...some shit band?

I don't get this... what's the best band that isn't a good band?
There are a lot of good bands that have never been on the charts.
Then why aren't they in the charts if they're so good?
Because the mainstream doesn't accept them.

I'll guarentee you that Necrophagist is more musically talented than, say, Metallica.
At playing maybe (though faster isn't necessarily better), but I would say not at writing songs. Or singing.

Find a Metallica solo that is musically superior to that one.

As for singing...well, it's death metal. I like Muhammed's vocals.

I'm sorry but that's the whole video, I couldn't find one of just the solo.

Alkaline Trio, Modest Mouse, or Four years strong, I don't actually know if they're not on any charts, but still, I'm getting those names out there.

Buckethead is better than Malmsteen? You must be joking.
Yes, Buckethead is better than Malmsteen. Malmsteen has all the technical ability in the world, no doubt, but nothing can compare to Soothsayer, that songs sends shivers down my spine everytime.

I'm not bashing Buckethead and I recognize that you like Soothsayer a lot. I listened to it, it was ok.

I'm just saying that Malmsteen is a better guitarist.

I know the song, and the solo.

It's not bad, but I wouldn't say "musically superior" to Advanced Corpse Tumor. However, I'm fighting a losing battle here because to many Metallica is THE BEST, no matter kind of argument I bring to the table.

I'm not saying that's the case with YOU, but usually that's what it comes down to.

I know what you mean, I personally actually like very little of Metallica's stuff, espescially their later albums but I love that song to bits. Especially the solo. Sorry man, difference of opinions.

Dream Theater... I think *shrug*
If not then probably Melvins... if not
First off, They [Dream Theater] have albums on the charts going back to 1994. They have six singles and, what you may think ironically, six hits on the Mainstream Rock Chart.

And Yes the Melvins have been on a chart.
Ah well I never follow what shit goes on in the charts :p

Well it's personal preference, Malmsteen is a wicked shredder, maybe he is better than Buckethead in that department, but Bucketheads songs hold so much more than Malmsteen's.

Fugazi - Inspired every shitty band you know and love since the late 80's. Arguably the greatest band since the Beatles.
I find it extremely hard to believe that Fugazi isn't on some chart.

I discovered that my two original choices (Minus the Bear and Of Montreal) were both on there. Q and Not U is a great choice though.

But I've got more!

Jupiter Sunrise: Approachable, original pop-rock sound, Upbeat but not cliched lyrics, all-around feel-goodery. I go in for a lot of heavy stuff, but these guys are my other-end-of-the-spectrum band.
Perfect Thyroid: Politically charged (OK, maybe a little preachy sometimes) over-the-top ska. If you like horns and jazz you'll like this.

EDIT: After glancing over this thread, you're not going to find better recommendations than those listed here as long as you have the same musical tastes as me. Guaranteed.
Hijacked and fixed for my own personal agenda.
