Well, XIII for the PS2 felt really clunky and didn't explain the controls, but I still love it for its story and art-style.

If you love it, it isn't a bad game.

Games are primarily a tool for fun. If you're having fun, it has succeeded.
Bollocks! People are more than capable of deciding if something is bad, but that does not mean it can't be fun.
By the same token just because a game is AAA doesn't dictate that it's not going to bore the shite out of you.

What?

Learn to read?

"Games are primarily a tool for fun. If you're having fun, it has succeeded."

How can you enjoy a game and then turn around and call it a bad game?

Poor logic, you make.
I understand what you're saying perfectly. You're stating that people cannot love something if it's bad. But maybe, what with the thread title, people can appreciate something regardless of it's quality. It has a charm or some redeeming feature that makes it easy to love.
You must have played some games that were well made but left you cold? It's the same principle.

I dodn't know what the general consensus is on it, but I love Shadowrun, and there never seem to be more than 100 people online. Is it considered a bad game?

I will go for an obscure title and say SaGa frontier (the first one)

Dont know if I could say I loved it, but I do remember playing it like forever. Basically from march of 98 till October 98 which for me playing one game, thats a long damned time.

I would give a nod to the aformentioned Too human. The combat was kind of zen like and soothing in its repetitiveness. That game is such a tragedy though. How the hell can you take Norse mythology and put it into a futuristic sci fi context and still overwhelm that level of awesome with unadulterated suck?

Bah! It cannot be bad! I cannot have spent all those hours as a child on a bad game! My image, she is ruined!

I'm going to cast a vote for Airline Tycoon...a game that objectively I don't even know why I like. Poor gameplay mechanics, uninspired art direction, terrible voice acting, and an economic model shallower than a kiddie pool...and yet it's fun.

Bad games? Army Men 3D. Such a bad game, terrible voice acting, and when I installed it a few months ago there were levels that I couldn't get past when I first played that I breeze through now. But I loved it.

Devil May Cry 4

Despite that Nero is a shitty character, and despite the fact that the second half of the game just makes you backtrack through the game, I still love this game because of how good the combat is.

No. That's not what I'm saying. At all.

I'm saying that if you enjoy it, it IS NOT a bad game.
Ahhh... I see where you're coming from...
But my point still stands. ;)

Going by a few of my recent purchases, both Rise of the Argonauts and NIER got pretty bad reviews. And they are far from AAA titles. But while the general consensus is these games are 'bad' I've gotten a great deal of pleasure out of them. But, coming back to your point, I totally agree, I don't see the games as 'bad' at all.

But I think the deal with this thread is games that have no depth, are programmed poorly or are just generally considered to be shit by all and sundry, but there is always someone who will find something about a game.

Except the first Iron Man game. That was shocking.

(OK, I promise to drop the issue now, don't even know why I'm going on about it.)

Final Fantasy X-2

Okay, yes. Everything you've heard about the game is correct. The story is crap, the ATB is awful, the super pretty princess magical girl dress up system is pointless and they somehow managed to make Blitzball even more boring.

I should probably be placed on the Group-W bench along with the Mother killers and Father rapers for enjoying it but God help me I really really do like that game.

I think it has something to do with the fact that it uses the Final Fantasy Job Class system.
That's a game mechanic I'll never get tired of.

I am quite sure that Dynasty warriors qualify as this. Damn, there is something about killing a 1000 peons by yourself with a giant weapon.
