How do you feel about the issue of bc? I for one believe that there should be more bc in console machines. For example if Sony uploaded a paid update to psn for the ps2 to be emulated would you buy it?

In short, I was going to buy a PS3, then Sony dropped BC, then I didn't. So it's pretty important to me. I wouldn't buy one even if there were a paid upgrade; it's the principle of the damn thing.

Of course I would buy it.

However, honestly it is not very sound in practical application. Sure the notion seems great when your buying a new console at the begining of a new console cycle because you want one system to play all the titles you just spent the last 7 years buying, but once you start getting into the games the new console can do, the amount of time you expend revisiting those old generation titles is rather limited.

I like the freedom and option, but even having it I know its something that is decidedly underutilized.

I'd definately buy it. Or at least they should start releasing some more PS2 games in packs like they did the God of War games. I'm still hoping for a Persona 3 Fes/Persona 4 pack game.

But yeah, it should come with more backwards compatibility. I mean, I get you want to move forward as a company, but still. Persona! and with this new law in Japan, we may not get Catherin, or a Persona 5, and if we do they'll both just suck.

So yeah.. BC is very important.

I have my old consoles for backwards compatibility... and I hardly use most of them because the older games aren't as interesting once newer ones come out.

I like it, but it seems Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft have found a rather smart way to make money off some of their older releases by restricting it. It's nice on the one hand to have games available for purchase which cost outrageous prices now instead of trawling through Amazon or Ebay hoping that one guy with the reasonable price isn't ripping you off, but I still have a large library. My PS2 is my favorite system, and almost all of my favorite games on console are for it. With my PS2 slowly dying after almost a decade of service, I would like to still be able to play those games without having to purchase a new system. Now, as for a PS2 emulator on the PS3, I would buy it if the price was less than the cost of buying a new PS2.

Thankfully, PCs have a huge base of people that know how to tweak a computer into playing older games.

My PS3 is capable of playing PS2 and PSX just fine. Had to hunt for the one I wanted, but I do love a challenge.

I think backwards compatibility is the most overrated thing in gaming. Yeah, its nice to have, but people make it as a fucking necessity. If you wanna go back and play old games that you've played before, than you probably own the console to do that with. The issue is not an issue for me. I like Backwards compatibility, hells yeah, but in no way would the lack there of stop me from buying a console. If it really bothered me that much, I'd buy the console the game was intended for... just saying.

One of the reasons that contributed to me not buying a ps3 was that it is no longer backwards compatible.

Not a big deal since my ps2 still works but I'm fast running out of plug sockets and the wall sockets in my room are beginning to look like shots from one of those fire safety videos.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I really like backwards compatibility, the lack of it on new ps3s is one reason I dont have one

There's a version with backwards compatibility (20gig and a couple others) but it's a little more expensive, and a smaller HDD than other versions.

Hells to the yes I would buy that.
I play alot of obscure jrpg's and such. Most of them are rather kinda of old. Luckily my 60g ps3 has complete bc so I'm well enough off. But I'm getting another ps3 soon(cause mine is kinda dying) so I'm worried.

I ended up buying an older model PS3 just to have full backwards compatibility but I found that I barely play my Playstation and PS2 games now, to the point where my original Playstation and PS2 consoles could easily be pulled out and used for that purpose and it wouldn't change much. I like the PS3 system a lot and I'd have it either way, but I do admit it's an added bonus to be able to play everything on it for when I have a desire to.

I would pay for that update, I miss my ps2 games.

The least Sony could do is put ps2 games on the download store like they do with psX games, I'd perfectly happy with that.
