Brent Ghelfi- as far as I know his only novel is Volks game, but that one book is worth more as a work then all of Ludlum or Flemmings writings.

Also George Orwell, Joseph Conrad, Jared Diamond, Terry Prattchet, Tom Clancy (if only for the plots) Robert Harris and Jeremy Clarkson. And no, I dont hold them all in equal esteem, some are entertaining, some informative others are masters of the english language (and some are all three)

Also, Darren Shan. Does no-one else here read Darren Shan?
Yes, I have read one of his books, Lord Loss.
Well done. Now read all the rest.

I like Ian Douglas' military science fiction trilogies.

And, I just started Ringworld by Larry Niven, which is pretty good so far.

GRRM for sure. I have a hard time reading anything but A Song of Ice and Fire.

H.P. Lovecraft is another favorite.

Stephen King and Dean Koontz.

I usually don't get into horror movies or horror video games all that much, but horror books I love.

Julian Barnes.

I absolutely swear by him to anyone who asks.

Best postmodernist I've ever read.

At the moment, Michael Crichton, because I just finished State of Fear.

Stephenie Meyer. Her interpretation of the Nosferatu mythos easily surpasses even Bram Stoker himself. Her characters are so wonderfully shaped and detailed that you can relate to easily and her plots are thick and detailed, they just suck you in and take you on a blind rollercoaster ride, with no announced stops. She deserves a slew of literary awards for her works and I hope that she continues the series for a long time to come.
Gotta hand it to you, I had a good laugh at this.

The guy that wrote Starship Troopers

Heinlein, the guy who wrote the short story about the person who was simultaneously his mother, his father, and also himself through the magic of time travel?

And also a bartender.

Tom Clancy, JK Rowling (until book 6), the guy that wrote The Lightning Thief, and Eric Nylund
I've read material by everyone in the list but Nylund, but he seems like an author I should get into.

I also just picked up a copy of the Lightning Thief the other day, seeing as the movie adaptation comes out next February.

And after reading American Gods, I still thought it was a pretty cool interpretation of mythology in the present.

Neil Gaiman - Anansi Boys, American Gods, Good Omens (Co written with Terry Pratchett)
Read Neverwhere, it's even better than american gods and anansi boys (Which are also amongst my favourite books) IMO. Also by Niel Gaiman, he's a god of words.

OT: i also like William Kings Slayer saga (troll slayer, beast slayer etc.) set in the warhammer universe.
JK Rowling, Tolkien, some Danish authers which i'm unsure that their books have been translated, and some more whom i don't remember the name of.

I read plenty of authors:

Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman (I have a copy of Good Omens signed by both of them via a nefarious plan, but I like Mort and Stardust as well. Was I the only one who liked the Rincewind saga?)

Ian Fleming and H.P. Lovecraft, both authors with problems with their racism and sexism, but considering the time period they wrote in it would be dishonest to the era to take that stuff out. Plus seeing James Bond get pwned by Tiger Tanaka for not knowing who Basho is in You Only Live Twice is HILARIOUS, considering Bond strikes me as the type who reads Biggles books all day.

Hunter S. Thompson and Jack Kerouac

G.K. Chesterton for a reminder of a time when theologians weren't pillocks,

I really like Osamu Tezuka because his manga is practically literature anyway.
