Do you listen to audiobooks?

I just started listening to A Game of Thrones, and I'm really enjoying it. Combination of awesome writing and good narration I think.

Your thoughts?

I tried an audiobook for "Millions", a book I didn't particularly enjoy. Say if it were something like "The hobbit" (a book I've read 5 times, it is my favourite) then I would enjoy it. But since I've only had one experience with audiobooks I can't say.

When I was younger I listened to the Harry Potter audiobooks, narrated by Stephen Fry, they were really good from what I recall.

Roy Dotrice is awesome. Made me love the series much more than I should. BOok 4 is some other guy, though, didn't like it as much. And since this is pre-HBO, the names are pronounced differently.

People look at me funny when I say Cat-lynn, Dan-air-ees, Pit-ire(Petyr), and Bry-eeeeene.

I still say I'm right.

They tend to be fairly expensive and you run the risk of an unpleasant voice ruining the story for you. Saying that, I've listened to a lot of radio-plays and novels adapted to radio. I'm a massive fan of Big Finish's Doctor Who, which follows the 8th Doctor (the one who was only in the film).

The library has audiobooks, at least in the US.

Personally? I love audiobooks. I do most of my reading while driving or doing other mundane activities.

I remember listening to this great production of the Golden Compass years ago, with a full voice cast, and I also liked the Hitchhiker's guide having been orated by Adams himself. :)

Stephanie Plum novels are also more fun in audiobook form, but I don't think that's most Escapist's sort of books...

Hehe /brofist me to =) walking to and from work i have game of thrones on my phone currently about half way through its nice to hear alot more back story to characters and events that the tv series glosses over abit.

NO SPOILERS seriously i flipped my shit in work yesturday when i heard someone spoil part of the book for me, something that hasn't appeared in season 2 yet either.

But yes audio books made of win.

Doing house work smoking some trees got my game of thrones on all is good.

I just don't tend to find them as immersive as regular books. My eyes always feel like they need something to do. And, as I said, I've had the misfortune to get one where the guy just couldn't do a couple of the voices, and I couldn't take it seriously. I can see how they would be brilliant when you're driving though.

I like audiobooks, but I rarely find any interesting ones to a decent price. The ones I've listened too, I've greatly enjoyed. I still read more regular books though, audiobooks could never replace the scent and texture of paper and the feeling of owning a book. A great feeling. I will most likely go to the purchase of audiobooks for my car. Entertainment! C:
