http://www.news.com.au/national/medical-students-are-performing-intrusive-exams-on-unconscious-patients/story-e6frfkw0-1225996222221

The jist of the article is that Australian doctors are making their medical students perform invasive examinations on unconscious patients in their private parts without the patients knowledge or consent. If you live in Australia, does this affect your confidence in your country's medical system? If you live outside Australia, does this sort of thing happen in your country? No matter where you live, what should be done about this?

The title sounds like the description of something you really don't want found in your web history. If you know what I mean.

OT: That's really creepy. I wouldn't mind so much if it led to discovering I had cancer or something though. Still, that's really something that just shouldn't be done.

Isn't it part of the code of Apollo (is that what it's called?) that you will only administer medical practices to someone who actually wants them?

Well I'm almost qualified to be a lifeguard (6 months till i become one) and one of the first things they teach you, is that when trying to help someone, unconsciousness is consent. so if they were doing an examination to help the doctors, then i think it would be fine. However, if there was no need to do this, and it was just to give a demonstration, then it is unethical.

from the sounds of this article, it seems that the latter is the case, and therefore, this should not have been done.

Unconsciousness is consent. Sounds like a dangerous mindset, i think more rapist oughta adopt that defense. A doctor doing an examination of your genitalia without consent is a little bit different than drowning, dieing, or otherwise having your life in imminent peril. It doesn't matter if the examination was supposed to help the doctors or the patients or if it was just to get your rocks off, this crosses a line.

Do you think they should adopt that defense because it would not work, or because it would work?

Well, my uncle works at the local public hospital, and I do have private health insurance, so it doesn't bother me at all :)
