So, I'm currently in the middle of crafting the most thoroughly bitchin' cinnamon rolls in existence (I know, because I made them last year, and they kicked ass). I'm in the "wait for the dough to rise" phase. They are shaping up to be my new favorite part of Christmas morning, if they wind up as good as last time.

But that's enough about me. The point of this thread is to ask the question in the title: Do you bake? How often? What is your favorite baked good, either to make or to eat?

At its core, this thread is about things that are baked, and the people who bake them. Discuss.

Edit: So, my cinnamon rolls didn't rise. Apparently, I killed the yeast. I admit, I'm not actually that good a baker. But dammit, I am not about to let a bunch of pansy-ass fungus end my quest for awesome breakfast tomorrow! I will prevail! Manly Bakers don't give up.

I made epic mince pies this evening. The pastry was made with 50% butter and 50% lard. Soft, crumbly, but still moist.

I even made some experimental 'flying saucer' mince pies, with extra styling using a fork. Also a win!

I hate baking, but I do make some delicious pumpkin bread around this time of year. It's rich and moist and so very yummy. And then I whip up some cinnamon cream cheese icing to go with it.

My subjects are usually quite pleased with my creations, if I may say so. Nothing spectacular, just an assortment of different plain cookies, cakes, and sometimes brownies, though those less often since the first thing I did when I got my own kitchen was make a batch of brownies just for myself. Kinda cured my appetite for them :D

Eh, I can do basic stuff like cupcakes, but beyond that I appear to be a hopeless case. I'm a pretty good cook, but when it comes to baking you might as well let a drunk monkey into the kitchen. :(

I don't really know what a mince pie is, but anything with that much saturated fat in it must be good.

Yes I can! I can bake up some mean motherfuckers in this *****!
See, that's the kind of enthusiasm you need if you want to bake something. You need to be willing to bake the hell out of your food.

I call this approach Manly Baking. It's all about your mindset.

When it comes to baking, I am THE domestic goddess. I'm making baklava, cookies, buckeyes, and a pie for Christmas dinner. My friends and family don't ask for gifts anymore for birthdays/Christmas/anything; they ask for bake goods.
I bake quite a bit, especially if I get stressed out.

I dabble in the arts of fine bakery occasionally, but mostly no due to cost and lack of time.

Followed up with a hearty *OM NOM NOM* as Sammy J shows 'em who's boss.

Holy. Nutbunnies. I just had an amazing idea.

A cooking show... Starring Samuel L. Jackson. Just imagine what it would do for the Food Network's ratings. It would be the most profane, and the most awesome, show they had.

The pastry is this

350g plain flour
125g unsalted butter
125g lard
pinch of salt

mix together with your fingers until it's roughly the same consistency as breadcumbs. Then use a cold knife to stir in one beaten egg, and water by the teaspoon until it's soft (but not sticky). Don't cut it up with the knife, just rotate the mix until it mixes and binds.

Wrap in cling film and store in the fridge for 20 minutes. Then you can roll it out to cut and create individual cases to fill with mincemeat (alchohol, fruit etc..).

Bake at 200c for about 30 minutes, or until nicely browned. when cooled, sprinkle icing sugar over the top and then serve with thick double cream and a really nice cup of loose leaf English breakfast tea.

mmmmmmmm!

Baking? What is baking? Teach me how to bake!

Yes, I am completely unable to make or bake anything, due to my sheltered existence and complete indifference towards attempts to create edible treats.

I do like to eat the baked goods though, if that counts, which it probably doesn't. I make up for it with wit and repartee of course.

I'm a bit of an unusual case, being a teenaged boy who loves baking, but I bake regularly, mostly of cakes of the sweet variety. From there it can go anywhere though. I bake for friends, for family and for special occasions (I really want to try and bake a wedding cake, but I'm not THAT good yet). I bake a kickass victoria sponge though, and my cupcakes look amazing.

Favorite baked good depends a lot on my mood, sometimes a good brownie with a soft centre and chunky chocolate bits is best, but overall I love a very special apple cake concoction, made of apples (duh), almonds, cinnamon and marzipan, with plenty of butter and sugar and a few other bits in between.

To sum up, baking is fun :D

Also, as a little side note, I hate ready-bake cakes, the ones where it's just a powder which you add water/milk to and it's good to go. Takes all the fun out of the baking, and I've never tasted a ready-bake cake which can stand toe-to-toe with a cake made from fresh ingredients and every part made by hand.

I dont bake. That's women's work.

Nah, I would love to know how to bake. Both my parents can, they make the most delicious stuff, and it actually looks kinda fun. I really should ask them to teach me a thing or 2, but I'm far too lazy :(
