The slime wasn't sure if it was afraid or irritated. The creature wasn't responding normally, and it was hard to ambush a creature like that. But now it seemed another light weilding creature was approaching. Maybe this was some kind of elder version of the creature it was lying in ambush for. But for now, that was irrelevant. What mattered was that this new creature was collosal. There was no way Saarg could fight it, and it seemed to be moving faster than the slime thought was possible!
This new area was just too strange. Saarg had to withdraw, at least until it was bigger, stronger, and more able to fight.
With no time for a cautious descent, Saarg lept from the wall. The slime was suprised when its lightened body and limbs seemed to absorb the impact, as if the slime were made to survive falls like this. As the creature fled down the passage, it tried to recall the way back into the tunnels.
Its memory of The Terror was still fresh though, and this area did seem to have numerous tasty morsels...maybe it would be best to stay here for a while longer...
As the slime continued to flee, its head shot from side to side, eyes straining for a potential hiding spot or route to escape from the new, bigger creature.

OOC PUBLIC STORY UPDATE: STORY ARC 2: "TABLOIDS AND RUMORS" HAS BEGUN. Existing players: You're still fine for now, but be aware that once you get to a monster-y stage, you might not have to actively be spotted by humans. At least one slime is already in the newspaper, though not one anyone takes seriously. New players: Don't worry. There's bound to be a lot of fake stories in addition to real ones, so you won't be tracked down until I think you're ready.

@Saarg: Spotted surprisingly quickly was something similar to the tunnels, but above ground. There was only faint light illuminating that area, but apparently it was from some other light on a long stick of some kind across the path. This... well it wasn't a tunnel. Whatever it was, it had a few large, inorganic things along the walls, many of them with their own unique scents. They were not closely packed, and no light at all in between them. Looking down the wide path the slime was running down, it saw that there must be even more of these.

You saw an alleyway between the pet store and another building next to it, with a few trash cans and boxes along the sides. The street light on the other side of the road lets you see down the alley a little, but not far because of the angle. You can run and hide there if you want. You can also see that there's other small alleys between other buildings so you don't have to hide in this one if you don't want to.

Saarg decided to head down one of these new tunnels. He made straight for the closest one: it looked just thin enough that the huge creature with the two light sources wouldn't be able to fit down. At least, not comfortably. Sprinting flat out, Saarg emerged from the light cast by the tall stick behind him into the darkness of the new...tunnel thing. Saarg paused and waited. It strained to hear iff any of the creatures had followed. Just to be safe, the forked organ in Saarg's mouth snapped out, sampling the air to get new readings about its surroundings. All the running had made the slime hungry, and if it felt safe, it would begin its search for food. The area it had just leaft had so many new creatures, all trapped and waiting for the slime to consume them. Maybe there would be more places like that around here...

@Saarg: The noises the creatures were making came closer, but stopped at the entrance to the tunnel-thing. The large creature with glowing eyes seemed to stay where it was, but the other one with the light that moved around had become visible, and moved the light around the area, scanning slowly. The light even touched the thing the slime was hiding behind, and when the light hit it, the light splintered and illuminated the area towards where the light came from, and to the side. Then it passed, and the creature went back towards the glowing-eyed thing. The creature would periodically move the light back into the area, not letting the slime get a good chance at escape. Another one of the creatures came up to the other one with the light, and they started making noise at each other, though not loud. The other creature made a few other noises, and pointed at the flat top of the room the slime had found food in. The other creature moved the light along the area the other one had pointed to.

So sorry for being gone. Finals and life took up my time...

Sevak was still curious about the odd trail though he was even more curious about the odd animal. Whatever it was, the slime noticed it was covered in softness somewhat like the smaller creature it had been attacked by. Keeping that in mind, the slime moved over to the large thing.
Tentitively it poked the creature, moving back in expectation of being attacked. When nothing happened the slime poked it again. Still nothing. It noticed hard stuff on the ends of the creatures legs while the rest seemed to be soft like the squirrel before.
Deeming it a non-threat, Sevak tested out the hard end, using its "mouth" to see if anything might break off. When nothing really did the slime took a step back and then rammed itself into the middle of the animal, pushing it slightly before it fell back to the original resting position. Confused as to what this was, Sevak moved back down to the thinner hard-ended parts of the corpse and started "chewing" on it in thought.

@Sevak: The creature's very dead and mostly skeletal body tasted... well, the dryness of the stuff the slime recognized as something that should have been soft was the most telling. A white thing in between the hard part the slime had in its mouth and the white thing closest to it loosened, and the part went inside the slime's mouth completely, no longer attached. A little bit of soft red stuff seemed easily accessible on the top of the body.

