I first got the idea for this thread when I saw Yahtzee's review of Halo Wars and specifically the part where he nearly looses his mind because one mission he hated so much that he refused to go through it again.
I realise that when I play games there are many moments like this, you know parts of a game that are bad, confusing, frustrating or even just unfairly difficult. Points in a game where no matter how much fun you were having before... these bits just ruin the experiance. At this point I would always either:
Speed through these parts as fast as possible to get back to the point where game becomes fun again.
Or just shut the game off shouting 'forget this I wanna play Bioshock' thinking to myself that I'll come back to it later. For me personally no game is a better example of this than Dead Space. While the dismemberment and exploring of the ship is a riot of laughs, encountering those annoying guardian things that kill you over and over again or much worse those annoying Zero G puzzles (specifically the ones that can kill you if you mess up) that just ruin the fun. Some of these puzzles are okay but often they are so annyoing and frustrating that I am usually driven to shut the game off. If I want to solve puzzles I'll play Portal but if I want to dismember alien limbs on a derelict ship then I'd look to a game like Dead Space.
Seriously there is nothing more annoying then messing up on a puzzle and being unable to complete it or being killed by the same guardian twelve times in row. Once I even finished a very annoying puzzle, got killed, then had to start over. I remember thinking
'I am NOT putting myself through THAT again'.
But that's me
What part of a game annoyed you so much that you just couldn't take it?
(if this thread has been done before me am awful sorry y'all)
