[HEADING=1]The year is 0 AG - The Year of the Dragon[/HEADING]

Tension between the Fire Nation and the Nations has increased, the threat of war looms over the world.
Shortly after his confirmation as Avatar, Aang was sent to the Eastern Air Temple to continue his training, however shortly after this, he suddenly went missing.
As Fire Nation outposts continue to present themselves over the Earth Kingdom lands, and even around the frozen poles, this threat of imbalance requires the Avatar to return.

Only a few weeks after his dissapearance, multiple search parties are sent for him, mostly from the Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation, both for very different reasons.
Knowing the fate of the world without the avatar, the nations know the importance of finding the Avatar, either to assist him... Or to put an end to him.

Sozan's Comet has not yet come, but it is fast approaching, and the Air Nomads are unprepared for the devastation that is about to unfold upon them.
Earth Kingdom scouts have confirmed sightings of large forces approaching the several air tempals, whatever Sozan is planning, it will alter the balance of the world completely.

Welcome to 'Avatar - The Search' the basis of this rp is really in the name.

We start a short time after when Aang fled the temple and incased himself in ice, and before sozan's comet has landed, which starts the war and the genocide of the Air Nomads.
Knowing the importance for finding the Avatar, some Earth Kingdom and Fire Kingdom troops are sent in small parties to find the Avatar.
After one of the Earth Kingdom parties is ambushed, the sole survivor wishes to continue the search, and seeks help across the globe from different skills and nationalities.

So as for your character, their current location can be anywhere in the world, if you want this to be a major city, is has to be named, but if you want to create a small town, you can use your imagination.

If your character is a fire bender, you should think pretty hard about your backstory and how we're going to introduce your character.

As for non-benders, they are not only accepted but welcome, including weapon specialists and chi blockers, feel free to also have a character who bends and is also skilled with weapons, but realise that being able to use both, means you should be slightly less mastering of both as singles.

Your character should also have a reason for wanting to find the Avatar, so that they will want to join the group, or can be convinced to join the group.

As always with rp's, having a wide range of abilities and personalities is important, so take a quick look at the basics of the already accepted characters.

Name:
Gender: M/F
Age: Preferable young, as the journey should include improvements in one anothers skills
Bending/Fighting style:
Other notes on abilities:
Ultimate: A large power burst braught on by a large emotion or feeling ect.., also may factor in environmental factors. This ability would be used very rarely, and would drain a large amount of energy. Like a frenzy or a huge fissure in the ground. There must be downsides and upsides to this power. It is what seperates your character from many normal benders.
Appearance: Height, eye colour, physique, ect...
Equiptment and Clothing / Important items: Make sure to include anything important to your backstory
Pets/Mounts:
Personality: How your character acts and converses
Born in + Nation of Origin:

Backstory: Can be as long as you like, but does need some effort.

This link may be helpful in naming your character:

But remember, there's a million Lee's in the fire nation ^.^

The canon lore is not greatly extensive, but you can find most of it here http://avatar.wikia.com/wiki/History_of_the_World_of_Avatar

Anyone can apply, even those relatively new to rp

Currently Accepted Characters
(If yours is not on this list and I haven't stated it won't be, it's either because I haven't looked at it yet or I am undecided)

