Ever pick up a bad habit from a game that has transferred to other games?

An example for me would be Hitting chests before I open them I picked that up from dark souls because people who have played it know why.

So anyone ever pick up a habit from a game that has transferred to another one?

Immediately reloading my weapon after killing a target, even if I still have half the magazine or more left. I have no idea where I picked up this bad habit, but I do it in pretty much every shooter. In some, like the CoD franchise, it's not really all that bad. In more realistic franchises though, the ones where any rounds left in a discarded magazine are also discarded... yeah... it kinda hurts there.

In Skyrim I always used to zone out staring at the beautiful landscapes when I could see them.
I do the same in GTA V and Just Cause 2... when I'm piloting flying vehicles.

Also I always used to skip through cutscenes by repeatedly mashing the skip button.
When I did my first replay of Mass Effect I completely forgot about the dialogue choices and spent the whole first conversation selecting random options by accident.

I have a bad problem with grinding. Any JRPG, if I'm given the chance to walk around and earn EXP then I'll do it. In Pokemon this becomes a huge problem. One example is in Sapphire, which I just recently restarted. Before I even battled my rival for the first time, my Mudkip was already a level 22 Marshtomp.
Even worse was in my Kingdom Hearts Final Mix LP I did a year and a half ago, in which I got to level 25 while still on Destiny Island. :p

The only JRPG you should never grind in is the first Paper Mario game. The reason isn't because it's a waste of time, but if you get to max level and accidentally have certain badges equipped while leveling up, all your states get reset and the save is broken. It's a really bad glitch in the game that is also in the Virtual Console port, so be warned. Similar things can happen in Kingdom Hearts 2, but only if you use a cheating device.

The only bad habbit I have is over organizing in Resident Evil games.

Whether it's the item boxes or the attaché case in Resident Evil 4, I can't help fiddling around with items trying to find the most effecient set-up, ironically wasting time in the process.

After playing Fallout and going back to one of the CoD games, I tended to start throwing grenades when in reality all I wanted to do was go into V.A.T.S. so I could put all of my action points into their head. That was truly frustrating because I quickly became dead by the person I was attempting to shoot.

I wouldn't say that's a bad habit - you're appreciating the beauty.

Oh.

I went from Dragon's Dogma to Dark Souls and kept pressing square on instinct - cue my character drinking Estus flasks for seemingly no reason.

Umvc3 to P4A. what no Xfactor?

P4A to Umvc3. what no burst?

Also, i'm a horder. Elixirs, Megaelixirs, Rpg ammo, anything that there is a limited amount of, i will never use just in case i need them later, which i never do.

Oh dear God, I do that too. The worst is the item boxes. The very first space goes to the ink ribbons with all items below it weapons and their ammo in order of power, followed by a First Aid Spray, key items you can use more than once, and another First Aid Spray. Above the ink ribbon are healing items of descending power and poison cure abilities, capped off with a First Aid Spray and then any key/puzzle items. Why yes, I have mild OCD, how did you guess?

I don't know if it counts but, I used to use inverted aiming on console, and because my consoles were in the living room when I got a gaming laptop I played on that more for the longest time, compare about 10 years weekends only to 1 year everyday and since I also did not play a lot of shooter until recently and that increased when I got my pc i learned mouse. Going back to play my older games on console I had gotten used to using mouse. I don't use inverted mouse since the feeling of moving your hand opposite directions is weird to me, but when I went back to use a contoller neither inverted or normal felt right but normal felt more right. So in 1 year i untrained my self from using inverted looking, though it still feels natural in an air craft in game to be inverted.

Also I had just got my copy of Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne right after finishing Final Fantasy X, and I tried to use Triangle to skip a turn... yeah.

Same here man. Been killed by that on more than a few occasions, but I keep doing it because I never know when I'll need those few extra bullets to down someone.

Thanks to Saints Row the Third, every time I see a smart car my first thought is to go after it and blow it up. Fortunately I've never actually done so.

I've got a bit of a strange one. If I've just been playing a turn-based game such as a roguelike, RPG or even a board or card game that turn-based mentality will transfer into any other games I play straight after or even real life for about ten minutes.

