I liked GTA IV, but there was a lot of shit in the game that pissed me off.

A lot of really popular games don't suck me in. I was watching TV with my dad and he though COD Black Ops looked like the coolest thing ever, same with Halo. They just don't look that great to me. I have to remember the only games he ever played were on the Atari. I also remember him telling me Superman 64 was really cool (silly old man) I'm more of a third person player and never cared for FPS. I certainly won't look down on you for playing them, but when my friends start talking about pwning noobs on COD I tune out.

Any game that requires you to spend piles of money on cheap plastic toys. I found the first Guitar Hero entertaining for about 5 minutes. But really, it's just Simon Says. Push the same color button that displays on the screen. Pay $200 for the privilege.

DJ Hero, Rock Band, and whatever else is coming down the line hold no appeal for me. Besides, like 50+ games later and there are maybe 10 good songs on the entire collected track list of cheap plastic crap games.

Half life 2
DON'T GET ME WRONG!
Episode 1,2 and 3 are great but apart from the opening, I thought HL2 got pretty samey pretty quickly. Eg Ravenholm. Not Fun. Not scary. Just a difficult non optional side quest. And vehicle sections. Bland environments that went on for way to long.

Call of Duty since Modern Warfare 1 period, and Battlefield games are about the same now.

I would say Half Life 2 (at least the regular Xbox version) I found it to be way too linear/generic gameplay wise, and had boring ass vehicle sections which stopped me from playing it. I never even got to the gravity gun thing... The story may have been good and done in a different way than most games but the actual gameplay was just so bad to me I had to stop.

Pokemon

I have mixed feelings, but I just don't like it. At times, it's fun to play... but most of the time, it's irritating.

The random wild encounters can sometimes get to be a pain in the ass, especially in caves.

Alot of the battles feel like grinding and nothing much.

Legendaries are just to hard to catch for Pokemon that aren't even that amazing.

Super Effective just annoys me when 20 levels of difference mean squat, 'cause of attribute.

Getting lost/unable to continue the story.

I wish there was more direction and hints at times.

Things I like though, the Pokemon are cool.

The battles that are part of the story are fun.
The stories usualy fun to play out.
Capturing a Legendary feels so good.
Flying is godly.

But yeah, to me the griding and cheap ''super effective'' blows that knock me out in one hit have just made me jaded towards these games.
I understand most of what you are saying about Pokemon, but I would like to know how you get lost in a Pokemon game? The games are actually very linear, half the time they point out exactly where you have to go next. There usually is only one way to go, which is on to the next city, though if you do have more than one path to choose, the wrong path is always some kind of dead end until you get a certain item, and those dead end choice usually only take up at the most 3 or 4 minutes.

I always got pissed many years ago back in the day of Red and Blue, when my little 7 year old cousin harped on me to help him find out where he was supposed to go next. The reason it made me angry is that as with those versions and all that came after them, the player has a map in inventory, and people that are walking around that can be talked to. If players actually used the map and talked to people, there would be no getting lost.

------

OT: Dead Rising, it is a piece of shit. The whole game time limit is something that no game should have. I want to actually play the game at my own pace, not rush because if I don't do things fast enough I get messed up because events I don't know about are already happening around me.

Oh, and don't point out the no time limit mode, because as I know, it isn't unlocked until I beat the game. If they are going to have a mode like that, they need to just make it available from the start for people that think 3 days to do stuff is bogus and bad game making.

It is the whole reason I despised Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. Any game maker that wants to add such a time limit to a game, needs to be slapped. Time limits should be for achievements that come after the first play through, when people want to test themselves after they know a good bit of what a game is like. Besides, it stupidly wants me to take pictures while playing. I think it is a cool concept, but photography isn't something to be rushed, even if it is fake video game photography.

The only reason I got Dead Rising was because it was in a value three pack with Devil May Cry 4 and Lost Planet Colonies edition, that I got for 25 bucks.

I played DR for about one and a half hours when I got it last year, and haven't touched it since.

I think you have lost some credibility, there is no Episode 3, at least not yet.

It's going to be the next Dukem Forever, so far the wait on Episode 3 has been 3 years at least.

Sorry, double post. My computer or the site is acting slow, can never tell which one, most likely my PC.

Apologies. It was late, I was tired, there are three games with a stupid naming system...a whole mess of things went wrong. And never mind the double post. I just assumed you believed in your point strongly.

Mass Effect 2. Everyone goes on and on about how much better it is totally ignoring the fact that the story has been stripped down to a series of fucking side quests.
It is still not a competent shooter and now it has lost the one thing that made the first so awesome. The epic fucking story line.
Actually I found even the combat to be worse in Mass Effect 2 especially on the harder difficulties. Most biotic powers were totally nerfed. The only things ME2 did better was getting rid of the mako and having better side planets/quests. For some reason I still enjoyed ME 2 greatly though.

The Halo series. Why? The single player was all centered around a protagonist with no emotions/humanity/personality running around bashing aliens and flipping cars like they are made of paper. The storyline was linear and very predictable. The multiplayer... don't even get me started on the multiplayer...

Also, I gotta say, I really dislike the Fifa series, that could be because I find all sports games to be dull as hell (except the really old one where you could turn fouls off and switch teams at will :p)

I understand about the Half-Life naming system, it is strange.

Also:

If you ever get a double post from someone, it means that their computer or the site is slow to registering the post and the person thinks that the post didn't take, so they post it again.

Saying "Sorry, double post" is a nice way that I and many Escapist regulars use to explain why a person got quoted back to back with the same words. It also tells the Mods that it was a computing accident that was the cause for the double post.

Half Life 2: Just never been able to get into that much. I don't really care for the story that so many people love. It's just... me.

Team Fortress 2: To be fair, I just don't like online multiplayer nor PC games that much, and the 360 version sucks. It also seems to be selling out somewhat with the mann-co update.

Metal Gear Solid: I just don't really care for the series. The Metal Gear Acid 2 game was alright, but that's all I've played too much of.

Complaining about flipping cars like paper is getting a little picky. Being able to do so isn't wrong in any way. Spartans are engineered super humans with power-armor, I would be surprised if they couldn't flip cars like paper.

The thread title isn't exactly a good one for this. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that it's bad. Like the fella on the other page said, it's all subjective, so the point is moot.

However being a douche about titles is hardly becoming for a noob to the site so I'll answer too, and well I've gotta say Starcraft 2. I love me my RTS', but I just can't get into it. Not even finished the campaign, which makes me feel kinda guilty because my friend bought it for me as an early birthday present. Eheh...

I think it's probably that the matches feel too samey for me. When I do play I usually play as Protoss because I think they're pretty freakin' cool, but its all about build orders and rushing. I guess I just like calmer ones like AOE2/3 and Sins of a Solar Empire.

It appears that many of us have the same opinions therefore showing that none are loved by everyone. However...

Halo series. As far as I can tell the only good thing about them was limiting us to two weapons and removing health packs. This has now been done to death and I long for Duke Nukem Forever when I will be able to carry a whole armoury around.

Call of Duty after the first Modern Warfare. Boring, repetative, pants multiplayer blah blah etc etc

Gears of War. Boring repetative gameplay.