Name: Tao Charan
Gender: Male
Age: 17
Bending: Earth Bender, no adept weapon skills
Other notes on abilities: Being trained by his blind grandfather, Xin Fu Charan, he can see using his feet to connect with the earth, and has a slight ability to tell heartrate and such by this. However, his ability to do this is much less than someone such as Toph.
Ultimate: At times of great dispair or despiration, a feeling of complete helplessness will come over Tao. His pupils will dilate and his eyes will become completely pitch black. During this short time, he will become very vulnerable to any attack. Shortly after he will incase himself fully in a thick shell of earth, so he cannot do this in water or metal. This earth incasement will cause him to form the appearance of a sort of earth golem, growing in size to around 9ft, and a proportional width. He becomes impervious to any damage, and his powers to bend the earth are increased greatly, giving him enough power to move even mountains. He will not stop until all those who caused the distress are dealt with, and afterward he will fall in an unconcious state for a few hours due to the loss in energy. Suffering from slight memory loss after being awoken.
Appearance: His eyes are green, as is common with Earth Benders. He is above average height for his age at 5ft 10". His body is unscared, but he has a rugged physique and is often dirty from his bending. He is reasonably sturdy in stature and is slightly muscular. He has short-medium messy hair.
Equiptment and Clothing: He usually adornes custom Earthkingdom garments, green short sleeved shirt that hang down the outer sides of the leg, with below knee height darker green shorts, and ankle bands. Prefering to go bair foot, but does have sandles for when he's not on solid ground. Along with a circular hat similar to that of the Dai Li. His most valued item however is a legband with an inscribed emerald embedded into it, which he wears on his lower left ankle, it was given to him by his grandfather on his deathbed, a reminder that to truley see, he must trust in the earth.
Pets/Mounts: Jojo his Ostrich Horse mount.
Personality: Very stubborn, but funloving and kind. He is always interested in helping others, and will go out of his way to do so. In conversation he is friendly to most, but is very capable of a serious discussion or argument. He also enjoys to hustle others to get what he wants.
Born in + Nation of Origin: Gaoling, Earth Kingdom
Current Location: Taku - before being sent out in the task force

Backstory: Born to a wealthy family, Tao was always slightly spoiled and stubborn as a child, but there was always one way he was kept respectable, learning the ways of Earthbending from his grandfather. Earthbending came naturally to Tao, but only in the physical way, having some of the best instructors money could buy. But his grandfather, noticing his arrogance, challenged the young boy to a friendly duel. He was reluctant to fight the blind old man, but a constant pestering forced him to accept. Underestimating his grandfather, who he soon learnt was a world renowned Earthbending master, caused him to be quickly crushed in the duel.

He stormed off in a rage in his defeat, running from home, and he found a cave to rest in for the night. However when he woke, the cave entrance was no longer there, and he was stuck in darkness. A couple of days went past and he had almost given up hope, before noticing a large disturbance in the cave, the noises he heard were the badgermoles creating and closing holes in the cave systems. He had learnt about them, they were completely blind yet they were the original earthbenders, using their earthbending to communicate with the ground and 'see'. For another couple of days he tried to read the ground for guidance, but his limited ability to use his feet to guide him only led him to the middle of the cave, where he decided to try to meditate, to further understand this. Later that same day during his meditation a hand rested on his shoulder, it was his grandfather.

"I understand now." Tao stated "Only the blind poses this kind of ability." His wise grandfather sat beside him and responded "You do not have to be blind to see, my child." He handed Tao some water, which was quickly drank "You must believe in the earth, and let it guide you, all living things are connected through the earth." With that his grandfather rose him to his feet as support "Now come, you need proper attention." and with that the blind man led Tao out of the Cave of Two Lovers, to receive medical attention.

Falling unconscious in his grandfathers arms halfway through the journey back, he awoke to find his parents standing over him, crying in thanks that their child was safe. and that they were sorry they did not protect him from leaving. "Mother... Father... No one but me was responsible for this" he answered. "I must apologies to you both and... grandfather Xin..." Xin Fu came to his side "You have learnt a life changing lesson, and for that I accept your apology." His parents were outraged at his grandfathers comment, until Tao burst out "You have spoiled me for long enough, though I am grateful for all you have done for me... I must request grandfather to train me how to properly earthbend." Xin Fu accepted, and Tao's true training began.

