But, no. You are wrong.

It isn't twice the cost of living that people like you have to pay compared to what people like me pay.

I am talking about ALL NECESSITIES FOR LIVING! If the average cost of a home was double what it is in my home, I would relate and feel sympathy. But it isn't.

If the cost of Petrol was double, I might feel some sympathy, but it isn't.

If the cost of socks, milk, eggs, butter/margarine, beer, shoes, cars, computers, televisions, beef sandwiches, pizzas (do you have pizza in your country?) parking, soda/pop, theaters, bars, vacations....

If you spent twice what we do... I wouldn't care. That would be equal. But you spend LESS THAN THAT!!!

You get a better bargain in the long run, based off the numbers.
So, where are you getting these numbers from?

unless the game is old or you are trading then eb games is crap

jb hi fi is awesome however.
eh...Ive found then to be the same..it does vary between the induvidual stores though
Actually, no it doesn't. I have worked at both these retail outlets and know that it is a fixed pricing. JB is always cheaper.

Australia, and The United States of America. These are the two places I'm talking about.

sigh
Yes, I am aware of that. I am asking what your source for the claims you are making is.

Steam or EB games during their hourly sale. For console new releases, JB Hifi, because they seem to sell them there for a good $20 less.

Oh, and GAME for PSP stuff- they usually have a better selection than the others, and it's not like our PSN has any fucking games on it.

It isn't so much cost that bothers me, it's selection- I'm sick of seeing a video of a cool, underrated game, and then realising there is NO way it's gonna be for sale anywhere.

EB generally is $5 - $10 more than JB Hifi here. HOWEVER! The staff at EB know my name. Know my tastes in games. They know what systems i own, and what addons to systems i have. They can reccommend me more obscure titles that i may have overlooked, or i can just go in and shoot the shit for an hour about dragon slaying in the snow.

Plus their new rewards system is fantastic, and you can return a game within 7 days for full refund even if it is just because it didn't meet your expectations.

I love my local EB. And this kind of service is worth way more than $5.

On the other hand, go to any of the 4 JB's nearby here and ask an attendent if there is a release date on say, ME3... and they'll stare blankly and ask what a ME3 is. Screw that.

I was just thinking it's strange that a country that has double my Countries minimal wage shouldn't complain about payin double for silly preoccupations when they pay less than twice the amount of costs for living.

Sorry to upset.

Cheers! I'm jealous of your way of life!
We have a higher minimum wage than the US in Australia true. But our cost of living? Jeeesus. What is petrol or gas costing in the US at the moment?

Here it is on average around $1.50 a litre. that is roughly AU$6.60 a gallon. Now, it's been about 18 months since i was in the states last, but i belive gas was $3 a gallon.... when i was there. That is only one example of excessive inflation in this country. Video games are another. Movies / Music ... all forms of entertainment, PLUS the insanity of the prices of groceries... ach i could go on for a while.

But still. I'd prefer to shop at EB where the cost is a touch higher, for the great CS i get.

EDIT: I just read more of this "Sober Thal" posts...

These are rough figures, by no means to the cent accurate:

Average price of beer : Australia $44.00 a carton
Average price of a loaf of bread at the supermarket: $3
Average price of a Litre of milk $2 ($8.80 a galoon)
Movie theatre : $18.50 (Major chain)
Pizza from my local pizza place : Large Pizza $14.50 . Also keep in mind a "Large" pizza in Australia standards is a LOT smaller than america

I get most of my games from Dungeon Crawl. So far I've never had a bad experience with them and they are usually $10-20 cheaper then retail.

Yeah, you got me there.

I should probably edit my other post, eh?

I just like to post about how unfair it is for Australian gamers to get their new games for as little as $120.

I really envy them their 'problems'.

sigh

Jealous rage and all that...
It's not just luxury goods that at more expensive over here, it's everything. Food, water, internet, electricity and petrol (gas for Americans) are all more expensive over here, despite our dollar being so strong at the moment.
That means that if you have bills to pay, it can be hard to afford to buy new games at retail prices when they are so stupidly overpriced.

You get a better bargain in the long run, based off the numbers.

Plus you get to ride kangaroos to and fro.

You also get crazy bird eating spiders. Big whoop.
Sorry mate no bird eating spiders here, they all live in South America.

For the record as someone who isn't on the minimal wage, once rent ($215 a week), fuel ($1.40 perLitre), car ($185 per week), insurance (Don't ask), food(Over $100 week and I'm lucky, I'm in hospitality), sundries and speeding fines (Still pending) are taken into account I can barely afford a round of beers - Guiness $7.85 a pint - let alone wandering off to EB or JB Hi-fi buying new games and save money.

Ohh yeah you mentioned homes. Cheapest home I could find on the South side of Brisbane was over $300 000 - not including the land.

I would also like to point out that it is more expensive to live in my home town of Brisbane than it is to live in New York. Thank God I don't live in Sydney (14th most expensive city to live in apparently).

Not that I would even care to correct your ignorance but your backward and offensive quip on us '..do you have pizza in your country' has me riled.

Also the question was asked to Australasians (Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, Samoa, Fiji, Australia and so) Unless your from Hawaii what are you doing in this thread aside from causing trouble?

...oh yeah...my apologies for living in a country where people don't have to tip so other people can get a decent wage.

I'm pretty sure Australians get there games at game traders in Robina.
If only it weren't nearly a days drive.

Well, that and it closed.
