Hey all, I've been playing the AvP demo on LIVE for the last week or so and absolutly love it, and was wondering what other people who've played it thought about it. As someone who never played the originals on PC back in 1998 etc, how does it compare to those, and is anything drastically different (other than the visuals obviously)?

There are some pretty cool things I've found out for myself while playing it, like when being an Alien you can smash the lighting in maps to make things drastically harder for human players to kill/spot you, and of course anyone who's played it knows the "grab" and Trophy kills are brutally awesome.

tl;dr, What do you think of the game demo so far? Favorite race to play as? Play style (as in are you stealthy and calculatory or run'n'gun)?

For me I just can't go past the Xenomorph. Running around looking for people and trying to get behind them is great fun and quite a good challenge (as long as you're not prone to vertigo).

My only complaint so far with the game is the Predator throwing disk. It just seems to me a little overpowered, considering it's a one shot kill that bounces off walls and returns back to it's owner, so if you manage to dodge it the first time, there is a very good chance it will come back and hit you from behind anyway.

Anyway, I'd like to know what other peoples impressions are. Go! =)

The controls on the 360 really screwed me up. I couldnt realyl play because they were so awkward (imho)

Im gonna wait until the main game comes out and see if i can change that stuff up

At first I was the same, but you get used to it surprisingly quickly. Try an Alien first and then maybe a human to get the basics before tackling the Predator's reins, as they are quite a fiddly race to use, but equally dangerous if used correctly. As you say, the full game will make things easier since you will probably be able to change the controls a bit, as well as there being 3 seperate SP campaigns to practice in.

Still, although the controls are quite different at first, they do become instinctive and are quite sensibly placed.

The controls I picked up during the loading sreen were how to shoot, thats all I needed. My only complaint is that on the PS3 there is a really long wait to join a match. Everything else is awesome. I found out something worse than snipers the other day, fucking Aliens that trophy kill you when you least suspect it.

Predators FTW!

Hahaha yeah. My personal favorite is the Alien one where you grab the Human from behind, wave the tail in their face as if to say "yep, you betcha" and then cut their head off with it. The dawning realisation on their faces is priceless.

BTW: Sorry for apparently stealing your thread idea S.R.S. <3 ?

Actually kinda lame. Some controls feel over complicated. And the Marines kill everything if they see it.

It just doesnt work on consoles, I played both and the console versions make being Alien/Predator incredibly confusing, and marine owns all, PC on the other hand is much better, with all the species much better balanced as the alien requires quick movement and split second turning, which a console just can't provide, although I find melee on the console version is better.

I also found the Predator weapons just a bit over-powered, with like you said, the throwing disk being hard to dodge and the plasma cannon being constantly spammed at you.

Played the demo a few times on PC. shows promise but there is a lot of little things that I felt were needed and might just be a make a break in me buying the game, if they decide to fix them or not.

Cheers for comments. I'm actually tempted to go out and try and buy the original to see the differences, but for the most part I love the consol version, and the controls are fine for me. All I needed to do was turn up the turning sensitivity after a few fights in which my opponent got behind me while I was stunned, and to me at least the Marines are relativly easy to get away from by darting down a corridor. Besides, if you're playing an alien or predator and you're just running around in the middle of a big empty room, then that's a fundamental play style flaw.

I agree Marine weaponry is very powerful, but considering that they have such limited vision, and are totally reliant on a fickle motion scanner, I think that it's well justified. Combining this point with the ability to take out the lights makes hunting humans quite good fun if you play your cards right and don't make frontal assaults.

EDIT: As an alien even frontal assaults are possible with good timing. Just leap at someone using focus mode, follow with a slash, and they usually die within 2 seconds if they don't bring up their guard.

I found the game clunky and unresponsive on my console (only played alien.) I thought the level was difficult to navigate and see in. I know you can see people/predators through walls like they've just had a healthy bowl of ready brek but thats niether here nor there. I found that if marine/predator saw me for an instant at range I'd shortly die after. Damn that predator one-hit-kill disc.

