Bad year in Gaming?

2008 was pretty good.

2009 will be awesome.

Its sort of the case that games are going to be hit or miss like it or not. We're never going to get a LOT of REALLY good games all released periodically throughout the year, just be happy with some good games and stop bitching about it not being a "good year" who gives a shit about a year as long as there are still good games at all.

Fair enough, I just saying that the year as a whole didn't seem as good to me as 2007.

How about the PC version of GTA IV? It's got Mods so that should give lasting appeal.

Saints Row 2 also had co-op which is nice for a game like that. I haven't played Fable 2 but people seem to say it lived up to expectations. Gears of War 2, and Resistance 2 seem to please the crowd as well, though I don't really care for either of them.

It's kinda tough thinking of games now that I'm trying to "review the year". I also like Clear Sky more than most people did but the popular opinion seems to be "not as good as original" though I disagree for the most part.

Time to meditate and think up a list.

(Oh yeah, I liked Dead Space too, nothing amazing but hey, threw it in there).

EDIT: WHen was the enhanced edition of The Witcher released? It's not a "new game" but it was one hell of an update and IMO should have honorable mention at least.

I dunno, I just can't have fun with GTA IV. I did like Gears, though. Dead Space as well.

I liked this year in gaming, MGS4 was amazing and so was valkyria chronicals. There were plenty of good games this year, I dont know why they don't shout about how good this year was.

Okay, so we reached the arbitrary number that I sent out, what does that prove? Anyway, I guess its just a matter of opinion, I found more games that really stuck out to me last year than this, so I see last year as better.

This year had LBP MGS DMC4 GTA:IV and other abbreviations I loved, im no were near disappointed with this year.

Definitely not a bad year - GTA IV, Fable 2, Dead Space, Fallout 3, etc - but 2007 wins my heart (Bioshock, Mass Effect, Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Orange Box, Halo 3, CoD 4, God of War 2, Jeanne d'Arc......)

Well, Ok, theres Brutal Legend ofcoarse (its miracle thoughs guys are still going after there last few game success), then theres MadWorld, I'm Alive looks pretty decent...

Oh fuck it, next years still going to be awesome.

By the way, is it me are there no FPSs next year. I don't know about you, but I'm tired of them.

it wasnt bad, there were enough fps's to suffice, a few creative games (little big planet, spore)... I'm dissappointed with the lack of decent strategy games (like last year had Medeival total war 2, and age of empires 3) this year didn't have many that stood out... let my rephrase that... none

Not really. I only like Brawl and Saints Row 2. Mirror's Edge, Condemned 2, Banjo Kazooie, and Ninja Gaiden 2 were alright. I have yet to play Braid and Fallout 3.

Well, there will be F.E.A.R 2, which I'm looking forward to, the first F.E.A.R was great. There's also Killzone 2, but I don't have a PS3, so that doesn't affect me. That's about it. Oh, and I am Alive does look good, I've always liked the whole post-apocalyptic thing, but I haven't seen any gameplay from it.

Can someone please explain the appeal of LBP to me? I just don't get it. Spore I sort of get, but it doesn't appeal to me either.

All the games that would have made this year the best all went to 2009

P.S. This was a good year for gamers just 2008 did not have as many must haves as 2007 or it could be that people just did not spend as much money as last year too.

Maybe you're just a jaded gamer, or maybe it is trendy to say stuff is crap. I maintain the second is a main source of all this nonsense about how games are getting worse and all that.

I thought this year was pretty decent. Not great, but it did have games like Gears of War 2, MGS4 (which I didn't really like, but enjoyed the story...kinda), Left 4 Dead, Bangai-O Spirits, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Street Fighter 2 HD Remix, Galaga Legions, Little Big Planet, Fallout 3, Geometry Wars 2, and Ninja Gaiden 2. And those are all just off the top of my head.

I thought it was a pretty good year. Left 4 Dead's demo alone wasted many hours of my life, Far Cry 2 is pretty good compared to what I have heard about it, and World at War wins just for including bayonets. I've yet to play Fallout 3 or Little Big Planet.

To repeat what everybody else in this thread has already said, it definitely wasn't a bad year. You could argue that it wasn't as good as 2007 but overall I was pleased.

Ummm....This year kicked ass: GTA 4, No more heroes, Saints row 2,MGS4,LBP, Mirrors edge, Farcry 2, fable 2, Fallout 3, Prince of Persia, Left 4 dead....This year was saturated with good games!