Xin Fu was a harsh master, but continued to train Tao despite the amount of stubborn outbursts he would have. Having training sessions such as hurling rocks at him while Tao was blindfolded until he got it right. Eventually Tao had learnt a great deal, but Xin Fu was gravely ill. On his deathbed he handed Tao a band with an inscribed emerald implanted, and said in a sickly tone "Let the Earth, lead your way" before finally departing. The emerald read "You do not have to be blind, to truly see."
By the age of 15 his best form of entertainment was to scam and cheat gamblers in the streets. Using abilities such as earthbending to find or adjust the stone in a game of clams or other such games with his friends. This however got him into trouble rather fast, quickly getting him apprehended by the law. He had two options, serve time in the Earth Kingdom military, or in prison. Though his family could have gotten him out of the situation, he accepted his punishment and left for Taku, to serve a defensive role there.

His abilities were fast recognized earning him respect within the division, and just after his 17th birthday, he was put into a special squad to hunt for the recently missing avatar.

Name: Nauja
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Bending/Fighting style: Waterbending
Other notes on abilities: In addition to being a capable waterbender, Nauja is a decent healer. Though when it comes to fighting, she tends to act without thinking, getting in over her head more than she'd like to admit. She also tends to rely on her waterbending too much, so if she can't use it, then she's in trouble.
Ultimate: When Nauja gets really, really pissed off, she tends to cause every water source around her to react, the bigger the source, the larger the splash. The water also tends to react to her emotions, lashing out at anyone nearby and can cause serious harm. And let's not get started on Bloodbending...
Appearance: Like the rest of her people, Nauja has darkly tanned skin and brown hair, (the latter of which she has taken to wear in a long braid) and in her case, stormy gray eyes.
Equipment and Clothing / Important items: Despite where she currently lives, Nauja still wears Earth Kingdom-style clothing in Water Tribe colors, showing her feelings towards them both. She usually wears a long-sleeved white shirt underneath a short blue vest with white trim, loose blue pants, blue shoes and bandages around her waist, as well as a necklace of shells from the Northern Water Tribe. She carries little else but a gourd of water and a satchel full of clothes and supplies.
Pets/Mounts: A pet sugar glider named Miki (rescued from a cat)
Peronality: Nauja is generally free-spirited and easy-going, always up for a laugh and a few good pranks. But she does have a bit of a temper and a strong sense of justice, when combined with her waterbending talents... can get pretty nasty, something which she is still trying to control. Other than that, Nauja is kindhearted, friendly and helpful, often going out of her way to help others.
Born in + Nation of Origin: The Northern Water Tribe
Current location: A small town in the Earth Kingdom
Backstory: Nauja was born in the great city of the Northern Water Tribe, to a healer and a water tribe soldier. From a young age, she showed skill in waterbending, so her mother began training her in the arts of healing. But her father, seeing great potential in her, trained Nauja in secret, despite the cultural taboo. When Nauja was 8, her father's superiors learned of his transgressions, forcing their small family out of the city. Eventually, they settled in a small village in the northern part of the Earth Kingdom, where Nauja's father was free to teach her waterbending skills. Nauja quickly grew used to life in the Earth Kingdom, soon coming to see it as her home. She was also exposed to new forms of bending, like the swift grace of the Airbenders and the fierce strength of the Earthbenders. Then shortly after she turned 14, Nauja got into an argument with some friends, that swiftly grew out of control, and she inadvertently caused a rain barrel to explode, severely harming her friends. Scared, Nauja ran home where she tearfully explained everything to her parents. Her concerned father decided to train her even harder in hopes of curbing her abilities. After years of intense training, Nauja feels she really has a handle on her waterbending now, and has gone off into the world to seek her fortune.

Name: Kajiya

Gender: Male

Age: 21

Bending/Fighting Style: Fire Bender/Chi-Blocking

Other notes on abilities:

As a result of his studying, Kajiya's fire bending doesn't rely as much on hard and fast strikes, and is instead a more graceful and flowing movement, allowing for more variation in the style of moves he can perform. Of course, when forced to fight, he can mix up his moves with a combination of both fire bending and fast chi-blocking strikes.

Ultimate: ??? (No idea of one at the moment.)

