Ms Gillard, shut up and take my vote!

So immature . This is the people australians vote for? How very irresponsible . What about the people that MIGHT take this seriously? Sure it's funny to us , but somewhere there is a poor lad who is taking this speech seriously , and spending his saving on useless crap out of fear of the apocalypse . I disapprove.
Given that this was most likely a skit on a comedy program, I think we can spare anyone who did take this seriously.

Well Australia just got 10 times cooler. It's nice to see a politician display a sense of humor once in a while. Now I want to here the Canadian Prime Minister discuss their covert narwhal initiative.

Whoa whoa whoa, whoa. Hold on a second. Are you telling me that you've killed this:
with a shoe? What size feet do you have?
Haha ok maybe I've never encountered anything larger than a huntsman but you have to admit that... thing would still be easier to fight than a snake. After all, the tiny spiders are the ones with all the dangerous venom, that monster is probably all just brute force, its venom isn't going to do anything to a human.
I present to you exhibit number 2!

I'm pretty sure that spider has invalidated your argument. :D

Australia can keep telling the rest of the world that its fauna aren't deadly, I'll be over here with the normal sized spiders, thanks. You know, the ones that don't eat snakes. >.>

Australia: the only country i would seek a 'carry concealed' permit in, JUST for the spiders

Well-trolled, sir.

Further proof Aussies like to take the piss out of everything. But as if proof was actually needed.

NZ PM John Key would do something like this but he'd do it while cracking his stupid shit-eating grin. Gillard at least kept an air of authority.

Wonder if Tony Abbott has a sense of humour? I doubt it. I know his party's polling fairly well and I don't mind the Coalition but I think I'll be sick if that guy ever becomes PM.

You mean people like you who overthink jokes WAY too much? (It was a cheap shot)

Have you seen the opposition leader?...
Now THAT is someone who fits the description of Immature and Irresponsible. He actually got thrown out of the house of representatives this year. One of only six to be thrown out since federation in 1901 http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/opposition-leader-tony-abbott-thrown-out-of-parliament/story-e6frf7jo-1226454502837
Not to mention the time he tried to flee Parliament in order to deny another MP the right to vote. Which I might add is not his right OR the job he was elected to do.

What a troll! This is awesome! Harper (Canadian PM) would never do that; for Christ's sake he gave the Queen's Diamond Jubilee award to Justin fucking Beiber

Hilariously, even AFTER I posted the Harper Trolls The Opposition video, we still get two jabs at him for having no sense of humor. READ MORE THAN THE OP, PEOPLE.

Australians have always been recognized for one particular pastime that no other people on Earth can boast:

Surviving on gods-be-damned Australia, where quite literally everything and it's dog actively seeks your death. This perception was only reinforced by the fact that your two most famous (and known as being Australian) international celebrities have the word "Crocodile" in their name.

"The complete takeover of K-Pop" should be telling. As is "At least I will never have to do another Q&A again."

If some poor lad is thinking the triumph of k-pop is going to end the world in a few days I'll be too busy laughing my ass off to feel even a little pity. There's dumb, and then there's pant's on head retarded, we pity the former and chortle till our bowels are empty at the latter.

You think that's scary I saw a TV show as a kid (probably in the early 90s) that depicted the Mayan prophecy as waffle irons and toasters turning on people and killing them. That's right, your appliances will murder you by the end of this month.

It's all comedy to me, bub.

Australians didn't vote for her.

Ok, in Australian politics we don't vote for an individual like a president, we vote vote for party, and the leader of the party is the Prime Minister. When her party was voted into office a guy named Kevin Rudd was the leader, and thus Prime Minister, but internal conflicts led to him being asked to step down after a year or so as PM and Julia took his place. The public had no say in who the PM should be.

As for those massive spiders, they're called golden orb weavers (you can see the gold web in the snake picture - they've actually made at least one tapestry out of the stuff, as it's pretty damn strong). They don't have enough venom to kill a human, or even cause major harm, but a bite from one (particularly a big one) might make you a little sick.

Those pictures are also a little bit misleading. The bird in the first picture (a chestnut-breasted mannikin) may look to be pigeon-sized, but an average-sized one is only 11cm (4.3in). According to Wikipedia the spider in the picture is the biggest on record (i.e. not typical) at 6.9cm (2.7in), not including leg span. Massive, yes, but not the size of your hand or anything. There are far bigger spiders in other parts of the world.

EDIT: Also, New Zealand has some pretty funny politicians too (skip to 3:10):
