Bad Game Redemption

I'm sure we have all played some bad video games that we thought were going to be good. So I ask this question If you had to pick one bad game that you played and it could be remade what game would it be? and what would you change? My pick is Shadow the Hedgehog I think they could have been so good possibilities with the game. I would have tighten the controls, camera gotten rid of the guns and vehicles, shorten some of the levels they just seemed way to long, and I would have kept the voice actors from Sonic Adventure 2 well most of them. I ask this question because there have been some bad games that could have had great potential but it was all wasted.

I would take all the stillborn 3D attempts at Castlevania games (including the most recent one!) and turn them all into 2D Metroidvania-style games.

I really, REALLY REALLY wanted Quantum Theory to be a good game, but I thought it would be doomed from the start.

Something about the one giant tower location peeked my interest...but I hated it's demo, and most people hate the game.

AND SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG WAS A GOOD GAME! :)

I expected this thread was going to be about Red Dead Redemption, and calling it bad.

Keeping with that in mind, I would take RDR and make the open world less boring, so that when you spend 75% of the single player riding your horse through an empty landscape (who cares if it's huge if it has the same amount of content as a small town in any other sandbox game) you don't tune it out and ignore the game.

And can they all be handheld games, too?

The DS and GBA games are all fantastic! And Dracula X Chronicles is pretty sweet on the PSP.

OT:

Take Other M.

Keep it straight up third person or first person. DO NOT MIX!

I can live with the storyline, as I never expect a good plot out of any game with NINTENDO somewhere on the box. But the atrocious gameplay? The core mechanics are fine, but first person mode fucks it up.

I was thinking the same thing I can live with everything else but why do I have to which just to shoot a missile? why couldn't it just be linked to a button?

I would remake Wet, Phantasy Star: Universe, Star Wars: KotOR 2, and Crackdown 2.

WET: Make Rubi likable and less like a clichéd-as-all-hell gun-toting *****, and make the controls better. This should have been awesome.

PS:U: Overhaul the graphics, controls, and inventory system, and get better actors. And make it so you can pause the damn thing. Because, despite all that, I like this game. I can count on one hand the number of times I cried when a character died. With some improved graphics and voices that didn't make you cringe (the first two chapters are particularly bad), and better gameplay (including the ability to pause), this game could be AMAZING.

SW:KotOR2: Well, I'd finish the ending, one. Maybe also reduce the number of party members. By the end, I've pretty much settled on the most effective line-up, and the others never see combat.

CD2: I'm all for the if-it-ain't-broke method, but this is just sad. Also, I would see that it actually gets finished. Some of the buildings look like the developers didn't expect you to actually look at them too close. Also, the targeting system. You really need to be able to switch targets on the fly.

i would have to say kingdom hearts chain of memories, it was already remade but still as crappy, all they have to do is make it like the others and take out that horrible horrible card gameplay

I would recommend FF13 for this thread, but that had so many things wrong with it that it's probably beyond hope. I would remake any of the other Final Fantasy games with Paper Mario-style action command combat and they could be significantly improved.

The most blatant ones that come to mind are Call of Duty: Black Ops, and every Bethesda release since Oblivion.
For Black Ops, the game would be so much better if it was on Modern Warfare 2's engine, and the multiplayer aspect would be improved with some tweaks to the guns, knife, and killstreaks.

For the Bethesda games, my god, get better bug testers. It is somewhat hard to enjoy these supposedly "awesome" games when I get stuck in a rock 40 minutes in and then the autosave sticks me in that rock permanently. Some of the bugs are ridiculously large, as well, and I'm just astounded that, given how bug ridden these games are known to be, that Bethesda hasn't hired a larger bug testing group. It is just plain absurd sometimes.

Im the exact opposite, I loved the gameplay but hated the story with the burning passion of a thousand suns

I will say Two Worlds but the sequel is coming out soon and they seem to have done the impossible and did a complete 180 with the game.
My ass they did. Through some other means I managed to get a preview of the game and whilst it's an improvement over the last it's still a shit game.

Call of Duty: Black Ops is just plain horrible. So much potential wasted. They could have turned the series around but no, Activision just had to stick its bit fat dick up Treyarch's ass and ruin everything.

Final Fantasy 13 or Enslaved: Odyssey of the West (or what ever that fail knock off of journey to the west was called)