Appearance:

Kajiya's eyes are the expected golden colour common in most members of the Fire Nation, albeit with a slight difference that there is a small section that is an amber colour. He stands over 6ft in height with slightly broad shoulders yet a muscular build due to his years as a blacksmith, though his training in the art of chi-blocking has helped him develop his agility and acrobatic skills. Has long dark brown hair with a copper coloured tint to it that is tied in a ponytail.

Equipment and Clothing/Important Items:

As a sword smith, Kajiya carries with him a set of tools with him so he is ready to perform his craft if needed. As for clothing, for the time being he is wearing a set a traditional Fire Nation ensemble comprised mainly of dark red robes accented with yellow and gold in places accompanied by some armoured knee-pads of his own design. There is also a non-descript set of clothing bearing the marks of no one Nation in particular, though he is saving these till there is an opportunity to defect from the Fire Nation. In addition to these, Kajiya also carries a flute with which to play music.

Pets/Mounts: Akuto the Fire Ferret

Personality:

Kajiya can be a hard person to describe at times, he has the hard work ethic and dedication of someone associated with his craft; but also possesses the mentality and sagely wisdom akin to a scholar. Enjoys meditation during moments of free time, as it allows him to focus his mind and abilities whilst also being able to think more clearly on a problem.

Born In + Nation or Origin: Ember Island, Fire Nation

Current Location: Fire Nation Outpost near Taku

Biography:

Born on the resort locale of Ember Island to a father who comes from a long line of sword-smiths and from a mother who was once a high ranking officer in the Domestic Forces before an accident led to her early retirement.

Due to the distance there was between Ember Island and the mainland, when Kajiya was of proper age and had began to show signs of fire bending, most of his education was done at home on the grounds of the family's estate; this had the effect of his mind being not as rigorously moulded by the nationalistic ideology that was at the forefront of many other schools within the Fire Nation.

Aside from the standard subjects, Kajiya also practised the art of the forge, with the idea being that he'd one day become a master smith in his own right just like his father. As he grew up and entered his early teenage years, Kajiya developed an interest in the art of Chi-Blocking, having in read about it in one of the handful of history books he had access to, and saw that it could compliment fire bending well. He sought training in this technique from his grandfather, who he heard from his parents was something of a master in that particular field. Problem was that he didn't live on Ember Island with the rest of the family, so for the first time in his life, Kajiya left home and headed for the mainland.

When he arrived, Kajiya experienced something of a miniature culture shock, as the Fire Nation mainland was more militaristic than he had first thought. After meeting up with his grandfather and settling in, the two of them began to work on Kajiya's training in chi-blocking. It was hard at first, given Kajiya's slightly bulkier frame than what it was accustomed had meant his strikes weren't as fast, but he eventually developed a natural rhythm to it. (Granted, he still has a ways to go before he can perfect it.) This training has also helped develop Kajiya's flow of chi, allowing greater control over his fire bending.

Whilst staying at his grandfather's residence in the capital, Kajiya also had access to a much larger library of books, and during periods of free time away from practice, he would read deep into the many history tomes; it was here that he came across a revelation of sorts. It was through reading history of the world and that of the Avatar where Kajiya learned about how the world and everyone in it was connected metaphysically to help maintain balance.

Kajiya had heard of plans for an invasion of the Earth Kingdom from a member of the nobility when he and his grandfather had to attend an important social function; though the noble in particular referred to it as a "sharing of the Fire Nation's prosperity with the rest of the world" at the time. Whilst they had tried to cover it up with pretty sounding words; Kajiya knew that an invasion such as this would cause a great imbalance to be inflicted upon the world.

It was here that Kajiya decided he would defect from the Fire Nation in order to help maintain balance. Of course, he couldn't do it right then and there, given the severe distance and military presence that existed within the mainland would mean he'd be brutally cut down before he could do anything. Instead he would bide his time and waited patiently for the opportunity to strike.