It feels very strange walking into a room of my house, looking around and feeling like I need to decide how to plan my next turn. It gets even wierder with other people around. If someone walks somewhere or does something I sometimes get a split second impulse that I have to wait for them to finish whatever they're doing before I can go.

Coming from Fallout to Skyrim, I was a pack rat.
You pick up the same gun or armor in Fallout so you can use the parts to repair what you got, and that take-all mentality made it's way into Skyrim for me.

Well whenever I play DOTA 2 I keep trying to Flash at the worst possible times. (Flash is an artificial short range teleport in League, every single person in the game will take it, it's broken OP) In my mind i've Flash juked a Pudge hook, in reality i've just fucking died because Pudge is bullshit T_T

'S why I play Antimage a lot. Blink is more than double the range of Flash and has a 5 second cooldown. You know I thought that the Antimage guide video by Pyrion Flax was exaggerating but you really do need 12 guys arranged around him in two concentric circles and 100% stun locks to successfully gank him.

Then there was that time I tried to X-Factor cancel a bad facecheck in League. I walked into 5 guys and genuinely expected to be "safe" because I hadn't used X-Factor yet. Not to mention trying to Burst when moving from BlazBlue to UMVC3... Burst mechanics should be mandatory in every fighting game.

Still I don't play UMVC3 anymore so I don't have to worry about it now. It would be nice if Chrono Phantasma would hurry up though, i've accidentally stumbled over Kokonoe gameplay today and it looks so cool instant main omg hype.

This.

"What this? The sidequest I want is all the way across the map? AND I can fast-travel to said location to even start said sidequest??? ...Well, better start walking there instead... and immediately kill anything within sight... That EXP ain't gonna grind itself, you know!"

OT: Besides grinding to the point that I [temporary] become too overpower, I seem to play games like I'm training to become a Q&A tester... If you complain that the Game Grumps barely make any progress in a video game without a walkthrough next to them, then for the love of your sanity, DON'T MAKE ME LP A GAME BLIND!

Also, if I look up how to get every trophy in a game, you can bet your ass I will literally write down a detailed strategy plan to get as many trophies as I can on my first run... add that to my habit of "slowly" playing a game as well as purposefully taking the long routes just to EXP grind, even if I didn't really need to overall, and you got yourself a case on why I have a big gaming backlog besides the "buying more games that you barely have time to play" excuse...

"Oh, you allowing me to borrow your copy of [insert game title here] for the next few weeks? Alright..." *few weeks later* "Yes, I am THAT far into the game... and I only completed [insert single digit number here]% of just the 'story' alone, despite the game only being an average of [insert single digit number here] hours long and yet I was able to chalk up [insert double-digit number here] hours on just ONE section of the game alone?? ...No, I did not ONCE ask myself 'what do I do now' and then proceed to look up a guide online, I swear..."

I'm not quite as bad as that, but in any Pokemon game I play my main has to be level 20 by the first gym and 10 levels more for every one after that, and level 100 by the Elite Four, no matter how boring it is or how much time I might save by coasting for a bit and fighting higher-levelled enemies later.

Similarly, although this isn't a habit so much as an anecdote, in Enchanted Arms (An RPG for the PS3 I think), they had something on sale for a ridiculous amount of money in the shop. I spent the whole time saving up, but by the time I could buy it, it was actually less powerful than most of my party. Ruined the game, basically. I stopped playing for a few months after that.

I do have the hitting chests one though. Can't be too careful.

I always find myself walking up to bodies in Halo games so that I can loot them. MJOLNIR power armor can sell for quite a few bottle caps, you know.

Except that I can neither loot nor sell things, so I end up walking out in the open where Mr. Deadguy's buddies kill me with excessive amounts of gunfire.

Oh I had some awful ones from my MMO days, the most grand of all was the "endgame dash"... that is when you practically speed run(or skip) the entire content part of the game missing out on all it's value only to get into the endgame loot grind and then gawk at people who dare enjoy the game.
That was a dark time in my life.

That one I luckily shook off but the grind tendencies remain, I'll often find myself craving after XP numbers more then the next story element which ruins the damn taste every single time.

I haven't picked up any habits from games but I have brought my real life habits into gaming. If any game has a limited resource, I will struggle to get as far as I can while spending as little as I can. I often have high level RPG characters with no skills because I cant spend the points.
