She drew away slightly as Orson started to cough violently, though not enough to disturb Beni's cleaning of her arm. Once his coughing fit stopped she saw fit to answer, "My name is Jovy and... I'm not sure where we are exactly." She looked around slightly, trying not to move too much for Beni's sake again, "I know we entered these mines a good while ago, but I couldn't tell you how far we're in."

As Orson and Jovy talked the doctor's wife finished her task and set aside the bloody towels. Iemben arrived with his tools in hand and motioned briefly for Jovy's attention.

"I'm going to stitch the wound now." he said, as Beni tied a length of cloth tightly around Jovy's upper arm. They were saving as much anesthetic balm as they could for the villagers and the severely wounded; this biting cord was all the numbing Jovy would get. As soon as the knot was sufficiently tight the doctor began his work, silently.

The tunnel was wide and low and descended rather steeply, so that at some points Felon and Aryana had to be careful not to bash their heads upon the stone above them. Once or twice it dropped sharply and they were obliged to use their hands to brace against the floor behind them. There were loose rocks here, and places in the walls and floor where holes had been filled with dirt and pebbles.

The tunnel bent northward and continued downward, though now even steeper than before. Suddenly a loose shelf of rock gave way beneath Felon's foot! He would have been able to catch himself, but his wounded leg buckled under his weight and he fell forward, and began to roll down the slope!

"Mines . . . " Orson repeated thoughtfully, finally understanding what he was seeing around him. After a few moments of gazing at the walls of the underground passage he grinned and started chuckling, almost sinisterly. But his body quickly caught him and he started coughing again.

He hacked for a long, painful minute before laying back and closing his eyes. The little smirk still sat upon his lips as he took several slow breaths. "You won't even need to bury me." he said to no one in particular, the darkness of his humor earning him a sad glance from Iemben.

Honestly, Jovy expected the pain to be worse. Her arm had felt numb, like it was barely her own, for a long time because of its exposure to the elements but a quick shot of feeling up her arm reminded her it was still hers. But the pain still wasn't as bad as she expected...

A little more guilt bubbled up inside her. She knew that she shouldn't be glad at all of any of this; she shouldn't ever have felt as if this was anything other than the worst outcome of a terrible situation... With every new thought more of that guilt had to be suppressed, from Orson's imminent death to her first encounter with the Easterners, and her feelings conflicted further.

Which of them now were the truly lucky ones? Those left behind to wander, or those free to die? Her thoughts jumped as another shot of pain went up her arm, forcing her to mutter a curse under her breath.