To ensure no one would be suspicious of his loyalty to both the Nation and the Fire Lord, Kajiya decided to sign up with the military, where he could put his training and skills as a swordsmith to use. When the first assaults took place, the detachment of soldiers that Kajiya was with were sent to set up a outpost within the Earth Kingdom. During the voyage he had found a Fire Ferret that had found its way into his equipment, causing trouble in the process. For some reason Kajiya took a liking to the little furball and decided to keep him.

Name: Anish

Gender: Male

Age: 19

Bending/Fighting style: Airbending, Chakradhaari

Other notes on abilities: Anish's particular style of Airbending is much more aggressive than the traditional, evasive style as taught by the Air Nomads. Similar to Fire Benders, it relies on the use of overpowering force and lethal blows so as to secure an early victory.
Anish also incorporates the use of a Chakram [https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/d5/b7/10/d5b710bb95d0aac35016df1f12575a12.jpg] into his fighting style. With its aerofoil design uses it to supplement and enhance his attacks with Airbending, whilst also being a formidable weapons in his hands in its own right.

Ultimate: When faced with overwhelming odds or a sense of impending failure, Anish becomes overcome with a bout of manic bloodlust, a state in which he is capable of forming a localized tornado with a throw of his chakram that can devastate all its wake, with no regards to the surrounding area. This extraordinary feat requires time to build up the vortex, comes at the price of temporarily exhausting his Airbending, and often leaves his choice weapon beyond his grasp until it is retrieved.

Appearance: Relatively tall for an Airbender, Anish stands at just under six foot, with medium-length black hair that falls over his face in bangs. He has pale skin well-weathered from travelling, with true grey eyes and a scar across the bridge of his nose where he was hit by a stone as a boy. He sports the traditional colours of the Air Nomads, with a short-sleeved orange tunic tied with a yellow sash tied across his right shoulder and waist, coupled with brown pants and red knee-length split toe boots.

Equipment and Clothing / Important items: Aside from his coveted chakram, Anish also carries a glider for transportation, as well as a monk-style straw hat which he wears to avoid prying eyes.

Personality: Used to being alone, Anish is aloof to most who know him, adopting a haughty persona when talking to those he considers as below him. He dislikes getting involved in petty squabbles and is incredibly stubborn regarding most matters, however once he dedicates himself to a task he will direct all of his effort until it is accomplished. He is incredibly loyal to friends, uncharacteristically kind to children, and partial to gambling of any and all sorts.

Born in + Nation of Origin: Northern Air Temple

Current location: Taku City

Backstory: Anish was brought up in most the same way as all airbenders, raised by the Air Nomads at the Northern Air Temple and instilled with their values of pacifism and spiritual reflection. A sickly child throughout most of his youth, Anish was largely passed over by the other children in favour of others when it came to playing or working as a group. As a result of this, Anish came to regard those around him with quiet disdain, instead choosing to focus almost solely on his studies and scholarly activities rather than participating in the joyous play that the rest of his fellows incorporated into their own training.

Over time Anish proved himself to be a highly capable Airbender, showing a particular aptitude for feats of agility or finesse, as well as being seemingly adept at sensing disturbances through currents and vibrations in the air, to the point of being able to catch a fly blindfolded. However, despite his apparent skill Anish was often chided by his Elders for his temper as well as his resistance to adhere to the Nomads' pacifist ideology.

At the age of fifteen Anish had passed thirty-five of the tiers of Airbending when the Temple was visited by a travelling merchant by the name of Xu. The merchant explained how his caravan had been beset by bandits who had ambushed them at a mountain pass not two miles from here. He ashamedly recounted of how he ran at the first sign of trouble with as many wares he could carry. Presuming that the rest of his company were now dead he recalled rumours that the Air Nomads made a temple within the northern mountains their home, and that if he could make it there he might find some respite.

