I recently found this: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1193398070/huntsmen-australian-based-dynamic-sandbox-fpsrpg?ref=city

An interesting setting, we hardly get any games set in Australia anymore. It could be a good game too, hopefully they get funded.

Other than that what other kickstarter projects have you found and are excited about? You can talk about already funded projects as well, but lets keep it on the subject of games.

Looks interesting - you're right, there aren't even close to enough games set in Australia. Case in point: I can't think of a single one right now. Minimum pledge to get the game's a bit too high for my current finances, though.

I think my favourite project right now is The Mandate ( http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1964463742/the-mandate?ref=live ), and I'm having a hard time figuring out why it hasn't received more funding. It's like X-COM meets Battlestar Galactica in Tsarist Russian space. What's not to like?

Board game-wise, my current two favourites are:

- Monte Cook and Bruce Cordell's The Strange ( http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1433901524/the-strange-a-tabletop-rpg-by-bruce-cordell-and-mo?ref=live ), which I'm not sure I could accurately describe setting-wise but has one of the most elegant RPG systems I've ever seen, their previous project being the also Kickstarted Numenera.

- The King's Armory ( http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/johnwrot/the-kings-armory-the-tower-defense-board-game-0?ref=live ), which is an attempt to create a scaling drop-in/drop-out 1-7+ player tower defence board game. Yeah. I want that.

That looks very interesting. I would love to see more games set in Australia, especially games with an open world, wondering and hunting mechanics. Do you know where I can find more info on the developers? I want to check them out and see if they can do it before I give them my money.

My favourite kickstarter project is The Dead Linger: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sandswept/the-dead-linger
It looks like it's progressing well.

I'm pretty sure it's not actually set there.

I'm really quite enthusiastic about Starsector: http://fractalsoftworks.com/

It's basically Mount and Blade crossed with Space Pirates and Zombies. Currently it is very much in Alpha phase and looks likely to remain so until well into next year at least but there is already a buzzing mod community.

In spite of its unfinished state I keep finding myself drawn back to it again and again and again.

Huntsmen looks intersting, I do love me some sandbox build 'em up. Not sure how this "simulated ecosystem" malarkey is going to work though; they tried that in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and well... lets just say it's an easy thing to say quickly.

It is, but only after backlash the main characters voice will only NOW be Australian.
(Note we have no idea if the voice actor will be Australian, or someone putting on the accent).

If the devs only now made the voice Australian, so I am skeptical about how much respect they really have.

I'm sorry but post apocalyptic games, and post apocalyptic game set in Australia especially need to have rusty V8s and muscle car hybrids front and centre to get my attention at all, because to this day there's still no post apocalypse world more worth playing in than Mad Max 2.

I want to play in a world like Mad Max dammit, not a borefest that's like The Road...

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/30564009/ever-jane-the-virtual-world-of-jane-austen/posts/653620

I've been waiting for a chance to share this. Its an MMO based around Jane Austen novels, and it look really interesting. I couldnt care less about Jane Austen, but a game trying to make mechanics out of gossip and party's is worth paying attention to. It might actually be good, how weird would that be.

The only problem with this idea is that while we do have plenty of deadly creatures here, we don't have threatening or intimidating creatures. Besides big reds, emus and cassowaries, there's nothing that looks particularly scary (not like bears and wolves and elephants). Oh, and wild boars. They're probably THE scariest thing here, but not as iconic. The problem with a survival game in Australia is that you're never going to see the animals that kill you. It'll be a funnel web that you thought was a black speck, or a brown snake that you thought was dirt.

Interesting concept, though I don't know if Sydney is unique enough location wise to stand out enough from Fallout.

One thing I would like to see a Kickstarter do is show their budget plan, because I really don't see $200K being enough. That would maybe get you 5 employees for a year, not including their equipment.

Also why is a Tasmanian Tiger in Sydney? crazy :)

All the information you need. It looks like Max will have an Aussie accent. However:

"GC: So is the game now set in Australia too?

AG: We?re basing it on the franchise, we?re taking a specific slice that we want to build. It?s not necessarily bound to any country specifically."

It looks unlikely it is set in Aus.

Basing it on the Franchise means it has to be set in Australia. the End of the 3rdmovie shows a destroyed Sydney.

if it aint set in Oz it might as well just be a new Fallout game.

the guy doesn't want to say its based in Oz cause that will upset the Americans that there is another place out side of the US of A

Beneath A Steel Sky (classic point and click adventure game) was set in Australia. The accents were, predictably enough, hilariously awful.
