I had a neighbor that threatened to punch me in the face for riding my bicycle in front of his house. I was about 10 at the time.
Recently, my younger brother and his friend made a crazy-awesome tree fort that had two levels, and was 14 feet off the ground, with only several wooden plank at random points to help you climb.
We hanged out in there, playing card games and smoking while listening to the radio. We never bothered anyone, and we were too deep in the woods from any houses to have been a eyesore or annoyance in any way.
Unfortunately, it was built a little way off from the wayside of a minor trail park that nobody used. As soon as word got out that my brother had made this awesome fort, it was vandalized almost every week by dumb shit kids who couldn't make their own forts. They'd go up there, make a mess, leave their trash, and would either steal shit like our radios, or just throw them out into the woods from on top of the fort.
We would have jumped the kids who did it, but we never found out who it was.
Also, the group of neighbours who owned the park finally saw my brothers fort, and had a talk with him about it. They said they didn't mind it being there, but wanted to talk it over at a meeting wit them that they were having at a party. They invited my brother, but he had no desire to show up at a meeting with a bunch of creepy adults, and skipped it.
A few weeks later, his fort was burned down. The local Firemen (who was part of the group of neighbors that owned the little park) sat and watched it burn down completely before lifting a hand to stop the fire.
I hated my neighborhood after that. I was so proud of my brother for building such a cool fort. He and his friend worked hard on that thing. They had to scale the tree, drag large boards up with them, nailing the floors and wall in while hanging from the branches like a couple monkeys. All that hard honest work, and all the money they put into it, and all the losers, the assholes, and stuck up creeps ruined it for him because of jealousy, or for fun, or because it wasn't a part of their boring and depressing lives.
