I don't like Rap music. Not many on this site do. That said your "Aussie Rap" was pure fail.
Cool story bro. Didn't you read no haters allowed?
Oh no! An alternative opinion in a discussion? What a travesty! /sarcasm

Seriously man, I don't give a toss if the OP said "No haters!" because this is a discussion and I'm entitled to give my opinion.

Wow, who would've thought Aussie Rap could be such a passionate and divisive subject?

As it is, Sydneysider here. No big fan of Rap myself but out of the stuff that does get played in Australia, Hilltop Hoods would be my preference. Not to mention they take the time to give it decent backing, as opposed to most of the stuff I've heard recently. But eh. I'm an ambient/DnB sort of guy.

It's said before, but hell. I'm not a fan of rap, except for Hilltop Hoods really. I was in the eponymous 'nosebleed section' when they performed that song at Big Day Out. It was epic.

Am I wrong to have been thinking that such a thing doesn't exist? It seems unthinkable, though I guess some sort of music has to be listened to from local bands.

I'm not really into rap but I do like Hilltop Hoods, I've seen them live twice and really enjoyed it.

I don't acctually mind hilltop hoods too much

A girl at school sometime ago said she hated aussie rap because of the annoying accent they always used which she described as "some bogan crap" I can acctually understand this, but once you get used to it its not too bad

uggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhh. that was just terrible. metallica save my ear drums from self destruction *plays all nightmare long* ahhhhhhhhhhhhh.
If you don't like than don't post. I don't wanna hear from you "ROCK IS AWESOME MAN" type of people.
I second that, why is metallica always considered some golden standard in music? you know what? Not everyone likes metallica not everyone likes ACDC

(ACDC in particular...aggghh make my ears bleed)

That's Aussie Hip Hop, not rap. There is a difference. Down here the Hilltop Hoods' most famous somg is probably 'Nosebleed section'. Personally I don't much like Aussie Hip hop but there's this one song I just love, for exactly the same reasons you state for liking the genre:
A cool little song about a guy imagining how much better his life would be under a different name. The image he paints is just great!

You've got to be kidding me! There's been loads of good stuff, of the top of my head I'd list the Presets, Wolfmother, Yolanda B Cool, Hook N Sling, etc etc

Srsly? What about Baby Animals? (Suze DeMarchi, mmmm :D ) And Frente were a pretty sweet Aussie pop sound. Oh, and Nick Cave of course.
Just for the record, though, AC/DC are absolute crap, I can't stand to listen to them.
(Disclaimer: My opinion only, YMMV)

I hate to be a Nazi about this but rap is hip hop. Hip Hop is the culture, rapping is one of its elements.

I've never really been a fan of rap, but being an Aussie and more into stations like Triple J I hear my fair share of Aussie hip-hip. It isn't too bad. Recently at Stonefest in Canberra, I got stuck watching Bliss N Eso, and the DJ parts were pretty good. All in all, I find it much more bearable to listen to, and even like some of it, more than US rap.

i'd agree, i normally hate hiphop...but love the hoods. i think its because they rap about other things than bitches and hoes and how much money they have.. example:

speak from the heart, but only when I drink,
And I only ever sleep when I?m too tired to think,
Restlessness, the reaction that you will find,
From stress I guess and having a compassionate mind,
I worry bout the machine of progress, ain?t no stopping it,
The forest we destroy and the world we build on top of it,
Mercenaries get paid salaries to slaughter,
Girls obsessed with body image find calories in water,
Nurses comfort seven-year-old casualties of mortar,
A peasant?s daughter caught up in a war for a border,
And at home we treat our refugees like criminals,
Detention centres just a catch phrase for a minimal
Security prison, we drive gold trimmed cars,
Down the road an Afghani kid grows up behind bars,
And we wonder why they hate the west,
When we treat them like they?re second-class citizens at best,
We?re all pawns in a game, the USAs miniatures,
Aussie foreign policy with George Bush?s signature,
Peeps die for a watch and blue chip stock,
Did they do Big Pop or was it two bit cops,
I wanna sue kid rock for making rednecks think they?re hip hop,
Wanna swallow people?s pain and spit it from the hilltop,
Wanna affect change in the subjects that we talk on,
Connect strangers, work together and walk on.

"The Hard Road Restrung" is a MASSIVELY underrated album in my opinion. the orchestra gives it a very "epic" sorta feel

Its interesting I'm normally one of those rap haters. Don't have time fot it and all its pimpn' bitches put a cap yo ass bollocks. But my ears always have time for the Hoods, there music is slick and the raps have meaning so thanks for sharing the music mate.

Incidently have you heard of a Queensland group by the name of Butterfingers. Not everybodies cup of tea but you might like it.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyzrKPcLpBw

I know the escapist isn't the ideal rap fans. I enjoy it from time to time but I have been recently getting sick of the mainstream shit I have here in the USA. Recently I found some stuff called Aussie rap.

I gotta hand to it Australia its alright. Better than a lot of the R&B shit I have here in America.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hP4LG1T-9Ww&feature=related

Kinda reminds me of our actual party culture we have here. Thats what I like about it. The songs are about having fun in ways that are actually possible like house parties and bars.

Most of the rap here is for wannabee thugs who wanna line the "high life." This is just about wanting to have fun.

Check out Bliss-N-Eso there really good, great beats and inspirational lyrics.I found out about them in the last fight night game which was actually the most entertaining part for me in that game there one song.

Not to mention Superjesus, Powderfinger, Grinspoon, The living End, The Whitlams, Regurgitator, Wolfmother, Deasel the list really does go on.

I do draw the line at calling AC/DC crap mind you, that would be un-Australian. Boring and repititous but certainly not crap ;-)>