Saarg longed to pounce and take both of the creatures down, maybe to assimilate the light sources the creatures seemed to have attatched to their limbs. But Saarg knew that fighting one alone was close to suicide, and two, plus the huge creature...impossible.

For now.

Saarg noticed the light was no longer near it, and decided to take action. The slime scuttled as silently and quickly as it could, taloned feet making barely audible clicks on the ground, to a large, in-organic cylinder on the other side of the tunnel. Glancing back, Saarg saw it hadn't been spotted, and performed a similar charge to the side it had first been hiding on. The in-organic cylinders seemed to be spaced at nearly regular intervals down the tunnel. This was unusual, but this world it was in seemed to enjoy patterns.

After a few more zig-zag charges, Saarg came across a cylinder that had fallen onto its side. A large, black, in-organic ball lolled out of it, and a strong odour seemed to come from...inside it.

Saarg tentativly pressed the black thing with a claw, and the thing tore, revealing a mishmash of organic and in-organic items inside. With a glance back at the large creatures, Saarg elected to investigate briefly...

@Saarg: Though there wasn't enough light to distinguish color, one of the things that came out of the black flimsy-skinned thing was most of a sphere... no, more like a long sphere [http://us.123rf.com/400wm/400/400/venakr/venakr1109/venakr110900003/10508149-half-of-watermelon-isolated-on-white-background-clipping-path-included.jpg]? Anyway, it clearly had some stripes on it that the slime could see. The broken part of it, or part where it was obviously missing some of itself, smelled sweet and made a wet sound when it rolled off of the other thing and hit the ground. The thing that the stripey roundish thing rolled over looked completely different- it was somewhat flat, but thick. At one end, it had a lot of small sticks pointing up with little bubbles at the end of each [http://buzzworthy.mtv.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/redjumpsuit_hair_brush.jpg]- this one had a scent too, which also was appealing.

Okay, they've been referenced a few times with their own stories, but I thought I should remind players of their existence. There are a couple slimes being fed specific things by humans, which keep them contained in one way or another. Eventually, these slimes will become seriously dangerous dragons with NO CHANCE to be friendly with the players or human society. The two other spoilers are their stories and equipment.

A few vials of slime were stolen from the lab, but only one made it home with the two teenagers who stole them. The other vials fell into the sewer and became characters that are already in play. Different DNA the slime picked up since waking up is Starfish, Cow, Wheat, Iguana, and a two-headed snake (not a species, a genetic flaw). There are more but it's happened behind the scenes. The slime got its name because Rennik was the name of the teen's dead pet iguana the slime ate; the teens thought it came back to life. Since its last story update, it has escaped, so more story won't be told about it, except for a single update per Story Arc. The DNA this slime started with is Planarian [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planarian].

When the 'beach' slime vials were brought by the scientists for irresponsible disposal, one of the vials fell and wasn't released. A fisherman thought that the vial was cleaning detergent for some reason, and he brings it with him to work every day. He decided the slime was somewhat acidic, so instead he tries to mix in various chemicals, flower petals, and dead insects. Since waking up, the slime has gotten bleach, sulpheric acid, swallowtail butterfly, dandelion, pillbug, garden snail, and others that I won't reveal. This slime got its name because the fisherman/landscaper didn't know what the 'fluid' in the canister was, so this is what he thought of. He still doesn't know it's alive. The DNA this slime started with is Corydceps [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cordyceps].

I'll try to be on more often... I've got tons of stuff popping up right and left (with summer homework, band being way more of a pain than last year- they completely changed the schedule and made tons more days- and other stuff) so if I'm gone for a bit... I'll be around.

Sevak scavenged around for a few more of the odd white hard things before it decided to eat something a little easier to get. The red stuff seemed like a good bet. The slime went for that, occasionally checking to make sure nothing else was around to eat whatever animal this was for Sevak now knew it was animal at least. Possibly another big furry (the squirrel) with hooves.
The two eyes on each side of the slime's head did a wonderful job of checking surroundings, Sevak finally used to how they worked together. It still seemed very odd, having almost 360 degree vision, but the slime dealt with it happily as it ate.