Despite the man's gruff and cowardly nature, the monks were gracious in their hospitality of the traveler, giving him food and lodging until he had recuperated. Anish, curious of life outside the temple, grew fond of the traveler, who often recounted tales of far-away cities and the wonders of boundless freedom. Anish was especially intrigued about the people of the Fire Nation, whom Xu spoke of in both fear and wonder, that had grown to be a powerful force due to their military might.
When the time finally came for him to leave, the merchant called for the young boy, gifting him with a brass discus-like object called a "Chakram" he was told belonged to a sect of Fire Nation warriors.

Anish practiced night and day with the weapon, determined to invent a new Airbending move that incorporated its use and earn his mastery tattoos. After demonstrating his newly lethal techniques by eviscerating a statue in front of the monks, Anish urged them to eschew their peaceful ways in favour of emulating the Fire Nation, to learn and conquer through force. The Temple Elders, unable to deter Anish from his destructive path, saw fit to banish him from their order, fearful that his presence would be a corrupting influence on the rest of their students.

For years he wandered the Earth Kingdom, taking odd work where he could, eventually being discussed of in hushed tones among mercenary circles as "the monk without a master", or even sometimes affectionately known as "Wind Shear". Whilst passing through the trade city of Taku, Anish heard word of a Fire Nation advance alongside rumours that the Avatar, a young airbender from the Southern Temple, had vanished amid mysterious circumstances. Feeling a pang of regret over his past and a resurgence of values instilled in his subconscious, Anish vowed to return with the Avatar as a way to contend with his past transgressions and as part of his duty as an Air Nomad.

Name: Niatsui

Gender: Male

Age: 24

Fighting Style: Fire Bender

Notes: Has problems keeping his breath focused and can end up either having his flames be too weak or too powerful to control. Can shoot out pressurized balls of fire before quickly expanding them into a large explosion. He does possess incredible ambition however, which helps him compensate for his lack of breathing.

Ultimate: Only when Niatsui is experiencing intense fear is when his ultimate surfaces. He shoots out fire from his mouth and both arms to form a vortex of fire around him before quickly expanding the vortex to span a large radius. He can't move while doing so though. Also leaves him severely out of breath and runs the risk of cooking himself with his own flames. However it is nearly impenetrable from the outside, he is almost completely immune to outside elements.

Appearances: Short hair, 6'0 feet tall, slight stubble, Crooked nose from being broken several times, pronounced chin, shallow cheek bones, slim build but not skinny.

Equipment: Wears typical Fire Bender armor, Wears no gloves, no helmet to increase his peripheral vision, Carries a ceremonial knife but only uses it for special occasions, Carries a rope around just in case.

Pets: None.

Personality: Averse to combat, Prefers to strike when he has the upperhand, Very rarely assists others, doesn't believe in honor but knows how to fake it, Pragmatic, Loathes unnecessary cruelty, Brilliant Tactician and Politician, Friendly, and Untrustworthy.

Born in: Fire Nation Capital, Fire Nation.
Current Location: On the open sea in between the Fire Nation and Southern Air Temple.

Backstory: Niatsui was born to a strict military family within the capital. Taking pride in their honor and sense of duty they were proud soldiers of the Fire Nation. However their strict adherence to their honor meant most of them never made it very far in the ranks. Scarce few made it to be officers and their Bending skills were not spectacular. They didn't care about their ranks though so it never bothered the family, it did bother Niatsui however.

When Niatsui entered schooling he was picked on for his family's reputation as failures and his abysmal Fire Bending. He learned quickly that each of his class mates carried with them a crucial weakness he could exploit. Some class mates participated in illegal acts and he was able to blackmail them for protection, money, and any other favors. Niatsui used these experiences as stepping stones for establishing a power network quickly. He made sure to perform well academically and practiced his Fire Bending daily in order to improve as quickly as possible.

When he turned 18 he applied for the Fire Nation Navy and used his connections to quickly move up through the ranks. He sabotaged his commanding officers in order to disgrace them and take their place. Any one privy to his movements were either "encouraged" to stay quiet or were disposed of discretely. Niatsui not only helped himself gain ranks, he also helped numerous infantry men gain prestige during small skirmishes in order to gain their loyalty.

