Here's an idea: let's have both Jack and Kaiden in ME3. At least they'd have something to talk about, amiright?

I guess part of me was just really looking forward to the return of ME2 characters and/or the implementation of new characters, and I'm seriously wondering how possible this is when it seems that we've already filled half a roster with old characters.
This is why they need to lose Tali and Garrus. I like them and all, but we need to give other Turians and Quarians a chance, and Bioware seems to have a one of each type of minority rule.
Considering on how both Tali and Garrus could die at the conclusion of ME2, I'm guessing neither will be playable in ME3. Unless Bioware intends on completely designing two characters that have the potential of not even being in one's party in ME3.

So far Bioware's really only been "down" with creating "either/or" scenarios like Kaiden and Ashley.
But they also have Legion and Mordin who were the best teammates in 2 as teammates in 3. I approve of this. Unless they replace Legion with another special Geth Mobile Platform designed to house many more programs than normal, and Mordin with the nephew he talked aboot if he dies... Besides, Geth can't die. They all have FTL comms on their back to wire themselves back to the hub if their mobile platform is destroyed, so Legion would come back as Legion.

Considering that one of the missions in the game involved a group of L2 biotics kidnapping a politican and holding him at gunpoint demanding compensation, Kaidan's whining was fairly low key.

I didn't find it particularly offensive, myself. He basically told his life story, which unfortunately involved massive corporate abuse and an asshole Turian. He wasn't sad about it, he'd pretty much got over it, but hey.. you asked.

Ashley.. yeah, she's not the most tolerant, but she's hardly a racist. She despises Terra Firma for being racist.

What she is is a realist, she knows aliens will always put their own interests before those of humans, so she feels its important for humans to look out for themselves.

She's also pretty new to dealing with alien species, as she's been stuck planet-side for her entire career, and it shows. Neither of those things make her racist.

I really don't think that works. Maybe it is on the Geth homeworlds (I doubt it, it seems to take several seconds if not minutes to upload to a mobile platform) but the mere fact that they needed to cram a whole bunch of Geth into legion's platform shows that he was designed to operate independently. Geth form local networks with the other Geth in the vicinity or on the same server, they're not a vast galaxy-spanning hive mind.

*facepalm* I completely forgot about the fact that they've already said Mordin and Legion would/could be in ME3, you're absolutely right, Souplex. While I wouldn't mind the addition of Miranda (huge Chuck/Yvonne Strahovski fan here) or Jack (not certain why she doesn't totally bother me when Kaiden did) I think those are the best characters to retain from ME2. Mordin was absolutely entertaining (even though I barely had him in my party) and actually having a Geth as a party member was one of the best twists of ME2.

I agree entirely. They were both pricks, and I was more than happy to let Kaiden die, and laughed in Ash's face when she got all angsty in ME2.

They'll be there, but if they're not a needed recruitment, they can get fucked.
Thirded. The few minutes I spent in the company of Ashley in ME2 was more than I would have wanted. I'd rather have Jack back in my team than that narrow minded goat. If we are forced to have her back in ME3, they better give us the opportunity to give her a good smack around the chops. Just imagine that she's an annoying Citabdel news reporter.

I can guarantee you that isn't why.

Bioware has already shown that their canon is more important than what you do in your save file and are willing to resurrect dead characters to tell the story their way.

Aww. Is someone sad about Dragon Age?

And Garrus will be a squad member if he survived the suicide mission. Along with a couple others. The word 'if' is the one you want to pay attention to.

I can't wait for this scene in ME3:

Cerebrus Official: Good news Shepard, we were able to use Project Lazarus to bring back [ insert party members X, Y, and Z].

Shepard: But what about [insert party members A, B, and C]?

Cerebrus Official: Oh, we tried. It didn't work on them.

Shepard: Really? Because, I mean, I really don't see why it would have posed a problem.

Cerebrus Official: Umm...the machine, it, uh...it broke. Or something. You wouldn't understand. Just know that you'll never be able to resume your torrid love affair with Tali.

Shepard: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

So you're saying that Bioware is re-using characters that had a huge--possibly "love interest" huge--role in the first game? That is not reusing characters, that is continuing with important and very relevant characters. Seriously, this is not a lack of creativity, it's how things should be.

Secondly, you're entirely missing the point of both Ashley and Kaiden. Kaiden had emotional baggage, that simply does not mean he's emo. It means he's a good character. If that stuff happened to you, just try going about your daily life without being affected by it at all. Seriously.

Ashley had a character journey. Everyone who complains about her being racist obviously didn't talk to her throughout the game, because racism was her character flaw that was changed over the course of the game. By the time the game was done, if you kept talking to her, and especially if you pursued a romantic relationship with her, her racism stopped. So don't go bashing a legitimate character journey just because you were too lazy to pursue said character's story.

I'm sorry, but this is ridiculous. They are important characters that have every right and reason to be back in Mass Effect 3, and your complaints about them are kind of inane.

1. Its not reusing, its continuation. Its the same thing just about every single series in gaming does. If they always dropped every squad member, I would be pissed.

2. I am tired of saying this, Distrustful =/= Racist. If you look beyond just the fact that she does not trust the other races to much you will actually see that the reason for it is not that bad. If you also talked to her on Horizen she straight up says that she is not the biggest fan of aliens but Cerberus was extremists. How about you think about something before you go off the deep end?

i always knew this day would come...the day i would actually have to defend kaiden...

alright...i can do this...no i cant. but for their faults, both kaiden and ashley are alot more believable characters than probably anyone from ME2. why the hell shouldnt love interests from the first game be included? ME3 is what the whole damn series has been building up to, where apparently all your decisions and events throughout 1 and 2 come to fruition, and you want to leave out 2 important characters because it leaves less room for super model cerberus agents and psychotic prisoners?

Actually, no. Legion's dying words are "no carrier", repeated several times, meaning that he's out of range of the hub.

to be honest, i would love to see every character possible return. i realize this would be difficult to do. I say this because when i met tali on freedom's progress i was overjoyed to see my favorite character return to the game. Then even more overjoyed when i discovered she could be recruited later in.
Same with Garrus, finding out what he was doing for the past 2 years was exciting to see him return and the relationship that they had before evolved and more awesome.
so basically this is what it think:
Keep:
Mordin Solus
Tali vas Normandy/Neema
Garrus
Kusami
Grunt/wrex
Ashley (not kaiden)
Liara
Legion

everybody else i dont really care...well maybe jack.

But FTL comms don't work that way... Quantum entanglement particles reflect eachother's state regardless of the distance. So long as both comms are online, Legion should be peachy. That's why you can communicate while moving faster than light.

Our perception of characters in a very subjective thing. I didn't like Ashley at first either, but after having her around more on a subsequent playthrough I did realize she's actually quite well-written and complex, with a variety of redeeming character traits underneath her rather short-tempered, conservative exterior. She is a balanced character with all kinds of motivations and opinions--like all of the ME teammates, basically.

Just because you don't like a character doesn't make them an "awful" character. Personally I didn't care for Liara, Tali or Thane, but I understand why other people totally love them.
