I think FUCK is "Fornication under Consent of the King. Had something to do with the limited legalization of prostitution in the Renaissance or something.

SHIT: Ship High In Transit was a label stamped on perishable food items like tea and rice that were shipped via boat, or so I recall.

Those are both false etymologies, people trying to create an acronym from those words (or a backronym as I like to call it).

Shit and fuck, and their equivalents have existed in most languages for thousands of years.

I always thought it was from the Old English for "to strike". I'm not sure acronyms were in common usage when that word became popular, since the vast majority of the populace were illiterate, but I could be wrong. If you find out what it was, I'd love to know.

My favorite is GERD (rhymes with turd). Stands for GastroEsophageal reflux disease.
Followed by CABG (prounounced "cabbage"). Stands for Coronary Artery Bypass Graft.

This isn't a list of acronyms, it's a list of initialisms.

Acronyms are pronounced as words (NASA, laser, radio), while in initialisms that aren't acronyms, every letter is pronounced for itself (DVD, CD, LSD).

LOL and COD CAN be acronyms (depending on how you pronounce them). PC and MGS aren't acronyms.
