Avatar, Avatar's sequels and 3D

This article made me sad. I hated Avatar and, when watching it at the cinema, I thought the plot was painfully unoriginal, the 3D was good, but stopped the film drawing me in because I was either thinking "Phwooar..." or "That looks like dog shit," the characters were really bland, and I didn't like the way the human's were the bad guys. I refuse to believe that someone would turn on their own species like that, and by about an hour in, I badly wanted my money back. It's only redeeming quality was the effects, but lots of films have good effects - films that didn't waste two hours of my time.
Is anyone excited about the sequel? I think that even if I like the original it was a one hit wonder, but I suppose lemmings will follow each other over the edge.

i couldn't careless. people are going to watch but i wouldn't. i get it is has good special effects but that does not justify it enough for me to watch a sequel. i don't see the story getting any better in sequel any

also i correctly predicted the ending of the movie once i knew the magical tree could transfer a soul to another body. when the ending is predicable it is not a good sign for the movies story

I disliked the film, rather a lot, just lots of little things annoyed me.

I didn't notice the 3D, let alone at ground breaking best 3D experience it was penned out to be, yes I had the glasses on and yes I was in the right screen.

I also noticed nothing in Tron: Legacy, I have only really noticed 3D on a demo 3D TV in Tesco.

On I will give credit where it's due though, the visuals were absolutly stunning.

Considering how much money went into the whole project, it would be stupid of them to not get out a couple of sequels. Here I hope the stories now will have a bit more creativity and originality put into them, now that they earned a couple of bucks with the first Avatar and are able to afford some decent scriptwriters.

It was a mediocre, unoriginal film. It's not a terrible movie, but there are certainly much better ones out there. The effects were impressive, but the story was by-the-numbers and its tone was too heavy-handed and preachy for my taste.

I do have to admit though, it has one of the most entertaining gung-ho, meathead villains I've seen in a while:

So no, I'd say it doesn't need a sequel. Of course, even less deserving films have been given the same treatment, so I can't say I'm surprised.

Well if you'd like to carry on saying the opposite of what you actually mean then we can pretend I never corrected it.

The first time I watched it, I thought it was a well-made film. The second time (don't ask), the paint started to peel away and the cracks started to show. It really is a deceptive, sneaky film, that makes itself seem better than it is using a few really simple tricks. Good guys are good? Bad guys are bad? Love story amidst a tragic disaster? BRAVO IT'S A HIT.

My main problem with Avatar is that, for all its wonderful effects and its billion-dollar budget, it just didn't justify its own existence.

Cool... I'll watch them. Mainly because I'm not on this silly hate bandwagon everyone jumped on. Honestly kind of liked it. Didn't think it was the best film ever made or even anywhere close to that. However I thought it was an okay film, you its plot isn't original (not many films are) and yes the humans were typical evil straw man villains and it had a lot of eye rolling moments.

Though none of that was enough to put me off the entire movie. It just stopped it from being a great film and knocked it down to "Me'h was alright" film. I think a lot of what it did, it did with great effectiveness.

I can draw a lot of nit picks on this film, true the characters are stock stereo types, the film uses a lot of cheap tricks and true its not original. However for what it was, I really enjoyed watching it. The special effects were pretty good too, which honesty were the highlight of the whole movie. Do I think it should have had a better more polished plot? course. Though for what it was, it worked well and I can't see how this ends up on anyones worse movie ever list.

That being said, maybe my standards have dropped over the years. I've bared witness to a whole lot of really, really, really bad films over the years and I just can't justify sticking this one down with them. The plot was coherent, despite the characters being bland the acting was watchable at the worst, the effects were good and well overall it was an okay movie.

So will I see a sequel? yeah sure. I just hope that now a sequel is in the makes, he'll concentrate more on the plot than the 3D and special effects.

the bad guys lose, the good guys win, and the main character now lives in an alien body on the planet. Why does there need to be a new conflict, other then James Cameron getting more money?

Anyways, onto the REAL topic!

I actually liked the movie... Sure, the plot was unoriginal, (but then again, it's hard to find a movie that hasn't been done before), and I was rather impressed with the effects!

All in all, I'd watch the sequel to it...

To be honest I kinda liked Avatar, but I hated the 3D. It was only used every 10 minutes to show leaves popping out at you. That was the most impressive part about the 3D in this movie. Not explosions, not flying debris, leaves.

Avatar turned me off when... well, well first when I heard it was from James Cameron and everyone kept saying this is going to be the next Titanic, cause I didnt care for Titanic. But more so when it said that they were RE-releasing Avatar with an extra 8 minutes of footage.

No thank you Mr. Cameron, i will not encourage you into making more of this.

Neither am I. I thought Avatar sucked before I knew anyone else did, when you could still be accused of heresy and burned at the stake for saying it. No, I hated it because it was unoriginal and wasted my time and money.

Yeah... I agree that it's only redeeming feature would be the effects. Not like anyone didn't see that the plot was a blatant rip-off anyways.

James Cameron should just go back to making movies about big boats and the romance on them 'cause frankly that's the only thing i can remember from him that i approved of.

The movie was great on its own. Making sequels to it will just drag it down IMO. >_<

Also, I saw it in good old reliable 2D, and thought it was damn good. Not the best movie, but still damn good.

I did like Avatar. It looked great and it wasn't too bad to watch.

Sequels tend to lack a certain something that the original has though. No idea what but I very rarely find a sequel as good as the first one.
