To be honest, Both Kaiden and Ashley had reason to be the way they were.

Ashley's grandfather was the only Human ever to surrender to an alien species, because of that she often got back-water and low-ladder jobs in the Alliance Military.

Kaiden has a sub-par bio-amp that constantly causes him pain, saying he is emo about it is like telling a cancer patient that they should just shut up and move on in life.

That being said, I saved everyone in all of my ME 2 playthroughs, so Im not exactly worried about who will and wont be in ME 3. But personally, I hope Tali, Legion, Thane, Garrus and Zaeed all make a return.

what, no Liara? sorry, but Im nearly 100% sure Bioware will have her in Mass Effect 3.
She's busy being the Shadow Broker.

more reason why she'll return given you put her there so she'll most likely be a contact or something

I'm fine with Kaidan/Ashley being in the game.

I mean, I had nothing to do with them in the first one, but that doesn't stop them from being options for another encounter.

Personally, I'm hoping that I never have to deal with Jack. I just couldn't stand her at all in ME2.

This probably the reason they weren't recruitable in ME2 - they wanted at least one of them alive for canon - same with Liara.
I can guarantee you that isn't why.

Bioware has already shown that their canon is more important than what you do in your save file and are willing to resurrect dead characters to tell the story their way.
Different writers.

Oh, did you know? Dragon Age was written by a different person. Rather notorious guy. Maybe you've heard of him: David Gaider?

Mass Effect's writers have been pretty consistent in ME and ME2, so I doubt there's going to be magical retcons and whatnot.

No worries, if I get the chace, I'll shoot Ashley in the face. And if that isn't an option then I'll just leave her to rot on the Normandy.

I will declare ME3 to be the most glorious story/game I have encountered, to date, if they include the rachni that you had the potential of saving in ME1; and speak with/through via message in ME2, in ME3.

I'm curious to see if Samara will actually either join you or try to kill you based on your actions in ME2, I also want to see how it plays out if you took Morinth instead (she'll probably try to kill you no matter what though).

Your confusing having any negative motional baggage with being emo.
Your confusing being moderately distrustful of other species because other species tried to blow up a few of your planets with xenophobic.
So long as Jack, Samara, and Liara stay away things are fine. (Why is every Asari either evil or personality-deficient?)
Nawww, Liara's personality in ME1 was genuinely interesting, but she became kind of two dimensional in ME2.

i dont know much about Kaiden and Ashley because i didnt finish ME1, but Ashley was kind of a ***** during the short time she appeared in ME2 x.x

Alright, so I was just on the Mass Effect wikia, as after watching a friend play Arrival, I was curious as to what was known about potential party members in ME3. After several paragraphs of perusing I came upon this frightening detail: Both Kaiden and Ashley can be recruited.

Really? I mean, honestly. For starters, it's one thing to recycle characters (especially those that PS3 players will not have much insight into) from older titles. But it's a completely different story when you include the emo Kaiden, who never ceased to complain about his bio-implants, and the disturbingly racist/xenophobic Ashley
I liked both Kaidan and Ash. Don't like them, don't recruit them.

And considering we spent the entire last game building a team, I'm not exactly sure why you think we'd get a completely new roster.

If you read the email she says she over reacted and shes sorry. (think about it you boy/girlfriend you thought was dead come back after 2 years and is with a known terrest group what would you say?)
all i care about in ME3 is I want to finger quote at the turrean councilman when the reapers show up......

I hated those two as well. But then again, I'll just ditch them on the Normandy and rock out with Garrus and Wrex all game. Wow, it is like the first one.
Aw hells yeah. The legendary Bromance is back again! I love Garrus, and Wrex almost as much (in nonsexual ways, of course,) And seeing that both of them could be here in the game has made me so happy. Plus Legion is back.

And on topic, i think its important to notice that after the horrible leak-fest of Mass Effect 2, that spoiled nearly everything before the game even came out, I think this is just teasing and misleading. Hot Ashley? Makes her a viable romance option again. A few awesome characters stick? great, people are happy. A few less popular, throwing us off a little bit. Maybe some dont have large roles at all, others can be avoided by not putting them in the party, and theres nothing about who wont be returning in game.

I think people are blowing this way out of proportion, taking a few things they dont like and just railing against it, while we actually have very little information on what the game will really be like, and what roles people will play. For all we know, some could have gotten major character rehauls. Its been what, 5 years since ME1 in universe?

I do think Ashley was a bit racist, but why do people hate Kaiden? I liked him.

I fully agree that Jack and Samara should stay the fuck away, I hated Samara with a PASSION, Liara's not so bad though.

The most probable reason they're bringing back Kaiden and Ashley is probably because they were undeveloped, boring characters in ME1. They're probably bringing them back to improve on them.
And I think all ME2 characters who didn't die should be included.

As long as I can use Subject Zero and Grunt. I don't really care where the others are. I do like Liara and Garrus though.

They're probably doing this because of the number of people that complained Ashley/Kaiden wasn't playable in ME2. Just because you didn't like them it doesn't mean they should ignore the people that really do. Bioware probably had enough trouble linking in all the possibilities for previous choices and deaths without then trying to cater to every single fan.

Out of all the ME1 party members to bring back for the final and 3rd installment they don't choose Wrex?! Garrus and Sheppard were acceptable for 2, its hard to hate their characters. But common, its Wrex! Who doesn't wanna bring a can of Krogan-woop-ass on some bitches?

EDIT: If we can't have Wrex then Male Sheppard and Kaiden Romance will be acceptable
