So with the dark tidings and the start of Armageddon where almost everyone got a pub club upgrade, we also seem to have gotten an influx of vanishing avatars!

So, Escapists who were affected (and anyone else really) have you taken this opportunity to get a fresh new avatar? Do you miss your old avatars (or those of others)? Is it weird to see so many blank faces? And if you got a new one, where's it from and why!


My new avatar, like my old one, if from Yuri Kuma Arashi. I decided to go for Ginko instead of Lulu this time

I am sticking with my old Avatar, as I always have and always will. Recognition is key, I think.

I am missing some peoples Avatars though, simply because that's how I recognize most people. Now I need to do a name check. Ick.

Well, I haven't been able to upload a darn thing. My previous avatar blanked out and nothing apart from the Escapist's own collection of avatars stick. All I'm getting is... well, what you're seeing. I hope whatever it is gets fixed soon. And I'd like to know why some don't have this problem at all.

EDIT. Apparently it's coming across fine for others. I'm still just getting the broken image though.

I change my avatar often enough that I might as well stick to the one I had before the purge, as I'll likely change next month. Kelly Clarkson's still looking dramatic in this with pretty colours which satisfies me.

If anything, people having blank avatars lets me see their posts with fresh eyes. I think I've come to get a bit of bias when I recognise who's posting it (and I rarely read names unless I'm quoting).

OT: I have been a PubClubber for a few years now so I was unaffected by the change. I have not and have no intention of changing avatars for my avatar is already perfect in every way.

Well, same snake, different colors. I made a mess of 'em- Emerald Tree Boa, St. Paddy's Day Special, Coral Snake, Hallowe'en Spooktacular... but here I had always just had my default snake.

I can't find him anymore.

Have you tried clicking the profile image in the top right corner (next to the messages box)? That seemed to have fixed it for me.

Most stuff like that can be fixed by some session refression - log out, clear your cache and log back in, then set the new avatar and give it a few minutes to update.

I was informed that mine is now visible despite me not being able to see it myself. I'm pretty sure it could still work for non-pubclub, but I wanted to save this one for after my leave from the internet in the upcoming months when the lab coat is more applicable to what I'd be doing. Was actually planning something different for March if the competition was up, but since that's not happening, I kept my Pokemon inspired one until this moment.

If anyone wants to retrieve their old avatar, try looking up your profile on the wayback machine. Just enter the url of your profile page into the search. Spaces are +'s though. So mine would be http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/Drathnoxis

There should be an archive of your profile at several points in time, including your profile picture. It'll be 80x80 though.

Same character,different avatar.

I mean i'm not someone that is really know on the forums at all cause all i do is occasionally post but after awhile i decided on a theme of using a specific character, and im going to stick with that. So yeah i used this as a excuse to change it, mainly because i couldn't find my old one easy.

I don't have a copy of my old one, so if it's gone, it's gone (and I quite liked the little southpark version of me with a 1up shirt - the same logo I have embossed on my shoulder....ooh, that could make an interesting new avatar).

I do dislike it when they change though, I get used to associating avatars with posts and don't really read the names, so it's almost like a friend changing their face, never sure if it's really them below or an axe murderer assuming their identity..