His work has gained him the admiration of his family, who think that their patience has been rewarded with immense honor. He has gained an officer's rank of Major and command of his own ship and crew. Currently he is on his way to the Southern Air Temple to assist in attacking the Air Temple when the Great Comet arrives as foretold by Fire Lord Sozin.

Name: Lupin Verd (I'm bad at coming up with names... Will change if required)

Gender: Male

Age: 20
Bending/Fighting style: Earth Bending, Shield and Sword adept

Other notes on abilities: Only extremely basic knowledge of general earth-bending techniques,
however, he comes from a long line of those who have perfected the art of using their bending to arm and armor themselves. (Fights like he's a normal soldier, instead of a bender)

Ultimate: N/A

Appearance: Short and stocky with black, buzz cut hair and brown eyes.

Equiptment and Clothing/Important items: light brown pants with a tan shirt, he also wears a bronze
amulet with a stylized fist on it. (The Riot Games fist, cause I'm original!)

Pets/Mounts: N/A

Peronality: Confident in his abilities, he is still wary when going into situations when he has
been briefed, and downright cautious when he has no information at all. While prideful, his
training allows him to keep a cool head during battles.

Born in + Nation of Origin: Family homestead 10 miles south-east of Gaoling.

Current location: Goaling Market

Backstory: Lupin comes from a line of mercenaries that have done everything from espionage to front-line combat. While not widely known, they are known within certain circles as exceptional assets, for the right price. As family comes and goes, they spread across the world, creating small homesteads that are self-sustaining during times when jobs are hard to come by. At these homesteads, which are big enough to to house a few families, and are also where the children are trained in the arts of war when they turn ten. The training, though quite extensive, starts small and grows as the child does.

Lately there have been whispers that war may be coming, so his father has sent him out look into it. Starting in Gaoling, he hopes the merchants have heard some of these rumors as well. Once he has learned something solid, he'll report back tot he family. After all, information is just as valuable as soldiers when it comes to winning a battle.

Tell me if it's acceptable in the timeframe.
An earth kingdom protégé-swordsman turned hermit monk, who after losing his legs to a fire-bender assassin going after the king of Ba-Sing-Se becomes an experiment catried by his father and his collegues, where they transplant him with crude metal legs to carry him along. Disgusted by his own deformaty and torn between the past and the future the boy turns to Taoist and Zen principles to calm himself and flee his everlasting pain. Ot worked out well until one night he came to visit his father, failed to stop his death due to his legs malfunctioning and turned again to a cripple. From there he came down to the bottle and became a joke. The next royal physician, fascinated by the work of his predecessor offered to restore his legs if he returns to the service of the king.

Why would he go after the avatar? Because he's told to.

Ok, this is what I got so far, lemme know if I need to change anything:

Why would he go after the avatar? Because he's told to.
Well as far as prosthetics go, the combustion bender in the first series had perfectly working metal prosthetics, so having more crude or experimental ones makes good sense. If he turns to Taoist and Zen principles, perhaps he hung out with the air nomads for a little while? As I can't see him learning them from many other nations.
Also maybe give him a drive to find the avatar, perhaps to regain his honour or redeem himself.
Would his malfunctioning legs become a factor into the rp? As this may create some interesting situations and character development.

Don't make her mad, got it :D

I like the character, and can't see anything wrong with it so far.

I tried.
[spoiler='Iron' Nan]

Name: 'Iron' Nan

Gender: M

Age: 30

Bending/Fighting style: Kenjutsu, Naginatajutsu, Jujitsu.

Other notes on abilities: Nan carries an o-wakazishi and a Naginata. His fighting style relies on his swordsmanship, skill with a Naginata and his martial arts. His fighting style is free-styled - crude, fast and brutal. He incorporates more legs than is needed for a proper swordsman for the reason they can't be sliced off as easily since they've already been cut.

