I don't know about you, but recently looking back at some of the cartoons I watched as a kid, I realize how awesome a medium it really is, and how there were some genuinely awesome toons back then. I recall Freakazoid, Megas XLR, Batman: The Animated Series, Earthworm Jim, the Tick, Gargoyles, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and more, but something I keep coming back to is Genndy Tartakovsky's works.

Remember Dexter's Lab? I loved that show when I was a kid. Found it hilarious.
Recall that 2D Star Wars: Clone Wars cartoon? Before the crappy CGI one with Ahsoka? Before Revenge of the Sith came out? Where Grievous was one of the creepiest villains imaginable, soaked in atmosphere in pacing instead of a wheezing buffoon who caught outdone by Obi-Wan in a few minutes? Where Mace Windu took out a battalion of Super Battle Droids with his Bare Fucking Hands? Remember how it was pretty much the best thing to come out of the Prequel trilogy?

Well I do, but most of all I remember Samurai Jack. I loved Samurai Jack as a kid. I think it was pretty much my favourite thing on TV. It was a show about a Samurai in a sci-fi dystopia ruled by a Japanese Shape shifting master of evil, filled with evil alien robots or vikings or pigs or whatever the hell you want. Drenched in ambience, the show didn't take itself too seriously and remained light-hearted, but still being very dramatic and profound.

I vividly remember being up at a time I wasn't supposed to be up at and seeing this show and just being spellbound by the weird, fantastic, imperfect world I saw. Sometimes it creeped me out, too, but then that was cool too, because nothing could freak me out like that show.

Since then I've really respected Genndy Tartakovsky and his works, and I was wondering if anyone else shared my love for that stuff.

Anywho, on to the discussion material: What shows do you remember watching? I'm only a teenager, so I'm sure there are those who remember much older 'toons than the ones I mentioned.

True that, if not two. On that day he really became the Chuck Norris of Star Wars.

Johnny Bravo was a fucking bad-ass!
Pretty much everything on cartoon network was good back then.
I remember Loony Toons and Invader Zim as well...
Besides that a lot of anime.

Same as you, plus:

Les Schtroumpfs (sorry, much more fun to say than the more common English 'Smurf')
Goldorak
Albator.

Granted, the last two are French localizations of classic anime series Grendizer & Captain Harlock, but hey that's how I grew up knowing them.

Also: Y No Powerpuff Girls mention so far? I would have LOVED to be a kid watching that series!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The painful old 90's one where everything could be fixed with pizza and saying "cowabunga!". Oh and how the hell has nobody mentioned Cow and Chicken and the Angry Beavers?

The Tick, Gargoyles, Animaniacs (and by Extension, Freakazoid), Hysteria! was totally awesome, I used to love the X-Men: Evolution's first season or three. Johnny Quest was okay, but not as awesome as the ones above. Ooh! And Jackie Chan Adventures! Hooray NetFlix for streaming that. =D
