is always a good idea.