Inside his mechanical legs are chambers for his collection of liquor flasks, a handful of equipment for the wild such as flintstones and a whole array of sparky fireworks and firebombs.

Ultimate: Said to have made a hole in the walls of Ba-Sing-Se, Nan's leg-turned-rocket launcher is his last ditch effort in completely wrecking an armored...anything.

Appearance: 1.9 meters on his metal legs, white skinned, brown eyes, brown hair - an ordinary person if not for his freakish height and metal legs.

Nan wears traditional monk's robes in earth kingdom colors of green and brown, and also a pair of pants to hide what is carrying him.

Equiptment and Clothing / Important items: Two artificial legs.
A good sword.
A wicked naginata.
A bunch of fireworks.
Lots of rum.
A rocket-launcher.

Pets/Mounts: A raven.

Peronality: It used to be honor that made Nan tick but after what he had been through the drink royted away his pride and left a core of brutality, cynicism and hatred. He's quite the happy-drunk, and since he's dru k for the most part he won't be much trouble unless you piss him off.

Born in + Nation of Origin: Born in Ba-Sing-Se in the earth kingdom.

Current location:Ba-Sing-Se.

Backstory: Nan was a bastard boy of a wealthy lord and scientist in the service of the king of Ba-Sing-Se. He was trained to be one of the king's guard since he was a boy to be close to his father and not end up as a feast for gutter rats.

At the age of twenty he defeated the lieutenant of the guard in combat and was accepted into the service. It was only a season afterwards that a fire nation assassin was caught by him and a struggle ensued, where Nan who could not bend was consuned by fire. Saved by a water tribesman in the service of the king, Nan became his father's own obsession. He devoted his timw to build him new legs to walk upon, and soon he walked again and became an abomination.

Torn between his love, his duty and his hated of what he became and could never be again. He left the capital for the mountains and found there a hermit to teach him how to live with himself. Five years later he returned as a monk and a man reborn. He came back to greet his father and make amends-he came just in time to see him murdered by an assassin. He could not stop the kille since his legs have rusted away into pieces of crude iron and collapsed ubder his weight, and the son dragged himself to his father bleeding on the floor in his last hour.

From there everything turned sour. Nan took to the drink and begged for coin during the day. It was only for his father's successor in his position that took interest in his work that he did not remain there. A deal was struck - Nan got his new legs, and he would be bound by oath to the king and his bidding.

This is more of a time of blasting jelly and maybe some fire nation explosives (there are a lot of non-firebending fire nation soldiers who use these in 'the last airbender', so 100 years prior to that perhaps they are still around).
Also it might be better if he were younger, as the aim is that although the characters are powerful, they are not masters of their abilities.
Also your ultimate should be something used very rarely, as in something that you can't really control the occurrence of, that's why I mentioned it could perhaps be brought on by a certain: emotion, situation, or climate, ect..

So his weapon is also earthbent? Wouldn't it be more of a club then? Or does he form some sort of sharp earth sword?
Also for the second part of your bio, what do you mean by rumors? Do you mean the rumors of your own people who live near the city?

One of the main things though, is you kind of need to generate a reason for why your character would leave his current position, because if it's just for hired pay, I'm not sure how I would implement that.

.I'm not a bender. I can't go into avatar state or something like that. I'll scrap the rocket launcher, I suspected it won't pass.

The ultimate sounds like something I won't be using at all. I don't know what a non bender could have.

It's not something that you need to have, just a little extra to make your character a bit unique skillwise.
It can also be something like an enhanced state, not just an enhanced bending ability thing.
But again, if you don't want one, you don't have to make one just to fill the gap.

It has an edge, though you won't be splitting any hairs with it. Being made of stone, the blade will be heavy enough that the force behind it will do the cutting. They won't be invulnerable either, if I end up hitting a good chunk of plate or some equivalent object they'll break. Same for the shield.

And woops, looks like I accidentally deleted a part of it with realizing. I should probably also mention that, while honorable, his family also has connections to the seedier part of the world.
