I find animated ones annoying. Not because of them, no, but my inability to use them myself. Hell, the only reason I have this one is because some kind person made it for me. And as much as I like this one, I'd like to have something else now. So I suppose I dislike them for being awesome?

Aside from that, I do wonder why there are so many MLP avatars, but since this website had badge for joining a pony club long before the most recent series, it isn't surprising there is so many. And I have to admit, some of them are good...

It's not so much 'hate' for MLP, as 'why do people keep letting MLP splash into every facet of their posts?'.
Fair enough on your first point, I understand the difficulty in recognising people argument, even it doesn't really happen to me. I can always tell people with pony avatars apart, even when they have the same character, but that's likely because I pay more attention to the avatars since I watch the show. I can understand that as being an annoyance in the same way it annoys me when people have text too small to read in their avatars. It certainly doesn't make me think any less of the poster though.

What I don't agree with, however, is the "why do people keep letting MLP splash into every facet of their posts?", simply because it isn't true. Almost all of my posts are completely unrelated to MLP (my "recent comments" support this, none contain a pony reference until this thread), and if you're simply referring to the avatar then it doesn't make any sense. I could just as easily ask why you let a rainbow wolf thing splash into every facet of your posts.

Avatars like this guy's [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view] really annoy me.

Does that even work anymore?

Just a small prank guys ;). It's all in good fun.

Anyway, no I don't really judge people by their avatars in any significant way, except maybe for people who have no avatars. Just makes me think that they aren't serious about being a member of the Escapist.

Maybe not you, but I direct your eyes to the guy 2 posts up.

Did he need to post a pony picture? That's the sort of thing I'm talking about. Liking MLP is fine, but when I only recognise people for incessantly posting pony pics, there's a problem.

It was spoilered and my spoiler tag mentioned that it was MLP. Don't click things you don't want to see and then complain about seeing them. If you willingly subject yourself to things that annoy you you have no right to complain.

Yeah, except you didn't say it was a pony pic. How the fuck am I supposed to know what 'the G-and-P-Trixie' is?

Guess that's why I got mine. Nobody has any hatred towards inanimate objects. Can't remember how I got it... I think it's a non-existing inside joke.

I aren't bias towards or against any avatars, I will read posts by anyone and everyone when interested in a thread or flame war. I find people that will skip posts based on avatars quite pathetic really.

I hate any avatar that doesn't remind me of something. I really like avatars that makes me think of a show, or anything, really. As a brony, I like MLP avatars, because they make me think of a show that I know a lot about, and therefore are able to link that user to his avatar easily.
Haha! I have your avatar, but better!
I win at avatar- sees username.

At all of the anti-anime avatar people: I hope mine isn't too annoying. If it helps me look better, it's from an 80's anime, Which is basically Japan's Star Trek: The Next Generation; you wouldn't look down on me for a Captain Picard avatar, would you?
Trust me, the rage your avatar has caused me has rendered me too blind to read your posts.
Not sure if joking, or actually serious...

Edit: Although the pony avatar lends itself to the "joking" category. Not only should us anime fans and the bronies stick together, since our avatars are generally hated, but I'm also a brony -- just not big enough of one to get a pony avatar. I'm also more a fan of the specific series that my avatar is from than I am anime in general, although I do like animation, regardless of country of origin.
I was joking. :)

My Little Pony avatars. Every time I see one I think "Oh great, I sure hope this pony fan isn't here to derail this thread."

I don't care about the actual show or think less of them for watching it. It's just that so many of the fans think it's the only thing anyone should talk about, and throw down a pony discussion wherever they can regardless of if it's relevant.
Colour me curious

Examples of this?
Don't ask, you'll never get one. I've asked about proof of this in many threads but have yet to see an example of the aforementioned mass pony derailment.
There was this one time, but it was on a pony hate thread so they kind of deserved it :p

EDIT: Just realised I double posted, and that my avatars are doing some sort of synchronised DERP face 0_0

I have no idea. Back before I watched the show and was annoyed by how many threads on the subject were being created I still thought the ponies were very cute and amusing.
"I like them and can't understand why somebody else wouldn't."

Yeah, see, the thing is that some people don't find them cute or amusing, and when they open a thread and are assaulted by 20 different versions of said uncute and unamusing pony avatar, they tend to get mildly annoyed. It's a shocking concept I know, but some people just like different things than you.

I dislike avatars that don't depict a being or a face of some kind.
Might have something to do with faces being more memorable than patterns or shapes, but I think it's more to do with putting a face to the person writing. In general, I figure that a female depicted in an avatar means a female poster (and vice versa) and I will interpret it as such. This particular example is true of any MLP avatars.

OT though I generally like animated avatars because it jumps out. Mine is supposed to be animated but I can never get it to work.
Animated avatars have to be 75x75 (or 100x100 if you're a member of the publisher's club) or they won't animate. It's easy enough to re-size them in Photoshop.

Hellsing is one of those things where the anime is better than the manga. I'm talking about the Hellsing Ultimate series of OVAs here, the original anime series was fairly decent but not as good as the manga. How do you make a story that has Nazi vampires invading England better? Why, you animate it of course.

Black Lagoon I am also torn on whether the anime or manga is better.

Also, don't change your avatar.
Oh yeah, I totally agree on that one. I started to read the Hellsing manga but just got bored with it and the original series is decent enough but damn... Ultimate borders on being on of my favourite anime series and it greatly brings out any action that was present in the manga.

Black Lagoon, on the other hand... I'm going to go with manga, to be honest. The anime was good, but there were several aspects changed for the worse that I didn't really like and the manga seemed to do the action better than the anime. And for some reason, I just liked the characters more while reading rather than watching.

I only feel slight amounts of bias towards avatars, and that's if your avatar is either REALLY awesome or REALLY creepy. In order not to sound like a douche I will not specify what I consider creepy, but I will say unique ones are the best, along with spins on running gags.

I use peoples avatars to help me build a picture up of them (NOT IN A CREEPY WAY I SWEAR, I just mean if someone is explaining something about themselves it helps me to think of them) therefore I like pictures of people, themselves IRL. Manga pics annoy me because I always assume its a young girl talking and most of the time its a man in his 30's or some shit. I like funny or pretty ones, or game characters because they can be cool.
I use a picture of myself so people know who's talking. It's attracted some unwanted attention though, in the extremely romantic inbox message "need a bf". I'm not sure if they were joking, they haven't made very many posts and haven't been online since. Haha.

I'd thank ye kindly if you could take those words out of my mouth.

I'll break this down for you:

1.) Respondee: "Every couple of posts there's someone who says they already dislike people who have pony avatars, some even going as far as to say they don't read posts by people with those avatars. I can understand not liking the show, but why do people not like the people who do like the show?"
>but why do people not like the people who do like the show?

2.) My response: "I have no idea. Back before I watched the show and was annoyed by how many threads on the subject were being created I still thought the ponies were very cute and amusing."
>I have no idea why people dislike each other for liking different things, in fact I kind of liked the pictures

3.) Back before I liked the show and was annoyed by the MLP craze I still liked the pictures. I did not ignore the content of a post solely because it was next to a MLP picture. This is why I am so confused by the notion that people would do such a thing.

4.) I understand people don't find it cute and amusing. I'm well aware different people like different things. I don't think it is fair to judge the content of ones posts based on their avatar and don't understand why people do that. I'm not the biggest fan of anime. Would you like to have an intelligent discussion with me knowing that I'm going to ignore what you say because of your avatar (not that this is true)? I wouldn't since it would be an exercise in futility.

So, uh, what's with the condescending "I know more than you" attitude?
