hahaha I just got done playing AoE:3 for a couple hours when I came to this site

OT:

I've actually liked most game sequels I've played. As far as movie sequels go- all the pirates of the Caribbean movies except the first which was great. The rest are utter shite

Mercenaries 2

The first one was cool and actually had a relatively compelling storyline. The second kept all the problems from the first, added a few more, changed some stuff that didn't need to be changed, and had a shit story.

You found NOTHING? I've seen this thread at LEAST three times...
Check yourself, like I said, I only checked for those terms because I couldn't think of any other way of putting it.

Maybe it was before I came.

Final Fanasy X-2. Took everything that was good about X and replaced it with wtf and j-pop.
About that j-pop part: I actually liked 1000 Words. Other than that, though, the game really does seem like a bad direction from X (I said "seem" because I haven't played it. As for 1000 Words, I heard it in midi, and honestly, it's better that way).

On topic, while not bad, Super Mario Sunshine wasn't all that great, and the water jetpack (forgot the name) felt gimmicky. I did like the trippy water pack-less parts, though.

Also Phantom Hourglass, it made the tedious-but-pretty sailing from Windwaker just dull, not to mention a timed dungeon of unkillable enemies that you keep coming back to.
Ok, I didn't mean to say J-Pop is bad, I listen to some of it, but it's just that it feels like a HUGE step back after the magnificance that was X.
I agree I loved the first and was psyched for the second, after I bought it I was left wondering what the devs were thinking!

I checked the search bar and got nothing, I did only check for "sequels" and "bad sequels" though.

I loved the first dawn of war, so I thought I'd get the second.

After taking an hour to install the game, update it, get a steam account and set up windows live (even though I don't have an 360) only to be bitterly disappointed it was nothing like the first.

Incase you haven't played the first, think of command & conquer but it's a bit quicker to form a massive army and the super weapons are massively powerful units.

The second takes all the good points of RTS and throws them away in favor of speeding so fast to the best units that you can have the best stuff in four clicks, one click for the HQ, one click to upgrade once, another click to upgrade again and a final click to build the best unit (you have to wait for the upgrades to finish).

You can't build turrets, barracks, the building that upgrades stuff, a super weapon, the building that build tanks, the HQ does everything.

Me = gutted, I can't even take it back for a refund.

Now for the discussion part: So is there any games you have loved the first (or second) but
then a sequel gets released and destroys what you loved about the game? Like C&C releasing "Renegade".
I think "most" sequels are sub par, but that's maybe just me. Also, I thought Renegade was brilliant online personally. Totally different game, but brilliant.

I would but I only have mobile Internet and I am pretty certain that it would eat through 4 meg pretty fast.

I gotta ask, how was I being a sissy? It's not like I am scared to play it.
wait? if your not playing multi then why are all your complaints related to either multiplayer or skirmish?

one game, stands out above the rest in fail... Empire Earth 3... crashed allot, campain was dismal. had to modify alotta stuff to get it to even install on a 64bit OS... and even then part of it was corrupted the first 3-4 times i installed it...
graphically it was... alright... but nothing fancy... and the whole only having like 3 armies to choose from all who were practically identical... shameful.
if you haven't played it... don't, if you have I reckon you know what i mean.

This isn't a particularly new topic. I thought it was standard to hate sequels here.

I mean, I don't, not on principle. Only if they're disappointing, like Soul Calibur 3.
Such a shame, since I couldn't put II down, due to that dungeon mode. Frustrating as heck, but I could not put SCII down.

Gears of War 2. An abomination if there ever was one. A story that completely contradicted the first, and the multiplayer was a joke. Horde was fun though.
See, with Gears the story never mattered to me. Essentially it came down to (bad Marcus Fenix impression), "DOM! Go over there and shoot the SHIT out of those grubs. ANYA! JACK, rip this door!"

The story was essentially inconsequential to me, it definitely took a back seat to gameplay, which was just Gears 1 with new stuff, and the old stuff more refined. Also, I never really got into the multiplayer in the first one, and it was impossible in the second anyway. Literally.

However, I do prefer the first, as I feel the campaign was more memorable, and it definitely has a nostalgia factor for me.

I don't have anything to add to the topic though.

This is so very true.
I was bitterly disappointed!

GTA IV was also a massive let down to be honest.
Lacked all that was fun in Vice City and San Andreas.

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. (Nice gameplay, god-awful script)
Halo 2 & 3. (Not terrible, but so overhyped that they were inevitably not going to live up to expectations)
GTA4. (See Yahtzee's Saints Row 2 review and 2008 ZP-awards, he nailed it)
Tony Hawk's Underground 2. (Not sure why, but all in all rather disappointing)
Serious Sam 2. (Actually pretty good, but far more bland and samey than 1)
Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. (Shit)
Timesplitters 2. (Essentially made the GTA4 mistake of taking itself too seriously)

On the first and any other RTS I usually play the skirmish mode a few times to get s feel for the game, then I do the main campaign. So the disappointment comes in the form of skirmishes.

When I move out I can get proper Internet so maybe I will enjoy it at little more but I think I will always feel let down by the lack of building and the speed at which you can get the best units.

But it never got boring blowing massive buildings up!

The ending of Indiana Jones 4 was pretty shitty.

Friggin' addicted to sci fi CGI obsessed money grubber!

He's being a dick!

You'd have to have a crystal skull to watch THIS ending!
