I'm at work, so I'll keep this brief.

http://wap.news.bigpond.com/articles/Technology/2012/06/18/Gamers_get_adults-only_classification_762355.html

Legislation was passed on Monday to allow an R18+ classification for games in Australia. According to the news source, the new classifications will commence on 1st January, 2013.

All I can say is it's been a damn long time coming.

So, are there any Aussies on here looking forward to something in particular?

News is awesomesauce.

Can still be fucked up if one state votes against, but am reasonably confident that won't happen.

There's nothing in particular that I'm missing out on (due to being a smart consumer and not being tied to a local store), but will enjoy the the slight lessening of stupidity.

Wait... we won? WE ACTUALLY WON?! OH HALLELUJAH, never thought I'd see this day!

Hopefully nothing good comes out in that 2 month window between its implementation and my 18th.

Meh to be honest the R 18+ rating never made a huge difference. We lost about 10 litres of blood per game and skipped a few generic or psychotic shooters.

Any AAA title that wanted in just toned it back or got ordered in solo from over sees. The only title I think we really missed was Mortal Combat and that's about it. The only good thing about it is that shit parents cant blame the games when their 14 goes crazy cause hes bin playing a game with a big 18+ sticker on it.

Cause that's such a huuuuge difference. I can't even enjoy the games because instead of taking morphine I get med-x instead. Such a game breaker.

OT: Don't think it will do much and I'll still get these R18+ games in my hands anyway.

I look forward to the medium gaining the same recognition that movies, literature and TV have had for a long time, in that Video games can be a legitimate and accepted form of adult centric entertainment.

Well it didn't have any effect on the game really no, but we did technically get a game watered down for everyone. Ideally we shouldn't be able to do that.

Well I'm glad as it's something that should have been here in the first place. 18+ movies/games allowed in other western countries, and 18+ movies allowed here. It makes zero sense to ban just one of those from just one country. Anyways by the time Jan 1st comes around MK9 will be dirt cheap to import. Try importing it now and customs treat you like a drug trafficker.

Its about time, I can finally play Mortal Kombat.
About that. Those games are still banned mate. I know it sucks but just buy it online.

Also...YEAH FINALLY WE HAVE WON. Everyone pop the energy drink and drink to this awesome battle we have won. WOOO. No more banned games for us. :D

I am looking forward to what games we have for R18+...full content is always awesome. But it sucks how we can't still get MK9 or A un-censored version of L4D2. D:

Still...we won. ^_^

yaay. I hear there was a party at our IGN office.

Well it's always a party there, but today they actually had a reason to be happy.

its still kind of funny to think our humble little country changes the name of drugs in a game...

even if it doesnt make any difference now its somthing that was really needed..and only a good thing

Just because we're getting a R18+ rating doesn't mean that games won't get banned.
Other countries have had R18+ ratings and still had games banned. All this means is that some games that should be R18+ will be rated appropriately and some will be banned without due cause.
The same incompetant twats will stil be in charge, so things will still suck.

I didn't even notice. I think it's cool that they've actually given them names.
