Awful Characters Find Their Way Into ME3

*Mass Effect SPOILERS to follow*

Alright, so I was just on the Mass Effect wikia, as after watching a friend play Arrival, I was curious as to what was known about potential party members in ME3. After several paragraphs of perusing I came upon this frightening detail: Both Kaiden and Ashley can be recruited.

Really? I mean, honestly. For starters, it's one thing to recycle characters (especially those that PS3 players will not have much insight into) from older titles. But it's a completely different story when you include the emo Kaiden, who never ceased to complain about his bio-implants, and the disturbingly racist/xenophobic Ashley (who has likely formed the galactic equivalent of the KKK since we last left her).

In fact, my only moral struggle in Mass Effect 1 was deciding if I was a bad person for wanting to abandon both of them on that planet (whose name escapes me).

Look, I get that it's difficult to bring in characters from ME2, based on the fact that (again, correct me if I'm wrong) you could have killed most/all of them off at the conclusion of the title. Considering how likable some of these individuals were, this might have been a mistake. I get the whole "this game has consequences" emphasis, but an unintended one might have been preventing any of these characters from joining your party in ME3.

Thoughts? Do you think characters from ME2 will be included? If so, who should be? Also, what do you think about the inclusions mentioned above from ME1?

Your confusing having any negative motional baggage with being emo.
Your confusing being moderately distrustful of other species because other species tried to blow up a few of your planets with xenophobic.
So long as Jack, Samara, and Liara stay away things are fine. (Why is every Asari either evil or personality-deficient?)

Whether you like them or not, they were a huge part of Mass Effect 1, being potential romances. They were bound to return with a bigger part in 3.

So basically, if you have that much of a problem with it and if it'll REALLY ruin your Mass Effect 3 experience, don't buy the game. But I'm pretty sure that wouldn't be the smartest move in the galaxy.

This probably the reason they weren't recruitable in ME2 - they wanted at least one of them alive for canon - same with Liara.

I hated those two as well. But then again, I'll just ditch them on the Normandy and rock out with Garrus and Wrex all game. Wow, it is like the first one.

Well, I understand not having both Jack and Kaiden in ME3, due to some very less-than-subtle similarities. Perhaps I was a bit hyperbolic in my descriptions of Kaiden and Ashley, but I genuinely didn't enjoy the presence of either in Mass Effect, Ashely moreso than Kaiden. No amount of conversation or logic seemed to pry her away from her convictions.

So characters returning to continue their unfinished story arc is lazily reusing them now? News to me. Anyway, it seems your just exaggerating all the problems you saw into what's either trolling or ignorance. Can't tell which.

They're just there to have breasts.

And I have nothing to add to Souplex here's argument. You just seem ready to criticize them for no reason.

Bah. As long as I have Garrus, Tali, and possibly Wrex, I am fine.

I guess part of me was just really looking forward to the return of ME2 characters and/or the implementation of new characters, and I'm seriously wondering how possible this is when it seems that we've already filled half a roster with old characters.

Kaiden had a fucked up childhood(taken from his parents, forced into a place to learn his powers), and your surprised he has issues? Anybody would have issues if they went through what he did.

Ashley's grandfather is the only human to surrender to aliens. As a result she's been basically shafted most of the time. Its perfectly normal and human to harbor resentment towards aliens because of this. She doesn't hate them all with the fiery passion you seem to think she does. In fact, she hates Cerberus more, because they're far more extreme towards them. And after talking to you, she's far more accepting of aliens.

They're actually the most human characters in the game.

This is why they need to lose Tali and Garrus. I like them and all, but we need to give other Turians and Quarians a chance, and Bioware seems to have a one of each type of minority rule.

You might be opposed to it, but if you played both titles you should have seen Shepard returning to either the Alliance or Council and recruiting his old human teammate coming. Not to mention the fact that BioWare hinted that cheating on your old squeeze from Mass Effect might have some effects in Mass Effect 3. I was fully expecting Ashly or Kaiden to not only be recruitable but for it to transpire that he/she became a Specter as well, or tasked by the Alliance to hunt down Shepard. There have been enough significant moral choices that i'm beginning to think that one way or another BioWare will shoehorn into ME3 without the need to import saves, kind of like what they did with the PS3 ME2.

Considering on how both Tali and Garrus could die at the conclusion of ME2, I'm guessing neither will be playable in ME3. Unless Bioware intends on completely designing two characters that have the potential of not even being in one's party in ME3.

So far Bioware's really only been "down" with creating "either/or" scenarios like Kaiden and Ashley.

Made funnier by the fact that they're actually... heh, yeah.

I actually liked Ash and Kaiden and was bummed they didn't play a larger role in 2.
I'm looking forward to fighting alongside the remaining alliance party member.

i think they plan to have any character that didn't die at the end of me2 as available in me3 or they plan to draw from a hat and add the ones they draw in me3

They should bring all of them. But that is on a wonderful world.

In this world, well, if this is the same people that made 1 and 2 we are talking about, then they know what the heck they are doing, I suppose. Just bring in anything.

They should bring back Wrex, best character I've seen in years. And some way to make Saren return as a zombie or something.
