So do you guys and ladies prefer your sex toys manual or automatic? Which gives the power to thrust rati... Or right, sorry. Wrong thing.

Cars. We are talking about cars. I just realise that cars can be sexual too. I've seen that documentary. People who jerk off to cars. Not judging but fully silently judging.

Fuck sorry, back going off topic there, after completing and passing your driving lessons and test, what kind of car did you drive? Auto or manual or a semi automatic?

Bonus question, does driving manual get boring throughout time or just gets easier and mundane like riding a bike or changing a light. Does automatic get too easy to the point of just... meh?

You decide, discuss and not think about the bad innuendo.

This was a Para thread. You know what that means.

I drive automatic. I'd love to learn to drive stick, but that means finding one that I can learn on. And I'd feel better about that if I could get a junk-heap just for that purpose. I certainly wouldn't want to fuck up a friend or family member's car. That's about the only reason I haven't learned.

So, what does a Para thread mean? Did I just pop my cherry?

Either-or. For the longest while I only knew how to drive automatic, so always defaulted to that. Then, a few years ago, I got a random itch to give trucking a try, and went out and got my CDL, so now I can drive most anything. If I like the car, and it has good mileage, then the transmission doesn't bother me too much.

In Mario Kart, it depends on how try hardy you want to be. Manual allows you to get micro speed bursts on turns, but it takes a ton of control.

I first learned to drive with a manual. Old-ass but decent-looking 1984 Camaro. Not sure why my dad let me drive it, but eh. Every car after that that I've driven is an automatic. Cars are just a means of transportation to me so I generally don't care about the transmission of what I'm driving.

From what I remember, driving manual is still actually kind of simple and mundane; just need to pay a little more attention.

Learn on Manual, then drive whichever you prefer. Where I live everyone basically does that, since passing the driving test on manual lets you drive both manual and automatic, but passing on automatic only lets you drive automatics.

I do think automatics are much better for getting around though, much more confortable. But I do think that knowing how to drive stick is still a useful skill.

Automatic. Never driven a manual, and here in Oz, I'd need to get a specialized licence to be able to legally drive a manual car.

Automatic. i did learned to drive manual, however someone gave me a old manual car that havebt be drive for like 3 years, and i broke the transission after one day...

anyway, in 2017 the automatic transmissions are much more performant than 20 years ago

Manual mainly.
Driven an automatic maybe 20times or so while manual is the go-to. Don't own a car myself but work has me drivin 2-4 days a week.
Driving manual becomes pretty much like biking I'd say. Depending on how new/old the car is, it is a bit different, but swotching gear a few times will have you right on track.

Manual. I've only driven an automatic once and I didn't much care for the lack of freedom over acceleration. Once I put the cruise control on I could've just had a kip.

I didn't need 'drive a stick' to become a euphemism, especially when I hate to mess with the clutch. I'll go automatic, please.

Automatic. It's mostly because that's what we already had available and that I couldn't be arsed to go and learn how to drive a manual.

Now Europe is waking up, I guess we'll get a string of manuals.

Tried driving my mate's mum's automatic for about 20 seconds ten years ago. Didn't like it at all.

One thing I will say about manuals is after years of having fairly powerful cars that can power through on pretty much any gear, you do really notice having to use the gears on hills when you get a more sensible car for your needs (1.1L in this case).

Manual. It's kind of the default option in this part of the world, and I don't have a car myself.

No I don't. Incidentally, isn't this the kind of thread that begs for a poll on top?

Right now, in fact for the last decade I've driven an automatic. Its actually difficult to find a manual here anymore. However, learned to drive in an ancient '66 chevy farm truck. And even now I can drive just about anything (at one point I even had a CDL allowing me to drive heavy commercial vehicles.)

Automatics are good in traffic, bumper to bumper, stop start.

I prefer a manual on open road. Its nice being able to down shift to overtake etc.

Modern automatic transmission does that too.

I can drive both and I like driving both. Though a sucky manual gearbox is exactly that.

I'm a bit of a car nut, somewhat a purist, so manual all the way for me. I actually got my auto license 1st because I was so keen to just start driving, and the family wagon was auto. Year later I got my manual one though. Love the engagement and control over the engine and power delivery. I drive half for fun though, so I don't go into all the arguments about which one is faster, nowadays the auto version of performance oriented cars are quicker around a track anyway.

I've only bought manual cars (except for one, a Toyota Soarer SC400, was too good a deal to pass up at the time), though the traffic where I live now makes it a bit of a *****. So much so in fact, that I'd rather take Uber than sit out an hour plus just to travel 9km. Office pays for it anyway, so it's a good time to catch up on some reading/ sleeping/ series/ anime.

Thats cool. In the uk we dont drive a lot of automatics. My last auto was when I lived in Texas, 1999 so I guess things have moved on.
