Avatar? That show was awesome! Oh, wait...

But seriously, I'm not expecting it to blow me away, but I'm planning to see it this Friday.

That review used the term "splenetic internet fanboy types who?ve apparently made their minds up about Avatar before seeing it" - sound familiar at all? :p
Actually, the implications with that line were focused on the people who are have negative opinions about the movie - the "it's just Fern Gully/Dances With Wolves in space" types. Yes, I'm a splenetic internet fanboy of a type - it just isn't the sort that they're addressing in this review.

And yes, there are going to be people who bash the film for some of the more questionable hippie-style sentiments in the film, but then, I could hardly blame them for that.
I've heard the "Dances with Wolves" theory as well, which baffles me in a way, as such as I don't see the point in bringing that up. I can see where they are coming from with it - character X is sent in to "infiltrate", shall we say, a particular group, be they native Americans or blue skinned aliens. and instead of being against them ends up sympathising with their cause. Again, hardly a concept unique to one particular story.

By that same token, we may as well just refer to The Last Samurai as "Dances with Wolves in Japan" or "Dances with Wolves with Samurai"...

Also, in relation to jojoemon's post: ecopunk - let's seriously hope nobody actually decides to go there.

I think it looks good. Even if it should be full of clichés, well, you could always say that of James Cameron. You can make a classic with clichés, if everything is in the right spirit, well-structured and so on.

After seeing Roger Ebert's review of it, I'm pumped to see it.

At first I thought it was gonna suck. Hard. But all the reviews are very positive so I'll give it a try.

I'm looking forward to it. I heard that it was pretty good and if nothing else it should be fun to watch, right? Also, there is no way it could be as good as T2. Absolutely not. Terminator 2 was Cameron's best movie and it will always be that way.

I'll watch it but I think I'm still gonna be wondering why they where fighting in the first place. For the native peoples, its your planet, do you not have anywhere else to go? For the humans, ITS A PLANET, you dont need to take the whole thing to build your giant robots of mass destruction (like you did with earth apparently).

Not really that psyched for it. Then again, very few movies have peaked my intrest these past couple of months so I wouldn't be surprised if I saw it and ended up liking.
IGN.com gave it 4 and a half Stars out of 5 and called it one of the greatest films he had ever seen, that combined with the fact that the man responsible for it is also responsible for Titanic and Terminator 2 means it could easily be worth checking out.
Don't get me wrong, I'll proably see it one of these days when there's nothing better playing and I'm quite aware of the directors record. The story of the film never really interested me.

Whatever trace of credibility Cameron had it was terminated; pardon the pun, the moment he finished editing Titanic.
But I suppose I'll see Smurfahontas sooner or later. One must keep an open mind, see.

I'm going to see it this Saturday, with my brother and uncle. It looks good, so it should be good...
It had better be good, 'cos I'm sick of things being overhyped...