I'm really dissapointed with the game I was expecting a lot more from it. I will buy the game though as soon as it comes out, just to get the flavour of a newly born multiplayer. If I enjoy it remains to be seen.

Played in on xbox and it was like trying to turn a tank in a paddaling pool controls are not very good at all and the level itself look like it has been over done maybe they should have a single player demo as this just ruined it for me. Everyone also seams to be on speed as when you run its like you have a firework up your a***

So far it look like the Aliens have amazing speed and dexterity, but are let down by their close range fighting style. The predators are packing some amazing firepower and are built like a brick shithouse, but will be let down by their comparative sluggishness. The Maries will be good all rounders who will have the most gadgets and versatility with weaponry.

Fun Fact: This game qualified as an R 18+ title in the UK, but is being released UNEDITED AND UNCUT as an MA15+ here. What do you say to that Micheal Atkinson? R 18+ games slipping through as MA15+ games is happening and AvP is the proof.

I've only played the Alien and it was pretty awesome. Runing around on the ceiling and everything. I love how it kinda zooms out so you can see its mouth. The whole time I was just imagining how scary it would look from someone else's point of view.

I agree about the predators being over-powered. Its accurate to the movies though so I dunno what they can do about it. The predator was always the one that fucked the most people up. If people get better at the game I think it'll work itself out some.

To tell the truth, it looks and plays as if it was a high-gloss Counter Strike mod. Not just because there WAS an AvP CS:Source mod, of course. Even the special kills got boring after...twice.

I don't like it much to be honest. The controls feel sluggish and combat is frustrating. I only ever seem to end up an Alien and combat can be described as masking quick attack while jumping around and that ain't very funny. Obviously that isn't the best way to go about things but it seems to work most of the time and that's what everyone else does. I don't get heavy attack either, by the time it takes you to attack you could probably have done a couple of quick and dealt the same damage without leaving yourself open or just grabbed the ************. The grabs never really entertained me, they're kind of cool I guess but nothing special, personally I found the chainsaw/curb stomps in Gears of War to be better. Plus it totally fucks up stealth. You can sneak around like an invisible guy or jump out of the wall to get someone but as soon as you do your stuck there for a period of time while someone else grabs you. I've seen massive chains of people just grabbing each other and it was kind of lame. You mostly find people by themselves, mostly, but people still do it in group battles. It's an instant kill button so why not? You die but you get a kill and it's better than dying without that kill.

The grabs would would work better in a team based gametype, people would be in groups so it wouldn't be overused but could work as an awesome way to disrupt a team and take off stragglers of the main group. The demo is only FFA which I don't think works well in this game, I want a group of marines fighting a couple of predators. The predators are stronger but the marines have their numbers. Aliens have larger numbers but are a bit weaker and have no range. It would have been great if to win you had to rely on your abilities and team but instead you just around and hit light attack and grab.

I was expecting a L4D kind of experience but instead I got a game TF2 in which everyone plays as a Scout or a Spy and only melee weapons are allowed. Fun for five minutes but in the end not impressive. If a demo is supposed to be the best, I'd hate to think what the worst in this game is.

Your playing the bug wrong then - Hit and run if it's chaotic chip damage sprint a loop come back in from behind and finish with a tail.

And the maps are supposed to be difficult and dark - This isn't sunny Baghdad or snowy Russia here, would ruin the feel if it was ;)

Preds have always been op'd imo, but thankfully that disc has been toned down (or at they don't seem to be as evil as previous versions). Though Caster spamming is only good so long as your whoring a power node, which means you'll end up getting ganked when your re-charging...Good news is that they bleed *cookie for the reference*.

Think people have been playing too many vanilla fps and not enough classic/avp2!

Can't wait for this game \o/

Anyway back too work...

Haven't played it, but since I'm a strictly single player gamer, I'm hoping it has a good campaign mode.