@Sevak: The slime had eaten enough of this.. thing that it recognized what it was [http://www.statesymbolsusa.org/IMAGES/Pennsylvania/white_tailed_deer_buck2.jpg]. Finally understanding its compound eyes in addition to its other eyes made a world of movement explode in the slime's perception. Moving air made most flimsy things move- the green things on the plants, small amounts of dust. Other things the slime couldn't quite recognize dancing in the air. Wait, no, those were alive things. Far out of reach, though. Wayyyy to high up- but not all that far away from the super tall thick brown things. Farther away then flopping off a protrusion would get it, though. A haphazard trail of indents in the ground led away, but who knows how many animals it came from? Another trail led in the opposite direction, similar to the one it was following before- devoid of any plants on the ground, though it was getting difficult to tell where the trail was since it was more dirt and less sticky-uppy green plant.

Sevak took a few more bites of the deer before leaving it be. It while to decide where to go along each trail, each time being distracted by the lack of green on the one side. What was up with that? Everywhere at least had green somewhere... why not there? The slime was reluctant though, it wanted to investigate both paths just out of the curiousity. The ungreened path won over though and the slime decided to remember this place if it ever wanted to come back.

@Sevak: The trail disappeared after a dozen feet or so, the natural area was mostly dirt and didn't have any more grass, so whatever had done this would remain a mystery. There didn't seem to be anything else of particular interest this direction; not even something snacky-looking moving around. Behind the slime back at the deer, though, lots of small movements began to show up- but the slime knew what this was. It was more of those things the slime ate to get its eyes that see everything at once.

Eventually the slime became bored with the ungreened trail, heading back to the deer. Some of the bugs that the slime had ate before came to bother him again, though the slime ignored them at the time. It was more curious of the other path that it had not taken before and started down that path. The odd indents intrigued the slime and occasionally it would try to hop from one indent to another, wondering what might've caused the tracks.

@Sevak: Lifting itself off the ground was difficult for the slime since it wasn't currently built for it, so it didn't hop very high or far. Wherever the things were that had made the indents was unknown, but since the slime could see further with its primary eyes and its surroundings with its secondary, it could tell that there wasn't any movement big enough to be whatever it was. Some sort of new thing was sticking up out of the ground, semi-blocking the slime's path, and some red stuff was on it. Whatever this new thing was, it was thin and shiny.

Having grown tired of "hopping" anyway, the slime was more interested in the odd red sticking-out-of-the-ground shiny thing. Curious as to why it was blocking the path, the slime pushed it gently to see if it could move it. Instead, the slime went nowhere. Sevak paused, tilting its "head" to get a side-angle view which disoriented the creature for a moment. Once used to that, all it accomplished was a taller view of the odd thing. The shiny redish thiny confused the slime now even after a taller view.

I may be on more often now. Minus a week in August for band'"intensive week" (which truly is an intensive week... it should be a night camp for how late we're there all week and 6am in the morning...). Unless anything pops up, I'll be able to post at least once or twice a day.

Well, I better check when I wake up and when I eat, then! I'm very happy to hear it! Also, check out the group cuz I posted something there.

@Sevak: Seeing the thing from every angle, the slime now had a better idea of what it was actually looking at [http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/2f/Sickle33.jpg/220px-Sickle33.jpg]. What was this thing? There weren't more in the area, and the red stuff that was on it looked odd. It wasn't wet-looking or even shiny. Only some of this thing looked shiny, actually.

I saw. I hope all goes well for you :) and the "me on more often" pertains to the summer only... since I suspect school to be busy. Very busy. Again.

Sevak was confused. Very. Very confused. The slime was even more confused about the odd redish stuff and started to rub up against it in hopes of either knocking the odd object over or figuring out what the red stuff was. Instead, the slime got a little of the stuff in its "mouth" which tasted horrible, but the slime persisted and that occasion happened a few more times. The odd shape of the object was interesting though.

Well then hopefully we can play enough that you evolve to a 'drake' stage. Basically your full-dragon form but not full size yet.

@Sevak: Whatever this red stuff was, it was inorganic. It had a.. taste, though. Nothing like it had ever tasted before. It didn't contain any information since it was inorganic, and its genes told it that eating this was pointless. If the slime was able to find it again, or find something else, there was that big pile of random things that was across the water and up the hill.

no clue why it says Token...I hope I titled that right... and school starts September 2nd if I remember right. It might be the 3rd... and I'll be missing a week in August thanks to band. So hopefully I can evolve enough in that time :)

Sevak quit pushing the odd thing after it hadn't moved, more tired of the horrible tasting stuff that accidentally kept getting into its mouth. But thinking of this reminded the slime of the big pile of random stuff. It knew that was over the water again and up somewhere, or it seemed up at least, but not entirely sure where. Maybe if it found that cylinder again it could retrace the roll? The slime figured that would work so it set off to find the cylinder and the water.
