Well a lot of my friends started listening to Avenged Sevenfold recently and I'm not sure if I should too. There's nothing particularly bad with there music except for some things that I can't place my finger on but I can't see myself ever voluntarily listen to it. "Metal" isn't my thing, I guess.

So, escapees, what do you think of AV7X, do you like them, hate them or is their style far too inferior for your musical taste? Speak, damn you!

Edit: Goddammit, listen! I am not asking if I should start listening to them because my friends are, what I'm saying is that they've gotten into them, thus introducing me, and I'm not sure, should I also get into them, if I'll find shit or gold. I've sampled 3 songs. Each was completely different from one another. One was damn awesome. One was okay. One was god-awful. So I'm not sure, are they good? Or are they not? Damn, it's a pretty simple question.

I don't mind them. I don't hate them, but they're not a favorite of mine. They have some decent songs. Also, I'm pretty sure it's just A7X, not AV7X.

I don't listen to them. If you don't like it don't listen to it. Don't be pressured into listening to a type of music you don't like for the sake of having something in common with someone else.

I like "A little piece of heaven" because they combined multiple styles and instruments quite well, while having some lyrics that are so unashamedly disturbing they're funny.

Most of their other music is simply too much simultaneous noise for me to separate the sounds, let alone enjoy them.
That probably sounds quite pedantic, but I figure that just makes me pedantic =)

Edit: I do have to point out though that if there's nothing specifically bad you can point out it probably also means there is nothing specifically good you can point out, and that thus it doesn't seem to be to your taste.

Yeah, not impressed with them at all, or their weak acronymn.

they are far too passive for me, and even their good stuff was only barely passible in my book.

Some of their songs I really like, other than that... meh, whatever.
But if all your friends listen to them, then by all means, join them. You do not want to lose friends over such silliness as "taste", "opinions" or "difference".

I like a few of their songs.

Almost Easy, Gunslinger and Scream are all good in my book. Strength of the World is fairly awesome, too.

Nightmare was shit, though.

The problem with the "don't like it don't [verb] it" argument is that I can't determine whether I like it or not without listening/watching or whatever and, in this case, they occasionally have gems and occasionally have audio diarrhea so it's hard to determine just if I like it or not. The bastards.

Also, I'm not being pressured into liking them I'm just not sure if I should get into their stuff. From what I've sampled like Nightmare and A Piece of Heaven they jump rapidly between raping my ears and making sweet, slow love to them. So if I completely dive into them I'm not sure if I'll either break my skull on a diamond or have the blow soften by shit.

Never heard them called that but I guess it makes more sense.

Maybe you should try listening to them? You can always decide you don't like them and never listen to them again. Personally I quite like them, I saw them when they toured with Stone Sour too (when they briefly had Mark Portnoy on drums). They're not one of my favourite bands but they are pretty good and Synyster Gates is a great guitarist. They're a bit hit-and-miss though.

I don't like the voice. The voice is really crucial to me when listening to a band. The actual music, I don't mind, and it kind of reminds me of the band Raise Hell, which I like quite a bit.

Why don't you decide if you like music for yourself?

Well a lot of my friends started listening to Avenged Sevenfold recently and I'm not sure if I should too.
Listen to what you like.

Who cares what other people are doing/listening to.

My mate is probably having sex with his missus now, i'm not going to pop round and give her one afterwards. Just because he's doing her doesn't mean I have to.

One or 2 of my friends like metal and rap yet I still listen to my 80's.

Listen to what YOU want to listen to not what your friends are listening to. If you want to listen to Avenged then do so, if not don't.

They're one of my favorite bands, but then again, I'll listen to anything as long as it sounds good. I can't really recommend a song of theirs to start off on, especially if metal isn't you thing. But, as someone already said, don't feel pressured into listening to the same thing your friends do. You can't force yourself to like something, and trying to do so will just make you miserable.

Old albums were good, then after city of evil they went downhill. Another reason i don't like them is beause they have pretty much a cult following "sevenfoldism". I mean i like them but they are'nt that good.

Avenged Sevenfold is just meh to me.

Mainstream "Metal" music like Disturbed, Trivium, Slipknot, In Flames, and Seven finger death punch, doesn't really do much for me.

I Prefer Grunge, Alt rock, and Prog Metal/Rock, with a dash of Indie for good measure.

The way I usually work is if people I know start listening to a new band, or recently discover a band and they recommend them I will check them out. If I like them, great, if I don't, then I stop listening to them.

My two cents regarding A7X though, I quite enjoy them. I don't like every song, but then I have only found one or two albums my whole life where I have loved every song.

Their singer needs to go away, but I can stand the instrumental work. The Rev is a decent drummer, good soloing work, and fast basslines, and a shitty singer.

Wasted potential in my opinion.
