Bad Habits for Gamers

While trying to search for my New Vegas disk I thought this would be a good topic. Plenty of people have bad habits, but what is it that other gamers do, or just other people do, that you find most annoying.

I was tempted to give this to the racist sexist homophobes of all ages during online play, but that's too easy. Nah, for me this has to go to the people that, when taking a game out to put another in, they take it out and put it in the case of the one they're putting in rather than it's own. Once or twice is just a little annoying, but give someone a while, and it's completely impossible to find anything.

What is it people do that you really hate?

Gamers, at least on the internet, seem to far too commonly hold the idea that any game they don't like is of poor quality, and ask other people what they could possibly see in such a game. This shows up a lot in discussions about Final Fantasy where every other post is how the series went downhill after their favorite one in the series.

As a fan of Halo and Call of Duty I know exactly what you mean.

PC gamer elitism.
"Grumble Grumble Skyrim* would be better if it was not on consoles, Why do we have to pander to 2005 tech whine whine "

Because console sales far outstrip PC sales and without, using the Skyrim example, the console sales of Oblivion/Fallout 3 there would be a good chance that BethSoft wouldn't be making Skyrim? Hows 'dem apples? Crunchy?

Of course not all PC gamers are like this, hell my gametime is 50/50 Xbox/laptop at the moment.

I don't talk to people online since most of the time they yell or insult you, I just listen to them and if they're annoying, mute them.

A video game "habit" of mine is that I reload as soon as I get a kill, often gets me killed, too. Probably not the only one though.

Like you mentioned you were searching for your disk, leaving your disks just sitting around is a horrible habit, if my disks aren't being used they are in their case on my alphabetically organized game shelf.

Getting too used to Quicksaving, Save-Anywhere, or Auto-Save.

It will just make you angry at games without it.

>_>

I kinda prefer save points, myself.

When games face controversy of any kind(like other art forms have), everyone hides behind the "they're just games!" excuse.

And when they're treated just like games, and not given the same recognition as an art form, everyone shouts "but they are art!".

Game's can't be art only when its convenient. If you want games to be art, you have to stand by them through the bad times, as well as the good.

And if you don't care about them being art, and just see them as games. Then don't be so pissed when people treat them like games, and not as an art form.

my hubby does this, now I've learned that no matter what game of mine he's taken out it'll be in the uncharted 2 box!

my pet peve is people that fold down the corners of books (that includes game manuals) bugs the crap out of me that does!

A lot of people that have just started playing Killing Floor tend to really piss me off. Far too many assume that because they're good at Left 4 Dead, they can just jump straight into the higher difficulty servers from the start. There's nothing more aggravating than having a player who has all level 0 perks join the game at the start of the 8th or 9th wave and results in the squad being wiped because they caused a fleshpound to rage before everyone was ready to take it down.

When people throw away the cases or the manuals of the game, as a collecter I hate that. There's nothing quite like the feeling of finding a rare game in the wild, only to discover that only the disc remains.

Or when people fold the spine of a book and then complain when it falls apart.

Unfortunately, now that I have over 1200 games, I sorta ran out of space ...
Seriously considering throwing a whole bunch of stuff out.

As a fem-gamer, I hate it when girls use their wiles to cover up a lack of knowledge in games. As in, "HELLO. I PLAY GAMES KINDA SORTA, BUT I'M HOT SO LOOK HERE!" It's possible to be both good looking AND know your games, but it seems to be a trendy thing now-a-days that drives me up the wall and gives girls a bad name in games.

But guys might disagree..

Not to mention "Consolization". 99% of the time, whenever someone says something with that in the sentence, I'm going to want to punch them in the face from their terrible rhetoric.

Actually, one of my biggest peeves is when someone quits a ranked match before the end so they don't lost points. It's petty, they know it's petty, and they do it anyway. Some people are really sore losers.

No most guys will probably agree with your viewpoint, look up Ijustine and you will see a lot of hate directed her way for the portal 2 lets play for the very reasons you stated. (now equally hating people like thats probably a bit harsh, but thats another discussion entirely).

But yeah good point :)
Good to know! Yeah, iJustine would have been a good example. I find her charming in other ways, but when it comes to games she definitely milks the "hot girl playing games" thing.

My old habit of constantly forget where I put my games. When my MW2 died after kicked under a t.v, I became mind-boggling anal about it. I rarely leave games in my 360 now, and I handle them each like the holy grail.

My worst gamer habit is a classic:

"Dang, this part of the game is pretty difficult and frustrating. I'll just take a break from it for a few weeks..."

"...or months..."

"....decades."
